This might be more on the rumor side but isn't Disney making changes (and more changes to come) to make the original story of the HM more clear to people when riding the ride?

^ Yep, without going into a bunch of detail: Supposedly they're going to be making some changes to the story surrounding the bride and some upgrades to the "hitchhiking ghosts in the mirror" effect. They should be up on Friday.

To be honest, I never even noticed that HM changed. If it did, ethier it wasn't a very big change or I just don't notice things

i too love the HM i like the new changes although the bride is a bit creepy but thats what the ride needed that dark edge.after all it is a haunted mansion and not all ghost are "nice".but if all the rumors are right it is going to very interesting the next few years.and like someone else sead disneyland will never be complete.

The mansion is without a doubt my favorite ride. As well as the HMH. The changes are fine, in time they will be just as loved as the originals. I've noticed one common denominator about all great "changes": They aren't usually loved right away becasue it is different. But give the changes some time and you'll grow to love'm.

Change is never a problem with Disney. HM is more clear to Families from out of state or country, maybe even to the people who ride it everyday. The attic shows what the bride has been up-to and why she has been wearing a wedding dress. I think people were a little confused just seeing ghost heads pop up and down repeating "I do", but now everyone knows that The Bride beheaded all of her husbands. So instead of having popping heads and a bride holding a bouqet of flowers, it shows an axe in her hand and that she has murdered all the unfortunate Newlydeads

Many of the changes have they have been making are simply attempt to add more advanced technical effects to the attraction as well as a storyline (like DLP’s version). And I don’t blame them for that. Walt certainly was no stranger to upgrading his attractions. I think they’ve done a great job adding effect and remaining true to the original spirit of HM.

Now, if they ever try to add an Eddie Murphy AA, I’ll be the first to stone it. ;-)

I think the haunted mansion still hasn't lost it at all. If anything the only time is loses a little bit of its magic is during the holiday season. i love the nightmare before christmas dont get me wrong but I prefer the haunted mansion alot better. Even with the refurbishments its still a fantastic ride that I wont forget. I went on grad-nite this year and the ride is still as i remembered it even with the new changes.

R.I.P. Haunted Mansion
Thats kind of melodramatic, don't you think? lol Anyways, I'm not sure where I stand on the new addition of the attic, but its kind of cool. I guess whats running through my head is now they have this whole scene devoted to the bride and after you go past it you wonder why is she like that? Its cool, but it just didn't fit the story of the ride, imo. Its like you have the story of a man, and he's going somewhere. Then on the way there, he meets some one and he starts helping people. And the moment he starts helping these people, he's back on his pursuit towards his destination. Who knows, maybe they'll convert the story to follow the bride more over time, but just the way that it is now, I think, is just to much. But its not dead.

in all reality, the entire attic scene was devoted to the bride before the changes. the jumping ghost screamed "I do!" in mockery of a bride that would never have her groom. plus the warped wedding march being played by a shadowy pianist. now, instead of feeling pity for the sense of loss i felt that was assosiated with the bride, we now feel... wow... what a creepy broad.

I don't know why they would add one when Walt Disney said that the Haunted Mansion was NOT to have a storyline! It was about the joys in the afterlife and how not all is as it appears...

I haven't even seen any of the new effects yet, except for the floating madame leota head. Two things that I hope the imagineers will do will be to bring back the 'hatbox' ghost and give the hitchhiking ghosts better movement and animation.

One thing I have to ask though, how much do the ghosts in the graveyard move now since the new changes?

I'm asking this because I recently saw a video of Tokyo's version of the HM and all of their graveyard ghosts (especially the ghost band) move a lot and look very animated. Here's what I mean: Starts around 3:58

Another thing I noticed was that their pop-up ghosts are a lot faster as well while Disneyland's are pretty slow.
