Default POD.....no show stop?

I was at the park yesterday and POD did not have any show stops. My friend asked a CM and was told that it was too hot and they were worried some of the characters may faint from the heat. Actually it seemed like the floats were going just a bit faster than normal. This was the first time I've known about this. Any comments from any CM's?

Well I am not a CM...But it is pretty hot down in Anaheim currently. Like in the upper 80's to lower 90's but it is humid also. So it is understandable that they would worry about some of the characters fainting from the heat. Think about this.. I would rather see the Parade with no show stops and a little faster progression down the parade route then seeing Mickey or a Belle or Beast or any other character faint during the parade in front of everybody.

Yeah, they do the same for Block Party Bash down at DCA when it gets really hot, too.

We go by this Heat index thing. Usually on hot days we only have two show stops instead of three. But on uber hot days, there are no show stops. It's just not safe. Can you imagine on of the CMs falling off of one of the floats? Not good

Seems I read somewhere that the CMs like Mickey and Minnie have air-conditioned costumes....is that true?

This is just a guess, but I would think that it would have to be 10-15 degrees hotter inside the suit (Mickey,Minnie, etc.) than it is outside (maybe more). AC or not that is really hot and you wouldn't want to make prolonged stops while dancing, running, and jumping. It could become overwhelming very quickly. Kudos to those CM's that wear those costumes day in and day out.

They used to have ice packs in the suits, don't know if they still do.

They also don't do show stops if there is a threat of rain.

It's a lot more than that, actually. In Florida, people measured over 140 degrees when they brought a thermometer out in the costume. And no, there is no kind of cooling whatsoever. You drink your water and your PowerAde and tough it out.

Having no show stops sounds like a good idea to me. I'm glad that they don't make everyone have to endure the hot costumes too long. When I went earlier in July the weather was over 90 degrees and I in my t-shirt and short pants (in the shade), was about to die.

How often do they clean the character costumes? I can't even imagine how sweaty/smelly the costumes must be after someone's been in it for less than an hour...

Fortunately when there are no showstops, the parade can traverse the route in about 30 minutes. While I'm sure they're not exactly comfortable, at least they are the guys in the chicken suits waving the signs back & forth at intersections.

I'd like to put on a character costume sometime...just to get a feel for what it's really like in there.
