Exclamation pirates movie and ride

ok you know how when you first start off on the POTC ride there is that old guy and a shack...im just wondering out of curiosity is that the same shack that they go to at the end of the 2nd pirates movie? i thought it could possibly resemble that shack and also when i was younger i never really did get why there is a random shack with some old guy out in the middle of the water with no one around...so if you guys know anything about this..please feel free to share =D

It was an allusion to the ride. Not the same exact shack, but they had it in mind when filming that part. It was all based off the Bayou.

I am surprised they didn't change any of that or add Tia Dalma instead of that old man. The whole beginning is just a mood setter. Get you all relaxed for the thrills and dangers ahead. Settle them down to scare them with a drop. Heightens the senses. Besides... Your in a bayou in Louisiana. Fits to the New Orleans theme nicely.

Imagine eating a $40 entree at Blue Bayou, with a view of Tia Dalma gazing at you across the bayou, I reckon a lot of guests would ask for refunds.

Outside of the whole (hideous) menu theming to the movie, it at least still has that charm it used to.

She would probably bring your meal back to life. Could you imagine your prime rib crawling off your plate? (*Shudder*) Or maybe thousands of crabs wold crawl out of the bayou water. It would turn into Dalma's Lair. Oh boy, I'd never eat ther again.

I think they should make a whole movie trilogy about that ride.

Please try and stay on topic folks.

The last scene of the 2nd film is set in a Louisiana bayou, as is the first scene of the ride. The old man, I believe, is supposed to be the pirate Jean Laffite (of Laffite's Landing) in his elder years.

Actually, Jean Lafitte was a Frenchman who was born in a colony on Haiti. His claim to fame in US history was when he defended New Orleans during The War of 1812 in 1815. He didn't become a pirate until afterwards in which he committed slave laundering, and espionage.

*Back on topic*

With this said, I believe the man on the raft is looking over an entryway into Lafitte's Landing which is (evidently) in the city of Jean Lafitte near New Orleans. He is always there because Jean Lafitte was so much of a hero in New Orleans and Jean Lafitte that the townspeople looked beyond the fact that he was a pirate. So, they stationed people to keep watch for the US Navy who wanted to arrest Lafitte for his pirating. Kind of makes sense in a historical fashion now doesn't it?

Does he have to have an identity?

Why can't we just think of him as a man in a rocking chair with a pipe, sitting on his porch in the Bayou, playing an invisible banjo?
