Question Pirates Evacuation Question

Hey there, folks!

I was just watching my Pirates evacuation video on YouTube, and I got to wondering...

We were evacuated right by an exit in the dark tunnel. I have seen another couple of evacuation videos, and they also seem to have been evacuated from the same spot as we were.

But what happens if the boats all get stuck when you're out in the middle of the water, like over in the big battle scene with the Black Pearl (Wicked Wench)?

Also, if you're in the town scenes, do they just walk you off of the boats and into the scenery to get to an exit?

If anyone has any videos of other evacuations, it sure would be awesome to see. I was thinking it would be cool to see someone getting to walk right through the Auction scene, or the Burning City scenes...

Thanks!

^Well the water isn't too deep, and the only reason it keeps going is because the force from the water pumps is so strong that it all runs down to the end. If they shut the pumps down the water goes down to just about an inch or two. They may drain it, but I know it doesn't take too long to stop the flow. I was watching GRR and it broke down, they shut down the pumps and the water looked pretty low. They also have a reservoir for GRR its the tide pool by Pacific wharf, and i imagine that Pirates has a reservoir somewhere as well. So they can drain it quickly.

This actually has happened to me. I have it on video somewhere, but I have to upload it. I need to get that organized...

Anywho, back in Summer of '06 our boat got stuck right in between the scene changes from the battle from the Black Pearl/Wicked Wench to the well scene where the shadows are fighting on the wall. All of the boats backed up and we were the second to last boat. I think the CMs tried to fix the issue because they kept coming over the loudspeaker telling us it was technical difficulties. So, we waited.....and waited...listened to the POTC music, fighting sequences and kept getting slightly splashed from the cannon fire.

People pretended like they were going to get off the boats to walk around. We waited there for a good 30 minutes at the least. The park had already closed. There were so many boats backed up and I guess the problem was fixable at the moment. The CMs came out of a door a little ways further ahead of our boat. It looked like it was by the area where the boats would go for repair or just overnight. One of the CMs was on the intercom and said something like, "...if they had any prior knowledge..." and it sounded like they were talking about someone else (CM) who didn't do their job correctly.

The CMs were standing by the boats chatting it up with us guests while they waited to hear what to do next. The music, voices and sound effects were turned off and the lights were turned on.

I hope this part doesn't ruin it for anyone:

The sky area where you see clouds going by and the full moon against the wall after the Black Pearl/Wicked Wench scene is really well...just a wall. These guys came out with suspender/overall galoshes walking between the area where the water ends and the wall/sky meets. I was like, "whoa! he's chest high in the water!" When he was really walking BEHIND the water. These friendly guys came out to help push our boats back so that we could get out where the Davy Jones scene is.

Since all of the boats were backed up, they had to push us backwards to have us get out safely. (Everyone else was near a set) The water is knee deep and the man was really nice and pushed us backwards and helped us out. We walked out and up some stairs and saw some lockers of some CMs, walked out into NOS where a friendly cast member gave my boyfriend and I two free passes to use whenever to get a front of the line privilege on any ride at Disneyland. It was quite an experience...I should find that video!

Wow that is really really cool. That happened to my husband and i only we were on Splash Mountain. It happened right before the first little hill you go down, after the turn. All the logs backed up. I think the little gate thing that opens for you to go down the hill was jammed. The cast member came out and helped us step out of our logs and onto the side. Then we walked down the stairs and into the mountain. It was CRAZY cool! We could see little glimpses of the scenes from behind, all the way down. It was really neat.

I do warn those people taking pictures though, cause there were ppl taking pictures when we were walking down and stuff and the cast member threatened to take their cameras. Just a warning! But i do still want to see more pictures of this kind of stuff! It is very interesting to me.

Yeah, I was doing my best to keep my camera discrete because I didn't want them get on my case.

Yeah...it was many moons ago that I was evacuated from Splash Mountain. We had just finished the river boat scene at the end when the boats all jammed up. We exited backstage to pass by a big huge pile of wet hats that had been collected from the mountain. It was pretty cool getting to see the backstage area.

Thumbs down Wow!

What a great reply that was! Awesome detail, and there are some really great things that I didn't know about the ride, like the space between the wall and the water that is actually a dry walkway area below the water level.

Fantastic stuff to read, I really love it. You know, the funny thing is, that even when we know these little details about how things really work, it doesn't take away from the ride at all when it's in full, proper operation. The illusion of being in deep water, the illusion of the sky, the atmosphere still all works so well, and I love it so much.

Even knowing about how the ballroom sequence works in the Haunted Mansion doesn't take a bit away from it, it's so cool.

By the way, the ship is still called the Wicked Wench- It's never been renamed the Black Pearl. So it's not the Black Pearl/Wicked Wench, it's just the Wicked Wench :)

Thank goodness, at least they kept that part pristine! Makes me smile.

Man, I really want to be evac'ed from Pirates. Still hasn't happened yet. Someday it shall! I have been backstage by both show buildings, though. Pretty weird stuff. I'm a huge backstage buff, so it was kind of a dream come true. =P

That's exactly how I feel. To know how everything works makes the entire experience all the better for me.

I'd love to get evacuated on any ride. I'd LOVE it if I got stuck on the Haunted Mansion and they turned on all the lights...wouldn't it be cool to see that place lit up?

When I got to go to the backstage of Disneyland, behind Mickey's Toontown and all around the park's perimeter, I told my friends that I was going to keep my eyes shut the whole time because I didn't want any of the "magic" to be lost.

However as I walked around, I was ABSOLUTELY AMAZED at all I saw! I saw all of their parade floats (I was tempted to jump on board the Mad Tea PArty float) There was a huge warehouse that housed ride vehicles from past and present attractions, and that was neat as ever because some attractions I can only read about, but now here I was face to face with a peoplemover transport, skyway cabins, everything! It was astounding!

And I was at the park in mid-transition from Halloween to Christmas, and in the middle of the walkway were the castle turrets all covered in snow and ready to go! I saw the train and monorail house, and this huge industrial-type area where all the fireworks shoot from. I also saw this huge building that houses all of the CM costumes including the character ones, and I looked inside one room and all it was was about 100+ mickey mouse heads! We got to meet Jack Sparrow, the Mad Hatter, Winnie the Pooh, Mickey and Minnie, and Hook (yay!) just while standing outside that building. I saw so many things, it was just a dream come true! I'd be willing to tell more if people would like to know! Just message me.

Backstage Disney does NOT destroy the magic!

I will say though, there was a lighting goof in the Indiana Jones Adventure during the bug scene, and it's kind of lame to see it under normal lighting. I don't think it's dumb or anything, but lights on ruined that trip through.

Also, flash pictures kinda get on my nerves in the Haunted Mansion! How dare they disrupt the moldering sanctum of the spirit world??? Ha only joking, but since so much of the HM is darkness, light destroys the effect, cuz all you seen is nothing... Just walls... I much rather have the effect of an endless void, not a cornered room.
