Default Pirates 40th merchendise event

On March 18 the Disney Gallery will be having a Pirates merchandise event for the rides 40th anniversary, as well as legandary Imagineers X Atencio, Alice Davis, Blaine Gibson and others who will be signing artwork. The merchandise included will include Mary Blair type artwork of scenes in the attraction and many other things. Interestingly they will also be selling a Plush doll and Sculpted figurine of the original Captain of the Wicked Wench. I am curious why if Disney knew about and approved the original captain merchandise why did they not think about that BEFORE they changed him into Barbossa.

No doubt that The Disney Gallery will be so filled up.

Personally, I'd rather have the original Captain any day...

Thats what is so confusing about it. Why would they change the Captain into Barbossa if they knew they were going to be selling original Captain merchendise less than a year later?

I would say it's likely because one group of people organized the changing of Pirates, and a completely different group who never sees/hears the other organized this.

Disney merchandising has long offered extinct attractions to sentimental fans. I've got a HatBox Ghost Big Fig, and he was only in the Mansion for a week! I've seen PeopleMover figurines, ticket-taker trinket boxes, etc, etc.

The Captain is a part of the history of the attraction, and since this is a 40th Anniversary event, it makes more sense to honor the original Piractical inhabitants than those that have moved in within the last year.

That does make sense. Even though Pirates of the Caribbean changed, it's still not part of the history of the attraction. Well, not yet, anyways.

I have a 12" doll of the original Captain, complete with sword. I got it at Disneyland about 15 years ago.

Piractical is like the best word I've heard in quite some time. I don't know if it's actually a word, but it sounds cool anyway.
