The Mark V Purple monorail is the only one still running. Unfortunately, it's covered in Year of a Million Dreams stuff so you'd never know it was purple unitl you board it & see the purple carpeting. Also, with only one train running, there's only once chance to board at either station every 12-14 minutes. Can make for a possibly ugly situation during peak crowd times.

I have little birdies out checking for a possible opening to passengers for Mark VII Red tomorrow (Thursday). Hoping for the best.

No passengers on Mark VII Red yet but there might be tonight...

OC Register: Monorail Red will open tonight

Disney Spokeswoman Betsy Sanchez said this afternoon that the new monorail train will be open on and off again throughout the weekend.

The Mark VII line of trains (three in all) will slowly replace the current monorail trains. The red monorail is the first to roll-out and the blue train arrived a few weeks ago. No word yet on when the orange train will arrive at the park.

Now before you spew that soda you're drinking all over your computer (if you have already, sorry), OC Register's simply reporting on what the plan is/was sometime in the past. As we all know, plans are only good until their time comes and a determination is made if the plan can go forward or not. This soft opening might happen, and it might not. It's a 'game-time decision' to coin a sports phrase.

Stay tuned to see if it did happen or not, and if you've got nothing much to do, go check it out! You just might be among the first to ride the new Mark VII Monorail Red!

EDIT: Word is Mark VII Red is running with guests NOW! (7/3/08 6:53pm)

I just got back from the Disneyland Resort and got to ride the new monorail for a "Special Sneak Preview" :D
it was soo great , there were NO lines for the monorail at all , and in side the monorail there was a ton of empty space when i rode :D , it was really smooth, and it was daytime with the sun out when i rode it so when we went through the Grand Californian Hotel where it goes through shade the monorail light up nice and blue it was soo cool :D

I had reported earlier that the monorail had not been accepting passengers today. however during second parade pod I noticed there WERE passengers on red.. so the monorail has opened.

So for these "sneak previews" were the windows all left modified for the air circulation? If so what did they leave and was it hot in the cars? Did anybody get to ride the nose?

You probably noticed the new scoops that have been installed in order to improve airflow & circulation. If they've done their job, that's very good news!

Good to know there's still some little birdies out there that give credible information on stuff!
