Great commercial! Showing the kids swiming with Marlan is cool.

Although, having the castle under there is... ah... wierd.

I just downloaded the DLR podcast, they did an interveiw with one of the imagineers and this is what he said. The reason it took so long for the subs to return is they wanted to theme the ride after a movie. (bc thats disney's trend at the moment) They first wanted to theme it after the Atlantis movie. They built a model, and the management liked it, but the movie wasn't liked by the public, so they scratched that. Most people know they were going to do that. The second chance was through Treasure planet. Now the idea was to have a joystick at each porthole, that controlled a small crane on the outside of the sub. Along the ride was "Treasure" that guests could pick up once they got to "Treasure Planet" and then it put the treasure in a basket. At the end of the ride Some device that they'd have to make would count the treasure and give you a voucher for a gift or something in the gift shop. But its like an arcade, you have to get a ton of tickets to get something thats at least worth a dollar lol. The management liked it, movie comes out, and nobody likes it again! So then finding nemo comes out, its popular, so they make a test scene. That was the dry tube that they put in the lagoon before it was drained. Since they needed to ask for the money they had crush come out and say, Hey Disney dudes, get your pens out and start writing in your check books! And of course they did, thus the reason the subs are re-themed to finding nemo.

I have a bad feeling this ride is going to have huge 2-3 hour line ups when I go in late July. Hopefully FP is installed right from the bat.

^ The anti-FP'ers win this round. No FastPass is planned for the Nemo Subs.

NO FP? Well I guess thats ok. Cause it would delay the standby a lot more. But still... it stinks IMHO without FP...and I would have to rush to it every morning...

I'm actually happy about no fast pass because people brag when they get a fastpass. Like I was standing in line for Space, right about to go in, and I swear, every different group that walked past me in the FP line bragged! Whatever though, maybe just my luck.

Well, I mean, they have been waiting a lot longer than the stand-by'ers have to ride. They just haven't been stuck waiting in line, and now they'll ride without being stuck in line. I'd be happy about that too, that's why I go FP or no ride at all usually.

As for the FP delaying stand-by a lot, that's a common misconception that isn't true. As I explained in another thread, FP'ers aren't just people cutting in line making other people wait for them. People with FP tickets are folks who would have been waiting in line usually a few hours prior to when they redeem their tickets, which means the ones who were in line when the FP'ers got their tickets had to wait for one less person. It's an equation that balances itself out.

Now, the ones in the 'stand-by' line accept the reality that they're going to ride, but give the priority to the people with FastPass tickets because they've been waiting a lot longer. If you're going to make the comparison, think about if those people were already in line before you came into the stand-by line and think if you're waiting longer than you would have in that case, or just not moving as fast. Don't confuse lack of motion for longer time spent waiting. Often times the nature of the stand-by queue requires stand-by'ers to actually stand (not walking, not moving) by because of the FP'ers. However, the total time spent is usually the same or marginally longer than it would be if no one was able to get FastPass tickets.

In the case of the Subs, if there was a FP system, the queues would probably act a lot like Autopia's queues do. The stand-by would be doing a significant amount of standing, but wouldn't take too terribly long, maybe 10 minutes longer than if there was no FP. Again, lack of motion does not mean you're waiting any longer than slowly walking a much longer route.

The whole stand-by frustration is really more psychological than anything, because you see the FP'ers whiz by literally right next to you, so it's like sitting in traffic watching another lane move while yours does not. Meanwhile your delay when actually measured is quite marginal & very much not a reason to take away the opportunity to get FP tickets away from those who want to get a ticket, go do something(s) else for a few hours, and come back and not wait.
