you are correct, but the only tribute to Its a Small World is a Hyena laughing.

Personally I don't mind the song, but I don't like the "ice skating music" arrangements. I think if the whole thing were re-recorded in a different style it would be a real improvement without messing much with "a classic". And the music from different lands could sound a little more authentic and less "hollywood"... Maybe just give the song, tempo and key to real musicians from those countries... that'd be good.

P.S. - Believe it or not, the ride is only 7 minutes long... it just feels like 20!

By the way, according to Riderefurb.com, It's a Small World was closed today to reinstall the holiday version. It should be back in November.

Small World isn't really a must ride for me, but I do enjoy the melody. I like hearing different versions of it (Club 33, DDR Disney's Rave, etc.).

Love the attraction, love the song. Another great piece from the Sherman Brothers.

Most people would agree with 111702 "Don't get me wrong, I LOVE the ride itself, LOVE IT! I just don't like the music." If you took this poll anywhere outside of any group of Disney fans, it would be a surprise if an absolute 100% didn't select, "Get me off this ride."

To be honest, I'm actually surprised that even here at VF 61.54% admited to loving the music. I agree completely with Pinocchio85 "I don't understand what the big deal about the repetition of the song. In the current soundtrack most of it is instrumental and fits the musical theme of the countries."

The arrangement is the thing, not just with Small World, but with other Disneyland songs as well. Buddy Baker's Grim Grinning Ghosts is a clever song, but done a bit differently it could have been harder to take than any cover of Small World. Tiki Room is a catchy tune, and I love hearing all the complex harmonies and animal calls they worked into it. But it could have been really torturous if they if they hadn't arranged it the way they did. Try to imagine a singer you don't like going "In the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room. In the tiki tiki tiki tiki tiki room."

But I feel Pinocchio85 makes an important point. The song pounds away so hard because it has to survive so many different arrangements yet still seem like the same tune.

Take Grim Grimming Ghosts for example. It faces the same challenge. It gets played real slowly and minimally in the foyer, it actually gets played backwards in the graveyard, not to mention what gets done to it in the ball room, yet it must still be the same song. Same thing with small world, it gets sung in how many languages (does anyone know?) and it gets played only with drums at one point, it's done underwater in another room. I think that's why they picked Jingle Bells for the Christmas overlay, it's a song that hard to not recognize.

Again, 61.54% is real high compared to what it could have been. And I haven't even voted yet. But JLDickerson raises a point that affects my feelings about the Small World song, it's by the same guys that did Mary Poppins. I would have liked the song anyway, but it's a Disney classic and with good reason. That doesn't obligate anyone to like it of course. Remember, the Shermans were real prolific. According to http://legends.disney.go.com/legends...ichard+Sherman
they wrote over 200 (yikes!) songs. And according to http://www.answers.com/topic/sherman-brothers they also did "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, which won the Sherman Brothers another Oscar for Best Song." They also did Snoopy, Come Home, Tom Sawyer and Charlotte's Web. They wrote a tremendous amount of music, so it's not all going to be popular. But for what it's worth, Scar didn't like the song either.

Unhappy Wanaful ah Wanaful!

I don't mind the song, it's a pleasant catchy little tune, but I don't like the arrangements. It all sounds like The Laurence Welk Show. When the attraction was being designed Buddy Baker was too busy arranging music for Carousel of Progess, so Disney hired Bobby Hammack who was best known for working on The Lawrence Welk Show. So cornball.

^ So the current score sounds more like what's on the current 50th album, than what was on the 2001 Disneyland album? The 2001 CD version was a classy orchestrated version, while the 50th album version sounds very 60's.

You know what's weird, I'm not crazy about the song in English but I love it in French (from DLP) and I'm not sure why.
