Default Grad Nite Alumni

My 2 year old is up sick so i'm trying to stay awake. Saw the current Grad Nite thread.

So here's a topic: Back in the day Disney would book the latest acts for Grad Nite. Who played at yours?

I actually didn't go to mine. I graduated in 1989...I remember one of the acts was Roger & Zapp. My wife graduated in 1993...hers were like Shai and Hi-Five.

By the time my brother graduated in 94 or 95 they started to book only local bands. He got lucky his favorite OC band had been booked. They were this SKA band called NO DOUBT. My parents were chaperones. They said that was cool too.

I don't remember who performed at mine because I wasn't there to stand and watch music, I was there to PLAY!

Red face We had it all!

At my GradNite (1982) we had
Bertie Higgins
We had it all!
Just like Bogie and Bacall!
Starring in our own late, late show.
Sailing away to Key Largo.

Here's lookin' at you kid!
Missing all the things we did.
We can find it once again, I know,
Just like they did in Key Largo
Laugh if you wanna... he was a big star that year.

That was my last visit to Disneyland until my return in August 2006 *sigh*

WOW!!! That's a good one. Was just thinking about that song too. My best friends older brother would always sing it around the house for some reason.

If anybody wants to laugh about 80's music they should Wikipedia 83. One of the greatest years in music history across the board. I kid you not children.

Haha, I actually don't mind 80's music, for the most part. :D
I went to Grad Nite in 2004, but I had no idea whom was playing, sorry. Tomorrowland was getting way too rowdy; when somebody kicks over a trashcan you know its bad news. Hope it wasn't Push, btw.

But yeah, I don't think it was anybody too famous playing that night. Of course I'm basing this off of nothing, so I could wind up being totally wrong.

There weren't any headline acts at my Grad-Nite. Just a bunch of local DJs and radio stations spinning their stuff...and people dancing...but not really...because the Disneyland Anti-dance patrol would come and stop it...

Even though my friends and I agreed to just hit the rides (although some of them didn't keep their promise!) when we were walking through the park, there were no live bands, just a bunch of DJ's and seemingly random people with microphones trying to pump up the crowd. If I remember correctly, on the hub and on Main Street, they were playing the latest music hits and what is currently popular, Tomorrowland had techno and rave music the back of Fantasyland (between Matterhorn and Small World) had a bunch of oldies and 80's music, Frontierland actually had two dance floors: the first one was in the festival arena and had country music along with square dancing, and the other one was in the Big Thunder/Rancho del Zocalo area had latin dance music. Over in Adventureland, they had a bunch of hip hop, in New Orleans they had a mix of swing and light jazz, and in Critter Country they had REALLY slow dance music. My favorite area was in New Orleans because I'm a novice swing dancer. When my buddies decided to go on Splash Mountain I stayed off because a) I didn't want to get wet, b) it was pretty cold, and c) I didn't want to get wet When I was sitting in the area waiting for them I almost fell asleep because of all the slow music

^^^Wow, you're lucky! lol

We only had 4 dance areas--pop and current hits in the Hub, techno/rave in Tomorrowland Terrace, Hip-Hop 'n stuff over in the festival arena, and latin dance music in the Rancho del Zocalo area. The place was a total mess by 7am, but I had a friend who went to DL the next day (9am) and he said you couldn't find any evidence a massive party took place the night before!

That is sooo freaking awesome. I wonder if there is an actual archive someplace with a list of the performers throught the years.

I don't remember what bands played at mine. Didn't really pay attention, I like some others was more focused on rides n such and not the music.

I went in 1985. 2 bands that I remember: X, an LA punk band, and The Blasters, an LA Rockabilly band were both performing that night. Unfortunately for me, the were both playing at the same time -- and I loved BOTH bands. I saw X, and they were Awesome!

Thats exactly how mine went too in 2002. It was a blast! I didnt really dance at all, my friends and I were to busy riding rides and running amuck! But it was such a good time...Im so happy they do that because grad night is one of those memories that I think everyone will always remember!
