Default Faster Splash Mountain...?

Has anyone noticed recently that Splash Mountain seemed just a bit faster? Not the drop per se, but the flume inside the mountain: the water seemed to be moving the boat noticable faster than before. Am I crazy.

I can see the Disneyland people trying to do this to speed up the line at Splash which is notoriously one of the slowest.

It feels the same as its felt for the last few years. Before that I couldn't tell ya. And yes, you're right in thinking a quicker trip through the show means more riders per hour. Splash doesn't seem quicker, but compare Haunted Mansion today to Haunted Mansion 10 years ago. These days we seriously scream through that thing!

I'm not sure if it moves faster on purpose. There are days when the water level seems higher than others and days when there's a slightly bigger current. Not sure if they control that on purpose but I suppose anything's possible.

It feels to me like it runs faster ever since the big refurb around early 2002. It could be just faulty memory playing tricks on me, though.

Disney has hired little gnomes who are under the water pushing the back of the boats now. If you are fast enough you can turn around and just see the tips of their hats before they hide again.

Maybe they have control of the flow of the water on Splash Mountain. I would think that when there is more water and it flows faster that the ride would go quicker but I could be wrong. Just on some days when a lot of people are at the park Splash Mountain's line doesn't seem to be extremely long for the amount of people in the park and then when there is no one in the park the line may be the same as when there is more people in the park and you would think that the line would be shorter. Just a thought.

I think it would be nice if it went a little slower. You kind of rush through all of the show scenes. It's still a great ride though.

Agreed. I would like to look at some of the show scenes longer than 10 seconds. It does seem a little faster though. I wanna stay on Splash Mountain 4 ever. Or maybe i'm just really tired. ^_^'

That's one of the benefits of a log backup . It's odd.. on pirates the backups annoy me(well probably because you're usually stuck in a completely dark cave or in the dark busted up ship area for most of it). But on splash I like them if it means the ride's longer.

It does seem faster to me and the company I was in agreed. You also get wet in different places. I especially noticed this after they changed the logs, but perhaps I didn't pay close enough attention to the speed before. As mentioned earlier, I remember being on the HM as a kid and it went REAL slow compared to now. You were on that ride for a lot longer than now. There seemed to be longer breaks in the HM speil as well.

a cm told me that if a log is heavy then it will go faster and it will make a bigger splash. i noticed i got wet a lot more than i have been getting on the ride in the past. they also added more water then before and it made the ride go faster and much more better.

going on wdw's splash was very refreshing[baddum] because i could really sense how fast disneyland's has been going. I had a lot more time to look around at things in wdw. plus they still had their water cannon on every few logs that drop down(disneyland's has been disabled), and you could get really wet still with some frequency. really wet. i really have no argument against anyone who says theirs is leaps and bounds better than ours right now. i'd have to agree.

Keep in mind, CMs do have a lot of control over the logs. Just ask any guest who has been naughty during the ride. CMs will stop it dead until the guest cleans up their act. I only notice it going faster on days when there is a big crowd. One time last spring the water level was really high (all the kids on my log got pretty soaked) - so high we were all commenting on it. But I didn't notice it going faster (oh yeah, that was also the visit where the log in front of us was stopped due to naughtiness.)

Not sure where you got this from but in my experience the water cannon's just hit & miss. I've ridden it in the past 2 months both when it's working and when it's not. It was on for a while back in May-June, I remember. I would regularly get nailed right after the coast in front of the main drop. It added to the wetness a little bit. I'm not sure how a little more wetness can lead you to call one Splash Mtn. leaps & bounds better than another.
