I just returned from a trip to DLP. :P
GO SPACEMOUNTAIN!! Anyways...thats off topic... I just wanted to post my ideas about fantasyland. Disneyland is kindof annoying me. Fantasyland seems like its for small kids...you've seen it...its all full of five year olds. If its for five year olds....WHY DO THEY MAKE THOSE RIDES SO LOUD, OVERWHEMMING AND SCARY!? The part with the trees in Snow White....those trees are a little too close. Pinocchio is very overwhemming, and while a good ride...is freaky... If I took a four year old there the only rides I would recommed letting them ride is Storybook Land, Small World, Carousel, Peterpan, Teacups, and POTC. Tom Sawyer Island, Buzz Lightyear Astro Blasters, Innoventions, etc. are all very good, so I guess DL has the little ones covered...but I feel bad for kids who ride Rodger Rabbit, Snow White, Pinochoo, etc... What are you guys thoughts... |

most kids love those rides. I was never frightened to ride any of them as a child. the only one that might scare parents is that snow whites scary adventure (which by the way is not scary). and as for the volume It's not loud, I can hardly hear it. The only ride I would say might scare kids is the haunted mansion, the reason is that the guide makes kids believe that they are trapped inside the elevator ( I have, although it is rare, seen kids actually too scared to get out of the elevator and having to leave the ride)

I was not scared of them when I was a kid. Oddly enough the only ride I was scared of was Space Mountain. LOL. I really have no idea why.
I really don't think the dark rides are all that scary. Even for a kid. Besides, they have already seen the movies which have just as much scare factor in them. |

First of all, the rides aren't meant strictly for 5 year olds, or any other particular age group. Walt's philosophy was that he just wanted the both the parents and the children to have fun together.
In today's era of everything being targeted to one marketing demographic or another, it's difficult to imagine this being the case, but it is. Not all rides, even Fantasyland ones, are made strictly for the smaller kids or larger kids or even just kids period. That being said, all kids have their own tolerance level as well. I remember being really freaked out by loud noises until I was a teenager. As a parent, just be aware of your child's preferences/limitations, and work with them. -- PMM ![]()

I am 45 years old and I never road the Fantasyland rides until i was in my 20's. I wish I would have been brave enough as a child to ride them. But I sure love them now. I feel like a kid when I ride them over and over again. The child never leaves us it just gets repressed by age. It's still there, you just have to know how to let it out once in a while to remember that we are are all still young. Any time you feel life getting you down, just go to the park and for me it all fades away as soon as you get to the parking lot. A least for me it does. Have a great Disney day everyone.

This is going to sound like another lecture so just skip it if you want; I won't be hurt.
Everbody is afraid of something different. I've always had a fear of falling, so the scariest attraction for me wasTom Sawyer's Island. I learned to stay out of Injun Joe's cave because I was afraid I'd fall into the crevasse. I would wait until the suspension bridge was empty and there was nobody behind me, then bravely venture out. EVERY time some obnoxious teenager would run up the exit stair, jump on and swing the darn thing on me. I tried it again this year and the same thing happened and I got the same sick stomach over it. Anyway, my point is, there's no way to predict exactly what is going to frighten someone. As Matt points out, Walt wanted parents and children to ride TOGETHER, which means the rides can't be boring, which means some people (young and old alike) are going to find something to make them uncomfortable. We just have to find our comfort zone at Disneyland as everywhere else. I actually got to thinking about this the last couple of times I was at DL. I went to the Tiki Room both times. The first time there was a man with his little girl (about 3). Because it was dim in the room, she was afraid. Dad promised her she would like the singing birds, but if she ever got scared she could leave. She did enjoy the singing birds, but when the tikis started to drum she got scared so he took her out the exit. The next time there was a father with a little boy (same age) who was also frightened. Dad assured him he would like the singing birds, but there was no promise to leave if he got scared. Tikis started to drum and the little boy hid his face in his dad's shirt. By the thunder and rain, the kid was looking around, grinning at the rain. As we exited the kid was all smiles and rattling on and on about what he'd seen. I got to wondering, how many of us learn that it's ok to be afraid of something but sometimes, if you stick it out, it's worth it, at Disneyland? I'm pretty sure I did (other than our annual trips to Disneyland, I had a boring childhood, thank goodness.) |

^^ well said. and uh it is a Mouse....not rat
Now it is kinda off topic but once i was going to ride haunted mansion by myself bc everyone else was tired and did not want to go. so as i walked into the foyer, i came across a small boy in his mother's arms crying because he was scared. so being the nice person i am, i walked up to him and said it is ok it is make beleive. the boy gave a little smile but still was scared. i told the mom that the room goes down in the dark and gets kind of loud. she thanked me. and i patted the little boy on the back and said stuff like it is ok. the little boy took hold of my finger and i stood next to them as we went down. i warned the mother and child when the loud part was coming. she held him as he hid and he only cryed a little. i told him how brave he was and he clapped with a smile. i walked with them a little and i told the mother that during the christmas season the decorate the mansion. it becomes a lot brighter and a bit happier, then the boy told his mom and said mommy can we come then? and the mother smiled and said of course! I felt really good after that. i did see them when the ride was over i did see him again and his mom. the little boy asked me, ids there reall a ghost going to follow me?!! and i smiled and said no, remember it is make beleive. and he smiled and said Oh yea! hae gave me a little hug and we went our ways. The story just shows any child can handle scary, they just need a little encouragement and reassuring and they will pull thorugh. Glad you had fun!

Yeah. Those rides scared me when I was younger. There's this part in Pinnochio, during the Pleasure Island scene, where there's this like HUGE CRACK that comes out of nowhere! It still makes me jump and it's kind of stressful waiting for it.
Fun. ![]() |

And to add my two cents, I am STILL scared of Mr. Toad's Wild Ride. Well, actually, I went on it one time (when I was 19, okay, so that was like, LAST YEAR) and I've been traumatized for life. |
