Lightbulb Disneyland Scale Models

Coming Soon HO 1/87 scale models of Disneyland.

I am currently working on a licensing project with Disney Consumer Products. We have nearly cleared all the hurdles and there has been alot. Our proposed new product is HO fine scale models of Disneyland buiildings and attractions. When I say fine, I mean they will be highly detailed and not toys. These models will be geared towards the model railroader and Disney fan. Some of the cool features about these models will be that they will be operational. The rides will operate and be motor driven. again these are models so they will come in lots of pieces that you will put together,

What I need is some imput on what our first release will be. These will hit stores in about 9 months.

So I thought what better place than a Disney Fan site to ask what models would you like to see. Being a huge Disney fan myself I wanted all the E tickets. However, think about this from a few steps back which models would have the most interest to model railroaders, Disney fans and park guests.

We approached Disney with our ideas which are.
Sleeping Beauty Castle
Main Street Station
Left side of Main Street as one model
Right side of Main Street as one model
Mad Tea Party

What do you think of those picks? They are not set in stone except the castle and train station, which will be produced.

What would you choose if it was up to you?

Is this a product that you would buy?

Thanks in advance for your input. It really will be read and considered.

If you have any specific questions, please feel free to ask.
Thanks,

Xsubcaptian

I'll buy all that I can afford! What a fabulous idea! I know they put out the E.P. Ripley as an N scale. Are they considering (or do they already have) an HO scale Disney train?

The castle is a must for my first pick, then I'd do the Tea Party. I voted for Dumbo in the poll.

I would see this as a great retirement project for me!

Lemme just say that this is a brilliant idea and I would buy everyone of the scale models until I build an entire replica of all of Disneyland.

As a first release I think it would only be appropriate to recreate mainstreet station including the ticket booths and city hall, the firestation and the bank. This is first thing we see during our visit to Disneyland and therefore should be the first model to be released. Then the models of main street should be released since this is what we must pass to enter any of the lands.

I voted for the skyway since that was one of the coolest attractions that we'll never get to see again. But I'd buy it all, no matter what.

I believe that you should build the entire park. I think that there is a want for this type of project. I think that it should be affordable but not cheesy. I know that model railroading is an art and a hobby, but also a passion for some. I would love to have as many pieces as possible just to have on display, for my own pleasure of course.

It would be great if the designs were vintage Disney also. Maybe give some choices.

OMGoodness! I would LOVE to see this stuff available. I purchased the Walt Disney World HO Train last year and only use it around my Christmas Tree, but if these buildings were available to build my own Disneyland...AWESOME!

What I REALLY wish they'd release is an HO scale DISNEYLAND train!

What are you looking at retail cost wise? If it's too much, then simple folk like me (I'm an elementary school teacher) wouldn't be able to afford it.

I agree that eventually releasing all the lands to make your own park would be amazing. I think that for your first release, it should either be Main Street Station (since it is the first thing you see), or Sleepy Beauty Castle, since it is what most people think of when they think of Disneyland.

I would definitely make it my mission to collect these. Hopefully they would be affordable on tight budgets (I'm a student, and when I "grow up" I am going to be a teacher, so I'll be in Timmy's boat!), and I'm sure you would have many people purchasing these. I think it would be cool to have all of the lands, then begin incorporating rides from Yesterland - PeopleMover, Skyway, Rocket Rods, CircleVision, Carosel of Progress (and that's just Tomorrowland!) and any others you could think of. This would give people the ability to build a time specific Disneyland, or the Disneyland they wish existed, or just collect their favorites. Having these attraction models be fully operational would be absolutely amazing - what Disney fan wouldn't love that?!

Definitely keep us updated on this, and let us know when these come on the market and where we can purchase them!!!

This would truly be an amazing gift to Disney fandom. I've been tinkering with various products out there, primarily the Monorail playsets, but I've got the HO Disney World train Station, both Haunted Mansions (the WDW looks very little like the one in the park), the Sears Town Square playset, and paper models available on the net.

Here's my current layout:

I've been tinkering with the idea of adding Small World but hesitate to develop the model myself. I just love the facade so much!

So I have some questions....
Ride vehicles included. You're obviously not going to recreate the entire ride and show building in miniature, so what are the plans to incorporate vehicles or ride interiors when the actual ride extends beyond the facade?

Please be as close to the park original as possible. The WDW Haunted Mansion Monorail Playset is not the same color or shape as the one in the park, and a free paper model available on the net is a much more faithful reproduction.

How big is the planned layout? I realize HO scale, but are you doing the entire park or just major buildings? The Olszewski models are wonderfully detailed, but the layout takes an entire large room! And they're much smaller than HO scale. And FAR too expensive.

I love Disneyland and am glad to see attention being paid to the park. But to be fair, since there are differences between DLR buildings and WDW buildings, are there plans to market another set for the Magic Kingdom?

Castles: I would truly love to see DLP's Sleeping Beauty castle modelled at some point. I think its one of the most beautiful.

Other attractions/Old attractions: You mentioned the Skyway, what about the PeopleMover or the Moonliner? How about attractions from DCA like Tower of Terror?

LOVE THE PLAN and am looking forward to purchasing the models. I couldn't choose, so I voted for all of them!

Scale Models sound fun.

I've already bought every other sculpture from Disneyland that i've wanted, like the numerous Haunted Mansions.

Of course, my Olszewski is my favourite. Its just so darn cute.

I've always wondered why they, or at least Disneyworld/Tokyo, haven't
made a sculpture of their version of the mansion exterior.

It'd be cool. I'd buy it.

I've got that dodgy "monorail" WDW Haunted Mansion, but thats not the same as a cool sculpture.

But yeh by all means bring out every one on your list as Scale Models
and i'll buy them after i've made room somewhere to put them.

I voted for the HM exterior. The building is so beautiful and detailed...just as a work of design, it is exquisite!

I love the idea of adding vintage attractions!

In the meantime...have you considered Space Mountain, The Matterhorn, or the Disney Playhouse featuring Great moments with Mr. Lincoln?

Default Thanks for the input

I really appreciate your input and enthusiasm for this idea. I really needed to hear that as this has been a very long process to get to this point. Let me answer a couple of the questions.

The prices of the models will be from around $20 up to I'm guessing $200. With the vast majority around the $40 to $60 range. This is the range that this manufacturer currently sells in.

I am not sure we will make every square inch of Dsineyland but all of the major icons will for sure be made. We have talked about Space Mountain and it will have the track included, not just a building.

So again thanks for the input and I will keep you updated.

I do currently sell a workting skyway if anyone would be interested in that, jsut send me a note and I will give you more details.

Thanks again.
