Default Did Disneyland close on Holidays a while back?

I was talking with my supervisor today, who is from out west (we live in VA), and because I am planning to visit DL next year, I figured I'd ask him if he had ever been there. He moaned, and said no. But one time when he was about 6 or 7 his parents took him to Disneyland on July 4. They made the drive all the way from Arizona and when they got there it was closed. He said as a 6 year old he was devestated.

Nowadays Disneyland NEVER closes for a day, unless it is for some huge parkwide project (like for the 50th birthday party), they are even open on Christmas. So, I was wondering, did Disneyland used to close on all the holidays, or could he have had bad timing, like the park reached capacity or they were closed for a big project. This just seemed outregous to me. I know it was a while back and times have changed, but July 4th is one of the biggest days in the theme park industry, I could understand them being closed for Christmas or even New Years... but a day in the middle of summer when everyone has a day off from work and would like some family fun? Seems like the only jobs that get fourth of july off anymore is the government. Even the bank is open LOL!

But seriously, I know this is before the internet had all park operating hours a couple clicks away, but the fact that they made the long drive there obviously meant that they felt it would be normal for that place to be open that day.

All I can say is:

Cool dark days

I know they weren't originally open 7 days a week, but I thought they were always open on holidays, weather it fell on dark days or not.

Holidays or no holidays, they'd never close on July 4th. They've always been very prominent in trying to attract positive attention as an American tradition/classic/patriot/enthusiast yadda yadda. The 4th of July at Disneyland has always been a big thing so there's no way whatsoever it was closed. It's frequently their busiest day of the year(with new years being their biggest competition for biggest night of the year).

Disneyland would certainly NEVER be closed on July 4th. That's smack dab in the middle of SUMMER, the BUSIEST season! I think your supervisor was lying to you!

I think they were closed. But the reason why they were closed was cause of too many people. Remember they do close the gates and tell everyone disneyland is closed when too many people are inside the park. And because your supervisor was so young he probably didnt understand that at the time. Just my 2 cents

Yeah, that's definitely a possibility. But just not being open, is not.

in the summer time this happens frequently. I know as I have been rejected frequently LOL and since disneyland hasnt grown by any significant amount I would assume that the crowd limits were the same then.

I worked several shifts on days when the park gates closed when the park reached "capacity". Holy Moly that's a lot of people standing in line to take a picture with an orange dog!

I remember when DL was closed on Mondays and Tuesdays during the off season. We used to travel there on Tuesdays so we could get to the park on Wednesday mornings.
