Question The Autopia

Mods/Admins: please move if necessary.

Okay, so I was thinking about the Autopia yesterday while in the park and was wondering. What after the Chevron contract? The end of the contract is nearing for Disney and Chevron sponsoring of Autopia. What do you think will happen? Will they just refurb it back to just simple autopia? Will they go with the rumored envrionmentally friendly electric cars? Will they axe it due to the new Radiator Springs Racers coming up in a few years (gosh I sure hope not it's a Disney classic) and put a new attraction? seriously?! Any rumors or any ideas or thoughts on what might happen to good ole' Autopia?

Well... If they Re-imagine That i could suggest:

-Enviromental Cars: The Future Needs Clean Energy

- Re-Design Of The Cars: Maybe Something like... Using Whites-Silvers and Blacks... They could look cool

- Re-theme of The Track: Let's make the "Magic Highways Of Tomorrow"

And i think that would make autopia come back to it's glory after Chevron leaves

Yes, perhaps, ford, or honda will sign on for clean energy cars. I think every major company has a prototype of some sort of hydrogen car. It can't be cars, because cars has its own land.

I HATE Autopia! Honestly, do we even need to push the idea of cars in general at Disneyland? It's so ordinary and drags you back into reality a bit seeing those silly "cars". In 1955 maybe they were cute (the idea that a kid could drive was probably fun back then) but I find them smelly, loud, obnoxious even and waiting for that ride in like a being in a Las Vegas nightmare (sponsered by a greedy corporate giant no less)...honestly, I love everything about Disneyland and I am one of those people that believe in all things original to the park...but I would throw that one out the window in a second, it is not futuristic, it does not represent Disneyland favorably and it is barely tolerable as a ride...bring on something worthy and more fitting to the land it is in..and don't anybody start wining because there was more than one car ride a Disneland ages ago...and they got rid of those too... :) Bye Bye Autopia!

I say axe it. It takes up a lot of land, and IMO there's nothing very classic about it at all, besides the fact that it opened with the park. That alone isn't enough of a reason to keep it around in my eyes due to the whole "Disneyland is not a museum" thing. Maybe they can make a similar ride over at "Carsland" (PLEASE let that be a working title!)

I can ride the same exact ride at the Great America across the street, and I actually like that version better.

Alex, I love those ideas! Actually, it'd be nice to see all three - re-designed, evironmentally friendly cars on a newly themed track!

Autopia has never been my favorite ride, so if it were axed, I wouldn't be too sad (my mom, on the other hand, is a completely different story). It would be nice if they could either re-furb the ride so that it fits in better with the whole theme of Tomorrowland, or get rid of it altogether.

It's most likely that Honda could be the new sponsor, since they're also sponsoring Fantasmic! for more than a decade.

Sincerely, a brother of a half-demon,

I like the ideas too Alex but I think that all the car companies should get together and make different types of clean energy cars for the ride. All the companies can chip in sponsorship. I think it would be neat to see different cars by other companies for it. I hate how the cars now have really high backs. I loved them up to the change it is now.

Now as for axing the ride and making a new attraction on that land like Masquerade suggested. The problem there is is that almost all of the land sits on top of the FNSV show building. To make something new on there would require the closure of that ride as well. Depending on the type of attraction to replace it, would or could require the full draining of the lagoon and then the show building itself structurally retro-fitted to be able to handle whatever load they would or could be placing on there. So now you would have 2 attractions closed for the sake of 1 new attraction.

I am not a huge fan of Autopia but I don't see Disney replacing the attraction. It is still hugely popular, popular enough to warrant having FastPass. I think Alex's ideas are very good. New modern vehicles and a re-themeing to a "Magic Highway of Tomorrow" would likely make the attraction even more popular and insure sponsorship for years to come.

I would be totally intrigued to see what the Imagineers could come up with in the way of re-themeing the attaction to a futuristic landscape/cityscape with quiet electric vehicles crusing through. Autopia has so much untapped potential for showing the future of personal transportation.

I love Chevron as the sponser because I love seeing the three commercials in the queue area but whoever the sponser is, I won't mind it. I would love for them to revamp the cars a bit and put a better steering wheel/pedal because the wheel hurts my hands and the pedal hurts since I'm tall and have to keep my foot at a certain angle.

The cars will have to be changed, because the contract is up, they can't use chevron stuff.

I hope it doesn't go away. Kids absolutly LOVE the idea of getting to drive. The difference between this and the one in Carsland is that you get to "drive" these. Your actions affect the car. My son LOVES to do this ride, and I have to say, some of the best laughs I've gotten is watching him drive his 6'5" grandfather around in one of those tiny cars!
I think they should make them hover haha. That would be futuristic!
