I prefer our Space Mountain! It is so much better than the one in the Magic Kingdom, FL. Why? Because it was enhanced a lot and the boarding station looks way better and the track switches for the new rockets to come. The music is cool, it is darker and you can't see the track. The wind and the speed makes the ride even faster!

Arrow totally re-designed

It was totally re-designed for Disneyland. There's a series of really good articles by imagineers on the develpement of both at Mouse Planet: World View
Start with 7/06/05 WDW's Space Mountain and work up from there.

The DL version of Space was always better than the WDW version, IMO. That was probably the attraction I was most disappointed with at WDW. The track layout is way more exciting at Disneyland, with or without music.

I did like the longer indoor queue at WDW, especially in the Summer. But I agree that the loading area is much cooler at Disneyland. The loading area at WDW looks up into the same projected "sky" as the roller coaster looks at. I never understood why I was standing under the stars in space without any sort of cover. If I were actually in space, I'd be dead. The whole Space Port loading area at Disneyland makes a lot more sense.

I nicknamed WDW's SM "Space Matterhorn" & with good reason. Their Space Mtn. is basically our Matterhorn with a roof on it. Advantage: DLR.

our space mountain is much better - wdw space mountain is just matterhorn with the lights out. ours has better effects and the music completely changes the ride. (and i like our seating arrangements better too)

i have been on both space mountains and they are good so its hard to pick just one. ours has one track while wdw has 2 tracks and a area where you can exit. without going to the front of the line.

Disneyland's is so much better. WDW's is too bright, bumpy and jerky. It needs a major overhaul.

The rides are basically two different rides with the same name. The Florida Mountain was created basically because it lacked a Matterhorn, that is why they used a similar track layout.

The one in Anaheim had to be different because they already have a Matterhorn and to use the same track layout as Florida's wouldn't make much sense. I do have to say though, I do like the Florida exterior better than Disneyland's Space Mountain exterior, I haven't ridden the Florida one so I cannot say which one I like better.

I'll say DL's because of the awsome overhaul it recently got, while I did like the old soundtrack better the effects are awsome.
WDW, well I heard a really good description of it recently "Matterhorn in a box"

the one in DL. the one here is like sooo stuck in the 70's and it dissapointed me because i thought it would be better...it didnt even have music...and it was lame.

and the seats are like the matterhorn too.

The articles I linked to in the previous post talked about concept changes. The WDW one just implied being launched into space, where the Disneyland one was designed to suggest being launched into superspace through a wormhole to another galaxy.
