Virtual Magic Kingdom closure brings out fans

Orange County Register
The May 21 closure of Virtual Magic Kingdom, a Disney online social gaming site, is continuing to draw passion from its fans along with an online response from the site’s producer. The free site (also called VMK) was designed as an online promotion for Disneyland’s 50th anniversary.

There is a site dedicated to preserving VMK, SaveVMKToday.com

I would be more interested in the game if they actually made some of the rides, etc. look like the originals. Its not very "Disney" to me, atleast.

I went, I played, I left. You have to know a lot of other ppl on there otherwise it's next to worthless. And they're not going to open it, they'll have you go to Pirates, or the fairy one, or whatever. They made bigger, better versions of these for a reason, and keeping this around would hurt those systems.

I didn't play this game for even a day. It was uninteresting and there was better language restriction on ToonTown (referring to the term "shut up")

the language restriction on VMK was half the reason I left. You couldn't say anything, it seemed, and you couldn't meet anyone if you couldn't say anything real. VF is a better netowrking tool than VMK, if for no other reason than we all don't have to be on at one to have a conversation.

Like it's been said before, it was really cool to begin with, but it got old. I was surprised Disney wasn't stopping the "Taken" thing, I wouldn't think they want kids to pretend to be in relationships. The "Mummy" (mom) thing got really annoying too. I hated when they said they were crying, because a blob of pixels controlled by someone they never met who is there "mom" wasn't there.

They didn't allow you to use numbers, yet everyone figured out a way around it. on, too, tree, for, etc. Why not let us use numbers?

Exactly! I like it for the fact that ,for all its faults,it seems like yoiu're in one of the parks, and it's an alternative to all the violent content of toontown and pirates.Referring to the having to kill something.I would like to keep the game up and running, and I have a feeling that they'll find a way to do so,as long as fans keep pushing for it.

I have to disagree. I don't think it seems like you're in one of the parks at all. The rides/park look and feel NOTHING like the originals.

While that's true, for people who don't live close to Disneyland, such as I,it will be the closet thing to the park.

I never really got into VMK. I got bored because things were too easy and the fact that you have a bunch of ramdom 12 year-olds looking for relationships the second you log on. Always seemed like a waste of time to me. I'd much rather have the Disneyland website and Disney Shopping sites running better. Sometimes they are really slow or redirect funny. But thats me. :D
