If you have a VIP guide, you're getting front of the line access anyway. I remember when Paige Davis (of "Trading Spaces" on Discovery Channel) was interviewed by Wayne Brady when he had his show and was saying how neat it was to visit WDW since she now qualified for a guide where she DIDN'T qualify when she was on Broadway in "Beauty And The Beast"... and now that she's just a Discovery Channel "star" she got one. (don't get me wrong, I LOVE Paige Davis).

These passes are for anyone where standing in line might be a disruption, but don't need the WDW guide... thus saving WDW money... if not a headache down at City Hall.

I mean, what other kind of VIP would there be that is important enough to qualify for the VIP fastpass, but not a Disney Escort? Maybe an author who's face isn't terribly recognizable (but even someone like Stephen King would be recognizable to many)...

I wonder who you have to argue with to justify the "VIP" status? What's the cut-off? I mean, does anyone care (or more importantly, would they KNOW?) that it's Senator Mike Enzi of R-Wyoming standing in line next to them??? I wonder how many Floridians would even recognize their own Senator, Bill Nelson???

No wonder hardly any castmembers have seen these special passes. Either you're important and recognizable enough to get the Disney Guide, or you're not.

(and thanks to Google for the help in Senator's Names)

...I actually saw Stephen King at the Studios about 5 years ago and he didn't have a guide that I saw. :P (He was next to me in line at the turkey leg cart on Sunset Blvd)

Frankly, I could care less if you are a famous politician. You should wait like everyone else. I have very little compassion for you if you feel you are superior and therefore deserve a special pass that alows you to by pass all of us low-life "normal" people. I don't care if it is the president of the US, he can wait in line or stay at home. If security is such a problem then pick less unsecure places to visit. But if Disney feels compelled to cater to these people then perhaps they can visit the park at night when the crowds of dangerous normies (AKA normal people) are gone.

I have told the story that my family was in line for Astro Jets. After about a 30 min. wait, they were in the front of the line, for the next group. When the ride stopped, up walks Whoopi Goldberg and an entourage of peeps. They all got to go load unto the ride. As Whoopi just stood there and watched them and she was literally yelling at people around to stop looking at her. I mean she was YELLING. No one was approaching her, just 'looking' at her and some snapping a few pictures.

See, if you don't want this kind of attention, you get a VIP guide so they can prevent these sort of things. So it's one more person that Disney has to pay that could be doing something else. Have the VIP pay for them!

Ignoring the ethics of government officials reporting the gift of special FPs ...

Not having a guide who can shuttle you around backstage (if necessary) still exposes the "VIP" FP holders to the public in between attractions. Perhaps those with just the special FPs are merely SIPs (sort-of important people).

If the big D wanted to be real snarky, they could provide guides + Club 33 visits to those celebs working for Disney (stars of Disney movies, employed on ABC, ESPN, etc.) and the special FPs + vouchers for churros to non-Disney folk.

Just a few days ago I saw Kelsey Grammar (Fraiser) and family + company escorted by CM in a rather impressive uniform through Screamin's exit queue and straight onto the ride. The CM seemed to be falling head over heels in providing he & his party with direct access onto the ride.

*sigh*

Would you rather we have to deal with these stars, their posse, and their collective egos while they're forced to wait in line with the rest of us? Negative, sir.
The non-Disney/Disney VIP thing is funny, though. And they wouldn't do that because they'd force any major Disney stars to promote the parks while they're there. And the minor ones would probably still get conned/coerced into a park promotion.

Actually, I don't think we would have to endure them - rather the opposite. Think about it from a celeb's perspective: how exposed to the public would you want to be? Would you go to the park if you knew you'd be surrounded by fans all day long? Might you consider paying extra to avoid the exposure?

Just because you decide to visit/vacation at the company property doesn't necessarily mean you would be required to do promotions. Unless you want to write off the trip as a business expense...

Realistically, Disney uses this perk system for political gains both legal and social.

Well, it's a relatively simple way to do it, so why wouldn't they?

And I suppose doing one promotion to write off a weekend or week-long trip wouldn't be so terrible.
