Default Pixar's 'UP' 3D

Pixar's 'UP'

'UP' Enters The Third Dimension

Upcoming Pixar
Pixar’s 2009 release, UP, directed by Pete Docter, is going to be a 3D animated film. In addition to this, ComingSoon.net, reporting from ShoWest, said that Disney have announced that the film will also be exhibited in 3-D. It seems it will go hand-in-hand with the three Toy Story releases over 2009-2010, that will also be in 3-D.

However, Peter Sciretta from /Film, does make a very good point. Is Disney having a negative influence on Pixar? continue reading

I hope their tickets aren't $15 bucks too, or else it won't really be worth it.

^^ The only Disney Digital movie that's been that expensive so far was the Hannah Montana one. They said it was "Like you're at a concert, so it's a good deal". I saw Meet the Robinson's and The Nightmare Before Christmas in 3-D, and they were both like 10 dollars.

Default Cinematical Previews Pixar's 'Up'

Cinematical Previews Pixar's 'Up'

Cinematical Previews Pixar's 'Up'

Cinematical
Note: This post will contain minor story and character spoilers for the movie Up, so read at your own risk.
Yesterday, Cinematical was lucky enough to be among a few selected press outlets who were invited to preview 45 minutes of the new Pixar film, Up, followed by a Q&A with Up director Pete Docter (Monsters Inc.) and producer Jonas Rivera. Up is only the second Pixar film (behind The Incredibles) to feature humans as the main characters, although as the flick moves along it becomes more of an ensemble with dogs and giant birds and God knows what else (remember, we only watched 45 minutes).

Ed Asner absolutely shines as the grumpy old voice of Carl Fredricksen, a 78-year-old balloon salesman who's always craved a little adventure, but life just got in the way... continue reading

Please do not have the horrible 3D glasses. I saw Bolt in Real-3D (or Real-D) and that gave me such a headache during the movie.

I'm sure there will be theaters that wont present it in 3-D.

Default Wall St. down on 'Up'

Wall St. down on 'Up'

Pixar’s Art Leaves Profit Watchers Edgy

Up, to be released in May, appears likely to be a critical hit. But Wall Street and toy retailers are not as enthusiastic.

New York Times
Pixar Animation Studios has never released a movie that was not a commercial and creative triumph, and its 10th feature, Up, is looking to be no exception — at least artistically. To the extreme irritation of the Walt Disney Company, however, two important business camps — Wall Street and toy retailers — are notably down on Up.

Richard Greenfield of Pali Research downgraded Disney shares to sell last month, citing a poor outlook for Up as a reason. “We doubt younger boys will be that excited by the main character,” he wrote, adding a complaint about the lack of a female lead.

Retailers, meanwhile, see slim merchandising possibilities for Up. Target and Wal-Mart say they will stock little Up merchandise, mainly because there was not much interest from manufacturers: Thinkway Toys, which has churned out thousands of Pixar-related products since 1995’s Toy Story, will not produce a single item. Disney Stores will offer Up-related products, but even that will be on a limited basis, according to analysts.

Disney sees the worry as unfair and tiresome given Pixar’s track record. Robert A. Iger, Disney’s chief executive, responded, “We seek to make great films first. If a great film gives birth to a franchise, we are the first company to leverage such success. A check-the-boxes approach to creativity is more likely to result in blandness and failure.”

Arrow Success is only about selling toys? Really?

This New York Times piece has already gotten an avalanch of criticism on the internet. Spout.com's Christopher Campbell has a nice collection of responses here:

Pixar’s Up Doesn’t Exist to Sell Toys

Incase you missed the cartoon comparing Pixar to Dreamworks Animation, it's here:

Default 'UP' rated PG

'UP' rated PG

PG rating for 'UP'

The Pixar Blog
According to a press material just released by Disney on their publicity website, UP will carry a PG rating from the Motion Picture Association of America (MPAA).

UP is only the second Pixar film (after The Incredibles) to receive the "more mature" PG rating.

Not at all surprised here. You?

Default UP takes "top dog prize" at Cannes

UP takes "top dog prize" at Cannes

3D mutt scoops top dog prize

News 24
A dog called Dug and a pack of "wild but wonderful hounds" in Disney-Pixar's 3D cartoon caper UP scooped the top screen canine prize at Cannes, the Palm Dog's organiser said. "UP was a favourite from the word go as it featured loveable Dug and a pack of wild but wonderful hounds with comically malfunctioning human voice collars," said journalist Toby Rose.

The 3D dogs beat off stiff competion from a black poodle sitting at the table with Nazis in Quentin Tarantino's Inglourious Basterds, said Rose.

UP screened out of competition at the Cannes film festival as its opening film.
