Default Parking lot at DLR strawberry field

Parking lot planned for DLR strawberry field

Disney parking lot set for third theme park site

Orange County Register
Disney plans to build a massive parking lot on the field that it originally bought for a possible third Anaheim theme park. That means that a new park likely would be at least six to 10 years away when the lot is no longer needed.

Disney wants to add 2,570 new parking spots for guests to the Harbor Boulevard site, eating up the majority of the remaining open space on a former strawberry field that the company bought about 11 years ago in anticipation of building a third theme park.

The new parking lot plan is set to go before the Anaheim Planning Commission at 2:30 p.m. Monday at City Hall. City officials are recommending that the plan be approved, said Sheri Vander Dussen, the city’s planning director.

“The presence of a temporary parking lot at this location in no way enhances or discounts the potential of future investment at this location,” said Suzi Brown, a Disneyland Resort spokeswoman. “We’ll grow business when and where it makes sense to do so. But our focus at this time is on the expansion of Disney’s California Adventure.”

Makes me wonder why they didn't build the park ages ago. However, at least they're not building it now because it'll mean another rise in ticket prices. Still, why a parking space?

Sincerely, a brother of a half-demon,

Me, too. I actually took pictures of these strawberry fields when we were down there last year. I knew it was a matter of time before they were gone and I wanted to document they were actually there. I still have wonderful memories of walking by the strawberry fields on West Street at night--the ones that used to be by The Disneyland Hotel--and smelling that wonderful warm strawberry smell. Memories =)

It is very said that they messed up when they built DCA the first time or maybe this would be hello to a new park instead. Oh well at least Disney is fully recognizing that they own the lot instead of just letting it sit there. All i can hope is that they make the lot very visually appealing and that it doesn't look like some over grown parking lot that just sits there.

A "former strawberry field",huh?

Wasn't Disneyland built on what used to be an orange grove?

{I'm not implying anything,just making an observation}

Yes, it was. I wonder what used to be standing in the area that is now all of Disneyland Resort.

Yeah, the parking spaces I'd definitely needed, because on sunday, it took me about two hours to park in the Pongo parking lot. They weren't expecting such a huge amount of guests, and by the time I got to the bus to take me to the Esplenade, the lot was almost packed, and the cars kept on coming.
