Default Ollie Johnston dies

Animator and Disney Legend Ollie Johnston dies

Remembering Ollie Johnston (1912 - 2008)

Jim Hill Media
" ... and then there were none."

For over three decades now, animation fans have been quietly counting down. As first John Lounsbury, and then Les Clark slipped away. Followed by Woolie Reitherman, Milt Kahl and Eric Larsen. Then Marc Davis, Ward Kimball and Frank Thomas. And today word came out of Sequim, WA. that Ollie Johnston — the last of Walt's Nine Old Men — had passed away.

Jim Hill asks you to remember this remarkable individual. Who passed away in Washington State earlier today.

*GASP*

Aw, that's too bad...

That's so sad...

To be honest, though, I figured it was inevitable. Still, it's so sad. Rest in peace, Ollie.

His spirit will live on with the rest of the great animators in all the classic cartoons they made. It truly is the end of an era. Slowly the people that met and or worked with Walt or even for him are slowly slipping away from this planet. May Ollie rest in peace and may his family be content knowing this man made such a change to the industry we know today.

Nine Old Men...all gone.
*sigh*
Sad day indeed. I always get emotional at the end of The Incredibles with the two old men talking about "old school." Now I'll get doubly emotional.

Gotta watch Frank & Ollie tonight.

Rest in peace, Ollie. Your legacy will live on in the smiles of children's faces.

May the Nine Old Men rest in peace, and may it not be a sign of what's to come...

Arrow tributes are poring in

There's a nice piece by ryan Ball at Animation Magazine:

Disney Legend Ollie Johnson (1912-2008)

Jerry Beck has been updating his piece at Cartoon Brew, adding lists of tribute links, and even a couple of videos:

He will be missed. He will be remembered and appreciated for his more than just significant contribution to the world and the company.

Very sad news indeed. But what a reunion there must be in Heaven right now...
