Default New cruise ship ceremony

New cruise ship ceremony

Disney Dream's keel-laying ceremony today in Germany

Orlando Sentinel
In a ceremony in Papenburg, Germany, earlier today, Disney Cruise Line Captain Tom Forberg (with an assist from Donald Duck) places a commemorative DCL coin under the keel of the Disney Dream, the company's cruise ship under construction there. The keel-laying ceremony marks when the first block of the ship is lowered into the building dock. The coin goes under the keel for good luck.
The Dream is scheduled to debut in 2011.

I think Captain Tom was the Captain of the Disney Wonder when I went on it in 2002!

**Correction...my wife tells me that OUR Captain Tom was from Sweden.

There's two being built now. When the second one is finished, there will be four.

Are the two going to operate the same line as the current two ships, or will they run in California as rumor has it?

^ That is what I was just wondering too. Would be nice if they did that. maybe even have one for California and another for the Pacific North West.

They could easily use the new ships in Florida, but I honestly don't think there is that much demand for it.

They had a Cruise depart from California, and go down to mexico, and I think it filled up fast. Perhaps it was an experiment to see how popular it could be.

Cool Up from the Archives...

I just looked through our news archive, and what I find is that:
  • The two new ships (Dream and Fantasy) are are scheduled to arrive in Port Canaveral in 2011 and 2012.
  • Disney Cruise Lines has an agreement with Port of Los Angeles begining in 2011.
  • Wonder will be repositioned to the west coast.

If The DCL fleet had an "admiral" it would be Captain Tom. He has been on board with Disney the longest out of the other captains. Regarding the move of the Wonder over here to the west coast...I heard that they may have 1 of each sized boat. But I guess its more of the fact that we will know when we see it

If it's coming to the west coast, I can't wait to see what kind of Port they make!! Port Canaveral is beautiful, it'll be hard to outdue it.
