Julianne Moore in new Liebovitz Dream Portrait

Moore is mermaid in Disney portrait

The Press Association
The Hours actress Julianne Moore will appear as a princess from The Little Mermaid in a new image released by Disney. The 47-year-old red-head poses as Ariel, complete with her mermaid's tail, in an undersea world amid wavy coral as US Olympic swimmer Michael Phelps swims past.

The image is the latest in a series of portraits by celebrity photographer Annie Leibovitz for Disney's Year Of A Million Dreams celebration. The new image, part of the extended Year Of A Million Dreams celebration at Disney Parks, will be featured in the June issue of Vanity Fair magazine.

Wow... these are better than the last ones! Now if only I could download them... The Cinderella one still kicks major arse, but these are amazing. Score!

I love these portraits! I really wish I could purchase them to get them matted and framed. They're beautiful!

Awesome Pic! It's better than the last wave of them (Aladdin, Genie, Peter and Pocahontas)

I think it looks great. Annie has an awesome camera eye.Glad to see that the celebs enjoyed their time on the photo shoot as well. That really helps make a great photo.

I love these photos, even if I don't know who half these celebrities are (I only known Julianne Moore because she was in Jurassic Park 2 ^_^).

They're actually pretty close to the kind of things I would love to be doing myself if I went back in time and decided to go to art school instead of university... They're right in the same vein as the fantasy photography of the Victorian Era, where women would be dressed up as mermaids and comets. I love it!

Plus, I like the take on interpreting the Disney characters.Somehow, it always comes out looking not quite right at the parks when you've got human beings in their colourful, cartoony outfits. The worst is Aurora (in my opinion, since she's also my favorite princess), whose dress REALLY looks like a theme park costume rather than something a princess would actually wear. The "hyper-realism" of these photos which are still reocgnizable as Disney characters, but treated as if the characters were from a big-budget live-action fantasy films like Lord of the Rings, Harry Potter or Narnia, works quite nicely.

I love Julian as Ariel! So fantastic.... I agree with everyone- much better than the last set... I did love Tina as Tinkerbell- as you can see from my profile pic... I look forward to seeing the rest that will go along with the latest YOAMD photos

Cool Dream Portaits are difficult to find

All I know is that they are intended for ad layouts in Condé Nast magazines, like Vanity Fair, etc. I have yet to find posters offered anywhere, and I've searched for art dealers who carry prints (as in originals) by Annie Liebovitz but haven't turned up any Dream Portraits.

One word: NETFLIX. Julianne Moore is amazing and her choice of roles are all in excellent taste. If you liked her in the Jurassic Park movies... well, for her, thats a career low point. (!) That and Hanibal (but it wasn't her fault! She was excellent!).

She looks wonderful as The Little Mermaid. The crescent-moon-shaped smiling eyes suit Ariel perfectly.

Snow White is still my favorite. There is obviously a lot of work that goes into these pictures and I respect that. I actually like them pretty well but I do not like the fact that some of them are intentionally made to look nothing like the actual characters. I think an old man Peter Pan is really creepy. Woopie as the Genie was beyond bizzare, and J-Lo as Jasmine was one of those "***?" moments.

When the actors are meant to look like the characters (ie. Cinderella, Snow White, or the 40 year old Ariel) I really like how it brings the character to life. But Beyonce as Alice, Whoopie as Genie, or J-Lo as Jasmine makes the pictures seem more like silly, intentionally ironic visual gags.

I think Beyonce as Alice and Whoopi as the Genie were just statements on diversity.

If you wanted to find the "perfect" character for all the famous Disney characters, they'd all be caucasian (with a few exceptions)

Anyway, I was hoping Kate Walsh (from Grey's Anatomy) would've done Ariel, but I'm just glad Lindsay Lohan didn't get the part!! :P

I agree with you there about Mikhail, J-Lo and Woopie, but I really liked Beyonce as Alice. She looked like those classic illustrations in Lewis Caroll's books.

I didn't like the King Arthur one either. It had no relation to Disney's film at all.
