Default Hotel union protests D23 conference

Hotel union protests D23 conference

Union protests Disney conference in Anaheim

Orange County Register
Up to 100 workers representing the three Disneyland hotels gathered outside the Anaheim Convention Center today with full audio set and a stage – the loudest part of the protest was underway as Disney CEO Bob Iger was addressing a crowd of Disney fans inside.

Members of Unite Here 11, the hotels’ union, were chanting, “Si, se puede” or “Yes, we can” and listening to speakers in the 15th protest action against Disney in the 19-month contract dispute. According to Anaheim police, an estimated 75 to 100 workers were on scene.

So.. they were protesting the conference? Do they understand that this conference is going to make the hotels a ton of money!?

Yes, Austen, and that's money that these workers don't get any part of. They want higher wages and big conferences like this are exactly why: they know the hotels are making money.

I saw them handing out flyers right outside the security check of the esplanade yesterday. Wasnt sure what it was all about, but I saw the flyer had something to do with the hotel workers. Poor guys in the hotel really seem to have had it tought the last year or so.

NINETEEN MONTH CONTRACT DISPUTE
I think they have every right to protest wherever they will be seen (and embarrass Disney) the most.

You know, it must be a pretty weak union to let them work for 19 months without a contract. That is a shame, these people work very hard and deserve to be paid better. My heart goes out to them.

I was thinking the same thing. I work for a very large school district and though I don't always agree with our union, there is no way they would have us go that long without a contract. I can't comment on their exact issues regarding pay, but someone needs to step up to the plate.

The hotel workers really need to pipe down already. Some of their protests have been very awkward and upsetting to a lot of people, including other fellow CM's.

Space, they're fellow Disney employees who've been jipped at every possible turn, they deserve to get better conditions, and if I'd been working without a contract for a year and a half, I wouldn't be against disrupting a convention to get the news of this out there!

I'll concede the chanting in Spanish wasn't the brightest idea, though.
