Michael Eisner gets a Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame

Ex-Disney exec Eisner gets Hollywood Walk of Fame star

Associated Press
Mickey and Minnie Mouse were on hand Friday when Michael Eisner got a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. Kudos from Disney came in the form of the iconic Mickey and Minnie, and an appearance by Disneyland's band.

Eisner gained fame in Hollywood as president of Paramount Pictures and then CEO of The Walt Disney Co.

If his star is outside of the El Capitan, it doesn't count. It bordered on the comical how all of the stars along that block are Disney characters, people or Disneyland itself, and you just know that they were basically bought by Disney to go along with their theatre. It sort of takes the shine off of the stars to think that they were just bought and not necessarily reflective of a genuine sense of them being significant.

I just don't understand why he got a star at all. I thought they were given for excellence in either television, movies or music.

In my opinion Michael Eisner DOES deserve one. Let's not forget that in 1984 when he took over the Disney Company was about to be chopped up and sold off in different pieces. WITHOUT Michael Eisner, there probably wouldn't be a Disney Company today!

You may not have liked his final years of service, but he indeed saved the Walt Disney Company!

Here here Tim! It is about time that Eisner gets acknowledgment for what he did do right. A few years at the end that wasn't very good doesn't erase all the great things he did for the company. If you like Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Lion King, thank Michael!

Let's also thank him for Building Disneyland Paris, not building WESCOT, Disney's America, and well, for building Disney's California Adventure!

Well, Michael Eisner does deserve the star for what he has done for us. Think of the new parks he has created, giving us the MGM Studios, Animal Kingdom, DCA, and Disney Studios in Paris. The latter two aren't exactly very well-recieved but if he didn't bring DCA, there would be no Soarin' or California Screamin'.

Now if they gave Cynthia Harris a star, I'd be really be angry. >:-(

You can't really blame him for not building Disney's America. Many historians complained about building it and he really had no choice.

^^ Why did historians complain about Disney's America?

The site was an acutally historical site, an important battleground I think. The complaint was that something real would be torn up so Disney could put in something artificial.

As to Disney's America -
Historians also had several concerns that Disney wouldn't keep true to historical fact. The film Pocahontas' many inaccuracies were used as an example of Disney improving a story by changing the facts. Several attractions designed for Disney's America ended up morphing their way into DCA.

... but back to Eisner. Eisner accomplished a lot, both good and bad, but keep in mind that stars are not really awards but rather are publicity points (they are paid for by the celebrity's publicists, fans, or other related private interests).

I may not agree with some of the things Eisner has done, but he does derseve the star for keeping the company together (just ignore my signature right now).
