Default DLR refuses MTV cameras

Disneyland Resort refuses MTV cameras

Disney denies filming of $150,000 quinceañera by MTV

Orange County Register
A La Palma woman says she’s angry with Disneyland for refusing to allow MTV tr3s cameras to tape in the Disneyland Hotel this June her daughter’s $150,000 quinceañera, a coming-of-age party celebrating a girl’s 15th birthday.

MTV tr3s caters to a Latin-American audience and airs a show called Quiero Mis Quince, a cousin to the MTV show My Super Sweet Sixteen. Both use the same premise — they chronicle wildly elaborate coming-of-age parties thrown by the families of teenage girls.

Disney officials say that the issue is clear-cut — the mother, Marilin Vargas, 46, signed a contract a year ago without mentioning any taping for broadcast. It was only about a month ago that Vargas approached the company to see about the taping.

“We are committed to ensuring a wonderful celebration for Chelsea and her family,” said Disney spokeswoman Suzi Brown. “However, we retain the right to approve all filming for broadcast at Disneyland Resort, and we feel this type of show is not the right fit for Disney Parks.”

MTV declined comment for this story.

I am so tired of reality TV that I could scream. $150,000 is more than I make in 5 years so I think it is simply nauseating that they are going to spend that on a party. Looks like the sagging economy hasn't hit this family.

“Who is Disney to say, ‘No,’ because we’re paying them,” Kreuger said. “I really want Disney to see the stress they caused. All my life I wanted to have a big quince, and (MTVtr3s) has the big shows and all the drama, and I wanted that too.
Who is Disney to say no? It's not like they own the place. Also, I can't imagine the stress which would result from not getting my $150,000 party on MTV. I hope that Kreuger remains brave in the face of this terrible crisis. No one should have to suffer like this.

Love the sarcasm Wedbliss! Hehehehe.

Maybe they should have chosen the Beverly Hills Hotel instead! Besides, there are plenty of big hotels with large ballrooms and such that would love to accommodate a $150,000 party and more than likely would allow for the "stressless" encounters for filming on MTV in that area. LOL.
Now it seems to me they could have planned this out a little better, considering it is a $150,000 party and all. They might have known then that Disney wasn't going to allow for filming before they set it up and then asked a month before if it was ok. Hmmmmm...

Three cheers for Disney!

Quote:
Some may ask whether $150,000 is too much to spend on a 15 year old’s birthday party.

“I’ve saved money for ten years,” said Vargas, who owns a medical-supply company. “It’s a very important part of growing up. I didn’t charge anything to my credit card; I didn’t go bankrupt. I planned this.”
Someone spending $150k on a birthday for me really would help me feel more grown up at 15/16, just spoiled. But then if someone could do that for me, I'd probably be spoiled to begin with so I wouldn't care or I'd expect it.

It makes me wonder how a 15 year old in the same situation would feel if a $150k fund was set up to feed an entire town in a third world country for a year and they were given plane tickets to visit. Would they grow more from that?

I guess we all have our own priorities.

Seen on a sign yesterday: "The best thing to spend on your children is time."
