Default Redwood City stop cancelled

Redwood City stop cancelled

Disney train event in Redwood City cancelled

San Jose Mercury News
A special Disney train on a national tour to promote the upcoming holiday movie "Disney's A Christmas Carol" will not stop in Redwood City next weekend as planned.

The train was set to appear at the port of Redwood City, its only Bay Area stop on the 40-city tour, but track construction near the port forced the event's cancellation. Union Pacific Railroad is doing major maintenance on the tracks near the port and would not give Disney clearance to pass through, spokesman Malcolm Smith said.

"This unfortunate set of circumstances is a great disappointment and beyond the control of both Redwood City and Disney Studios," Smith wrote in an e-mail.

Families that are still interested in seeing the four-car vintage train — which boasts a 3D theater showing a sneak peek of the movie, props from the film, artifacts from the Charles Dickens Museum of London and other attractions — will have to head across the Bay to the port of Oakland. The relocated event will take place June 26 through 28 at Middle Harbor Shoreline Park, 2777 Middle Harbor Road in Oakland.

I got to attend the promotion in Williams, Arizona and it was a very nice exibit. It had a number of flat screens which showed the making of the movie and it also had a number of character maquetes and environment models which was my favorite part. The 3D preview was also terrific and it showed off the movie and Disney 3D very well.

I waited in line for 3 hours just to get onto the train in LA. It was really fun. Loved the smell of the Christmas goods in the last car.

Very nice update Ezra! Thanks. I wish I could have seen the train myself. Looks like it was a great presentation.

NOOOOOOO, I live like 20 minutes away from Portland Union Station, yet I had no clue that the event was being held there until AFTER the fact. I so would have been there, had I known. I guess I should stay more up to date on VF news in the near future.
