yes, but it makes money for them...so in other words, they'll keep doing it foreva

also, some are actually good. i think that Disney (with the success of Bambi 2) has realized that they have the capability of making these STV movies pretty good, at least aesthetically. so I hope that they will take a bit more time in making these sequels.

Anyways my top 10 are:

-Aladdin
-The Little Mermaid
-The Aristocats
-Bambi
-Dumbo
-Beauty and the Beast
-The Lion King
-Lilo and Stitch
-Cinderella
-101 Dalmatians

I don't think I could pick just one. I love them all. But if I were going to pick one it would have to be Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, it is the one that stared it all...

Alice in Wonderland is my favorite, but they are (almost) all excellent.

Oooo, I love Alice. The colors are so wonderful and the music is great.

A note on the sequels. Walt didn't like the idea of sequels, from what I understand. I know they are going to do them, but my feeling is this, if it isn't good enough for the theater, then it should not be released. If the quality is there, i.e. Lion King 1 1/2 and Bambi II, then great. But I have a hard time with a long period of time in between the movie and sequel. The voices are different as well as the artistry.

Just my own thoughts...

Lion King hands down. That movie was such an epic. I think its a shame they didn't make some kind of ride out of it for DL.

Not so with Bambi II, my friend. Yes, the voices are different (there's nothing you can do about that), but the artists really strived to have the same look to the film as its predecessor. I mean, the artists digitally used the SAME backgrounds as the ones in Bambi, and I mean the EXACT SAME ONES. that's pretty cool! in fact, the scene in Bambi II where Flower is seen hibernatin' uses the same leaves and stuff in Flower's den as were used in Bambi when you see him at the exact same spot. Pretty cool!

Now, yes, the animation is much clearer and the snow effects and such are much better due to digital processes, but i think it enchances the film all the more. That film is one of the most beautiful of all, right up there with Aladdin and The Lion King. I mean that snow in the opening scene...tell me that it doesn't look almost 3D!!! Geez, I love that movie!!! lol

but i know what you mean with other sequels. Return of Jafar was not as aesthetically stunning as Aladdin, just cheap animation. But i think with the success of Bambi II, Disney is gonna strive to match the animation in the sequels as closely as possibly with their predecessors (except in the case of like Aristocats which used crap animation...a digitalized sequel will look much better). So fear not!

I do think the artwork on Bambi II was beautiful. They really seemed to study the original artwork. I also think Lion King 1 1/2 was so funny.

I think the soundtrack to Hunchback is absolutely haunting. It is one of my favorites.

My favorites are The Jungle Book, Aladdin, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules,Pochahantas, and Bambi. I'm not areally big fan of the sequels though (although having not seen Bambi II, I cannot judge it.)
