Default What kind of dog is Pluto?

What kind of dog is Pluto supposed to be, exactly? I know he has always been considered a mutt, but there's got to be more than just that.

I'm assuming not a chihuahua.

Maybe part beagle?

Well, that's a different question.

He's some sort of hound. Some sort of bright yellow, slightly humanized, hound.

But he's not a purebred, he's a mutt. Most mutts are not purebreds. I know, my mom explained this to me while watching part of a dog show on Animal Planet last night.

A lot of your answers are pretty close to the truth....maybe this will help clear it up as Pluto and I have always been "pretty close"!

Pluto's first appearance in a Disney cartoon was actually as MINNIE'S dog and he was very similar to a Bloodhound. However as he developed some colored hues he did indeed resemble a Lab (however...an Orange Lab, rather than a Yellow Lab).

His breed could be listed as Canineius Bigtongueus Cartoonius.

How's that?

You know, maybe now he is a cross between a laborador and a bloodhound.

I think he has certain features of lots of different dogs. If he's a mutt, then lots of people can say he's just like their dog....if he was a lab or a golden, then only those people could say "I have the same dog as Mickey". I think he's meant to be his own bread :) However! The dog in the Haunted Mansion....thicken him up in the middle a little and add a yellow hue and he looks a LOT like Pluto.

Trivia: In the movie "Cars", the tow truck introduces himself as "Mater, like Ta-Mater without the Ta". However, in French, the joke did not translate so he introduced himself as "Martin, like Aston Martin without the Aston"

And make his ears black, too.

Good point. But as a dog expert, even I can't determine his breed.
