Hey guys! I just got back from the Comic-Con today, and I've lost count of how many famous people I've saw and/or met. But I think among one of my favorite encounters today was that I had the awesome pleasure to sit up and see Pete Docter himself!
All I gotta say, is it was an amazing experience, and about 10-15 minutes of the actual film from Up was shown at his presentation. All I gotta say with that 10-15 minutes of movie playtime is, Up looks absolutely amazing! It looks like it will be another tremendous hit, and I absolutely love the film already. The presentation also showed some of the scout character Russel, and he was absolutely hilarious. The scout is basically this short, fat, little chubby kid, covered in scout badges and memorabilia - and the sequence that featured him and Carl in the forest was hilarious as he appeared to be dying from exhaustion. Also, the music I heard in the film that I've seen so far was beautiful. It sounds like Michael Giacchino is going to have another amazing score. With what I heard already, I'm already sold. ![]() Unfortunately, I doubt any of these videos will make it to the internet, unless people ILLEGALLY post them, so footage is all confidential to only the conference room. Sorry guys. So now that I finally got to see a good amount of 'Up', and other goodies from Pete Docter, I can happily say this will be a real treat, and very humorous. If there's one thing I can show you guys, I took a quick snapshot of Pete Doc today! The quality turned out bad, because I didn't have the time to adjust anything because the batteries were dead, but I'm sure you can recognize his figure in this pic! http://www.visionsfantastic.com/foru...4/100_4482.jpg EDIT: Disney today also released a teaser site for Up, I guess for the people who did not get to be at the conference today, so here it is: http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/up/

Actually the only Pixar films to ever make a June release so far have been Cars, Ratatouille, and WALL-E.
Toy Story, A Bug's Life, Toy Story 2, Monsters Inc., and The Incredibles have all gotten November releases. Finding Nemo had a May release, and it looks like Up now will also be getting the May treatment.

I'm not sure I 100% understand the storyline of this movie. Someone care to explain?

Apparently the storyline goes like this.
This guy named Carl wants to explore the world. By the time he's 78, he hasn't accomplished this. Then he meets a chubby scout named Russel and they go on an adventure. I have a weird feeling it could be taking place during WWII.

Ok... this can be big spoilers to some of you... So if you don't want to know about the film, DON'T READ AHEAD. Ok, so the man named Carl - the movie starts out when he was young, when he meets a girl named Ellie, that in the future becomes his wife. He loves Ellie very much, and they were to do many things in life together. Ellie is a very adventurous one, and she wanted Carl to promise to take a trip with her to South America together at one point in life so they can have their own adventure. As the years go by, nothing ever happens. Eventually Carl's wife passes away, and no trip has ever been made. The town that Carl and his wife lived in as they grew up has since become a huge city, except for his small house that they lived in. The house in the city is the only thing left from his past, everything else grew into buildings and skyscrapers. Carl knew he is getting old, and soon it will be time that the retirement community will come and take him out of his home and lock him up in a retirement home for him to rot for the rest of his life. Carl doesn't like that idea, especially when this house of his is the only memory he has left of his beloved wife. So Carl begins taking tons of balloons (I believe the balloons are symbolic and represent his wife, because a really important turn point in his life with Ellie, had lots of balloons at that event) and starts tying them to his house from his chimney - thousands and thousands of balloons it looked like, all in preparation to make a grand escape from the city that he now hates. Soon the people from the retirement home arrive at Carl's house, and welcomes Carl to come to their car so they can take him away. Carl hands them his suitcase, and the people ask him if there's anything else he might want to pack together. Carl says yes and slams the door on them angrily. The people ready to take him away stand there all dumbfounded for a moment or two, then all the sudden the place starts to rumble, and they look above the house, as thousands of balloons start to fill the sky. They have no idea how to react to that, but as enough balloons hit the sky, the place starts to rumble, and the house slowly starts to rip itself from the foundation and pipes and whatnot. The house then drifts towards the street and hits the retirement people's car parked there, and almost hits a building. The house gets higher and higher as Carl watches from out the window. As he gets high enough in the sky, Carl releases the sails (Made from bed sheets?) from each side of his house, and sets sail for South America. Sooo, you kinda get the idea with what you just read, that this story will be about a man trying to pursue something that he had promised from years' past, and that he wants to have one last adventure before he gets too old. Carl eventually makes it into South America, but trouble happens when he falls out of his house to the ground with this hitch hiking boy scout by the name of Russel. They hold onto the house with the garden hoses and they try to drag it through the jungle. So plots seem to change a bit partway through the movie, when new troubles happen in the jungle. Well that's pretty much all I know and/or saw last Saturday about the movie, and I was really stunned about how beautiful and funny the whole thing is. I just have to say, Pixar really knows how to set their bars higher than each film created by each new ones they make. I can't wait to see more of Up, because I'm going crazy over it already, and it's still nearly a year that we'll have to wait.

Woah! Where'd they get that from?
LOL on: Russel: Hi, Mr. Fredrickson. Can I come in? [brief pause] Carl: No. [Carl closes door followed by a long pause. Carl opens door] Carl: Okay, come in.

Oh no! Not another movie about a guy who ties balloons to his house and flies to South America! How many of these can the market handle?
![]() Wow, this story seems very original. From what I know about it, I like the theme a lot. Pixar movies are getting more and more mature in their story-telling. Up appears to be something to look forward to. And the title is so much easier to spell than Ratatouille. |
