Default Most moving Disney movies and movie moments

Well.... I just finished watching The Hunchback of Notre Dame.... and I find myself, as always.... very moved.

So... what moments in the archives of Disney film making move you?

I'll start.

I was 12 years old, sitting with my family in a darkened movie theater. The Lion King was the first film I had ever actually paid to see myself. Rafiki stands at the base of Pride Rock and softly instructs Simba that "It is time."
The orchestra soars, driven by resolute drums as Simba ascends Pride Rock and looks to the heavens. The heavens open as Mufasa delivers his last bit of fatherly wisdom to his son "Remember....." Simba's roar pierces the air as he takes his place as king before we are taken back to Pride Rock as the subjects once again to greet a new cub. The film leaves us just as it had begun, completing the symbolism of the Circle of Life.

It was at that very moment, as a 12 year old boy.... sitting in a crowded theater full of people who sat simply silent.... awestruck... inspired... moved... a 12 year old boy with years in his eyes knew in that very moment what he wanted to do with his life...

Just in the film I just saw.... when Quasimodo breaks his chains and swings from the cathedral to rescue Esmeralda.... and then climbs back up. As he stands before a massive stained glass window, holding her limp body over his head and cries out "Sanctuary!".... that gets me every time. And the very end with the little girl.... the heartbreak you feel as Quasimodo loses the love of his life... but gains acceptance by the city he has loved his whole life.... that is a triumphant moment in film.

So... tell me your moments. We all have them. If we didnt, we wouldnt be here. So, the floor is open.

Man. You took mine! I was going to say the end of The Lion King too. For the most part, I don't get moved by the happy stuff, but the sad stuff really gets me. Like in The Incredibles when Mr. Incredible finds out that his kids are on the plane that gets shot down, it always makes me want to cry for a second. Same with the end when they get home and Syndrome has Jack-Jack in his arms.

I'll try to think of some more later.

k I am a hormonal mess, so pretty much anything makes me cry. For hours after the movie, I will still be moved to tears. The most recent...In WallE when he's holding the umbrella over Eve and he just looks so sad that she's not "there". Then again when he loses his personality for awhile and Eve thinks she lost him. Ah dang, see I'm getting choked up!

Trivia: In the movie "Cars", the tow truck introduces himself as "Mater, like Ta-Mater without the Ta". However, in French, the joke did not translate so he introduced himself as "Martin, like Aston Martin without the Aston"

I'm an aesthetic person, so I get moved more by beautiful images than I do by dramatic scenes...

- The entire "Night on Bald Mountain" and "Ave Maria" sequence from Fantasia.
- Snow White lying motionless in her glass coffin, petals gently raining down from the tree and rays of light shining on her.
- The flight over London and the golden Jolly Roger flying over Neverland in Peter Pan, to the chorale tune of "You Can Fly".
- The starlit Alps in Pinocchio and the decent of the Blue Fairy.
- Also from Fantasia, the sunset in the "Pastoral Symphony", especially the setting of Helios and Diana firing her arrow.
- "Blue Shadows on the Trail" from Melody Time.

Its not a movie, but in Fantasmic, everytime I see Mickey say, "some imagination huh?", that phrase always makes me believe in myself in completing my dream, to be an imagineer.

I agree. For me, the Steamboat Willie moment in Fantasmic is incredible. The symbolism there is great and the crowds response is amazing. The same when we finally see Sorcerer Mickey at the end.

I remembered in Hercules, when he gives up his dream to be with Meg... that is an incredible moment for me. It is much like what I went through when I chose my wife over my aspirations.

It's not a movie, either, but... after the fireworks. The "Remember When" song. I love that song, but it makes me want to cry. Or I do cry.

I love the end of Fantasmic. When Sorcerer Mickey comes and the music is loud and dramatic. I always get goose-bumps!

Another one is is in a movie. It's in the beginning of Finding Nemo when Marlin loses his wife. That just gets me every time! :'(

At the end of Pochahantas, as John Smith is being loaded onto the ship, the music starts to build and she starts running and the two of them say "goodbye".

...even thothere is a lot of things going on at this pint in HBOND, I absolutly love the part in the climax when Pheobus breaks out his prison and gives that rousing speech that makes the crowd attack the guards...

..when all of the dwarfs are around Snow White with the candles lit and Grumpy, of all people starts weeping...

...when Simba comes back to Mufasa's lifeless body and tries to wake him up, then starts yelling for help.

Why cant Disney make more films like these? Things that are serious in nature with comedy and fun mixed in? They dont make them like this anymore. That saddens me.

moving moments... This is gonna sound sappy, but I'd tried to get to DLR for years, and my sisters and parents always said the same thing: never happening, and then... it just happened. I visited a few colleges, and I spent one day at DLR, and at the end, we watched RDCT, and I, knowing the music by heart, took in the visuals fully for once, and at the end, I could barely hold back the tears as I looked at the finale and I thought... 'I got my wish, my one short day... and it was more magical than I had ever dreamed.' The pride, and the joy, and the gratefulness were overwhelming, and I was in a daze as I walked back down Main Street. And as I came to the Main Street Station, I looked over to the Second Story Apartment, and I saw the lantern burning.

And of course to keep on topic, I have one that actually is a movie moment. It's not so much moving as it is a defining point in my life. It's fall of my 8th grade year, my third since shutting myself away from 'Childish Disney films', and after reading a version of Arabian nights, I'm compelled to watch the film I grew up loving, but then I stop as I reach the shelf holding it. I don't know how long I have the house to myself, but I pick it up and put it in anyway, thinking I'd turn it off if the others came home. I fast forward through the pre-roll, using every ounce of willpower to shove down the urge to put it back away and call it a mistake, but then the film starts, and after about thirty seconds, I'm no longer keeping myself from turning it off: I'm keeping myself from turning it up. And after 'One Jump Ahead', I've let go of that, too. At the end, I don't bother putting it away before rushing to my room and buying the soundtrack, and as the songs download one after another, I pause for a second, my previous distaste for the films remembered as a blush rises in my cheeks... only to subside as I throw it aside. The films aren't childish, but my fear of them is.

I went on to pick up the other films again, one after another, and by the end of my freshman year, I no longer feared my friends seeing a Menken song on my iPod.

(Don't hate me because it's Pixar) When Marlin hears Nemo's voice and then rushes towards him always gets me. Happy and sad at the same time...wierd feeling.
