Default Deleted scene from "Who Framed Roger Rabbit"

Some movie buffs had been bothered by a certain scene in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit": specifically, the scene in the Terminal Bar, roughly halfway through the movie, where Eddie Valiant, following his removing himself from the handcuffs courtesy of a handy saw, leaves Roger with his longtime girlfriend, Dolores, and says to her that he's returning to his office to check on something.

The next scene after this one shows Jessica Rabbit coming into Eddie's office as Eddie emerges from the bathroom, slightly wet and without wearing a shirt. And they start talking away on Jessica's involvement in the whole situation...

Wait! This is no time for Eddie to take a shower! Judge Doom and the Toon Patrol are onto Roger. The Hollywood hare's life is hanging in the balance. Does that make any sense?

Well, there is a reason that it should not. The original screenplay of the movie, titled "Who Shot Roger Rabbit", called for a whole day and a whole night to pass by after Eddie entrusts Roger to Dolores and before Jessica meets Eddie in his office as the latter emerges from the bathroom, presumably after taking a shower.

You know what it is? Here's a hint: part of this particular scene can be found on the 15th Anniversary DVD as a standalone bonus feature. Next time, I'll explain in full.

That would be very interesting to see. I like WFRR and think that, while this content is pretty provacative, it wou;d have expanded the audience's knowledge of the characters, created more twists and would've been fun. I'm sorry to see that this has been cut out. Judge Doom is my third favorite villian and I wish he had more screen time.

In the deleted scene, part of which is available on the 15th Anniversary DVD released in 2003, after Eddie leaves Roger with Dolores, he goes by Red Car to the Forest Lawn Cemetery, where a cavalcade of Toons, some you would probably recognize, others you probably would not, are in attendance for the funeral of Marvin Acme. They are all in tears. Valiant watches the proceedings from behind a tree off to the side. R.K. Maroon arrives at the site driving a Packard and wends his way through the crowd to find an empty seat and watch.

The eulogy is delivered in a blustery Southern accent, courtesy of Foghorn Leghorn. The coffin bearers who bring Acme's coffin to the burial site are Droopy, Elmer Fudd, Yosemite Sam, Goofy, Popeye and Bluto. They bring the casket to a human funeral director who lowers it into the grave, using a crank to do. However, as he is doing this, the crank belts out the tune of "Pop Goes the Weasel", going faster and faster, with the Toons all joining in the song. As the song ends, a harlequin-type clown springs out of part of the coffin. The Toons' cries all transform to laughter and they all leave the gravesite, still laughing. Only Jessica Rabbit, still crying, and Maroon are left. He approaches her and they get into an argument, possibly about Acme and the will. It's very hard to tell what's going on, though, because, as Eddie watches the ordeal, the noise of such is being drowned out by a gardener cutting the grass using a riding mower. Frantically, Eddie tries to get the man to turn it off, but to no avail. Maroon and Jessica then storm off in a huff, and only then does the gardener finally turn off his machine.

That night, two movers, with the assistance of the gorilla bouncer from the Ink and Paint Club, are moving a pair of baby grand pianos from a Steinway truck into the Ink and Paint Club. Eddie is hiding inside the second one. Once inside the building, Eddie can't fully leave yet, as Donald Duck and Daffy Duck come out to test the piano keys. While testing the piano Eddie is hiding in, the scales run up the piano key hammers as they hit the strings until one hammer hits Eddie on the nose, making a bad sour note. Donald grumbles that the piano is out of tune and he and Daffy agree to take care of that using an axe and a sledgehammer, respectively. They leave and Eddie quickly climbs out of the piano and hurries over to Jessica's dressing room, despite the sounds of scuffling coming from the general vicinity.

Valiant enters the room and turns on the light. He then proceeds to search high and low for the ever-elusive will of Acme's. For a while, his search is in vain, until he finally discovers the dressing table. Here, he finds a purse with a Toon revolver sticking out of it and a Hurrel-type black and white picture of Roger dramatically poised with a cigarette like Tyrone Power. At last, Eddie looks behind the dressing table and, lo and behold, he finds the empty cover of a legal document: Acme's will. Eddie pockets the cover and turns to leave. But suddenly, an unseen hand douses the light and then in the pitch blackness, we hear the sound of a fistfight going on. Then the assailant escapes and Eddie tries to go after it. But when he opens the door to leave, he is dismayed to find the gorilla bouncer, the same one that had jettisoned him from the club a few nights earlier, standing over him just in the doorway. With a single right cross, the gorilla lays Eddie out cold.

Later, Eddie comes to and sees Judge Doom and the Toon Patrol weasels standing over him. Doom commends the gorilla (whom he calls Bongo) for catching Eddie for breaking and entering and rummaging and then has the weasels put a groggy Eddie in a chair. Doom accuses Eddie of breaking and entering and demands to know what he was looking for. Eddie turns to Jessica for support. She says that recently a breather wanted a nylon of hers as a souvenir and queries Eddie about if that was what he wanted. Eddie replies that he was looking for Acme's will. Doom says that Acme had no will and is certain of this because the probate is in his court. Eddie counters that Acme did have a will and accuses Maroon and Jessica bumping him off for it. Doom asks Eddie for proof, saying that his accusations are serious ones. Eddie looks into his pocket for the envelope, only to find nothing. He says that the one who had attacked him had taken it off of him and accuses Bongo of interrupting his trying to apprehend the assailant. Bongo tries to make a move for Eddie, but Doom stops him, deciding to handle it his way: downtown. Eddie is sure that he means he is only going into L.A. and asks if he can get a hold of Lt. Santino first. But Doom says that by "downtown", he meant, "downtown Toontown". Naturally, Eddie, who had refused to ever set foot in Toontown again since the death of his brother at a Toon's hands, objects to this. But Doom refuses to hear a word of it, accusing Eddie of being stubborn and pig-headed and has the weasels take him out in their paddy wagon.

Later that evening, the Toon Patrol paddy wagon is seen racing toward the tunnel leading into Toontown. But first, they stop the truck so that the weasels can make the captive Eddie look at the sign to Toontown. Then the truck races into the inky blackness of the tunnel. The camera then pans up to the sky, then the sky fades into daylight and the camera pans back down to the tunnel. The weasels mockingly make pig-like noises and then they jettison Eddie from Toontown with a burlap sack over him. He is seen stumbling around. The weasels emerge, holding paint cans and brushes. They laugh at his misfortune and leave. Eddie rips off the sack and it's revealed that the weasels had worked him over and painted a great big Toon pig head with a grinning expression over him. Upset, Eddie leaves.

At a Red Car trolley stop, Eddie gets aboard and sees the trolley driver, Earl, from the Terminal Bar. Earl is shocked to find Eddie like this. Eddie explains what had happened and Earl tells him he had been given what one calls a Tooneroo. In Eddie's case, Earl says to him, he's a happy-go-lucky pig, then asks Eddie to take a seat in the very back so as not to cause a commotion. As Eddie makes his way toward the back, he is tormented by the other passengers. At the back, Eddie finally sits down and the trolley departs.

A child looks at Eddie the Toon/human and asks his mom if he can go up to him. He is given permission by his mom to do so. Holding a baseball bat, the kid walks up to Eddie innocently and asks him to make a cuckoo bird if he bashed him on the head with his bat and prepares to take a swing. Eddie threatens him that he will throw the kid out the window if he got struck on the head. The kid is terrified by this unusual Toon response and runs away, crying.

Back at his office, Eddie is in the shower, feverishly washing the pig head off his head, using turpentine. The camera shows the Toon paint being washed down the drain. Once the head is finally gone, Eddie emerges from the shower and the bathroom and is surprised to find Jessica inside his office. She explains that she rang the doorbell, but he probably didn't hear it. He replies that he didn't hear the doorbell because he doesn't have one. Caught in her lie, Jessica nervously flutters her eyelashes and says that she just had to see him. "Okay, you've seen me," Eddie replies. "Now give me a towel." As Jessica does so, she notices his anatomy and asks what that thing is. Looking down, Eddie is surprised to learn that she has never seen a mole before. Jessica explains that Toons are never given imperfections, to which Eddie guesses that lying, stealing and murder don't count.

And after that little exchange of words, the movie more or less continues like in the final film. But in the final film, when Eddie emerges from the bathroom, there was the sound of a toilet flushing to cover up anything that may have been amiss otherwise.

I actually would like to see this scene. I think it really would have lent itself to the movie from the sound of it.

Well, part of the scene, as I said before, can be found on the Roger Rabbit DVD as a separate bonus feature. The scene shown is the part where Eddie goes to the dressing room, only to be stopped by the gorilla, who lets Doom and the weasels handle him. They then take him to Toontown and paint the pig head on him.
