Default Star Tours + peoplemover??

Theres this rumor floating about thats saying that as soon as 'It's A Small World' returns that they will close down Star Tours and redo it with some beter TVs and stuff and also they will start work on the people mover,in which will have a new tunnel where you go into where into the Star Tours buildin there will be a large screen all around you where it looks like there are X-wing fighters and other such thing flying all around you attacking the Death Star.
I hope this is True cuz it would be TOTALLY awesome!

I know the CM's aren't always trustworthy, but what one told me is that they will be working on the PM in 2010, and he said nothing about Star Tours. Since the original trilogy came out so long ago, I doubt there would be a Star Wars tunnel. Probably would be a Hannah Montana tunnel *shutters*

There is a rumor about a new Star Tours video though

I can't see how the executives and Imagineers and ignore the PM much longer. It simply needs to come back. Period. Looking at that empty track is truly painful for me.

I hear ya and agree, Wedbliss! Of all the attractions taken out of Disneyland, Peoplemover is the one I miss the very most. Bring it back already!

They aren't ignoring it, it's just very difficult thing to fix. The track and all the supports have to be fixed, because the Rocket Rods pretty much destroyed it. That would require them to close down sections of TL as the do this work, because it would most likely require some heavy machinery.
Also there would be lots of welding needed on the top track areas, to cut it out, and put in PPM track, and for the indoor areas, like SM, Star tours, there is always a fire risk. If they tear it down and get rid of it for good, that leaves the station there, all by itself, which would be pointless. And tearing it down, would also cause a big mess.
Plus they have a billion dollars going into DCA right now, so it wouldn't be the best of times to send more money out... Also take a look at our economy, things are getting very expensive, including construction.
I don't think they're ignoring it, they just don't know what to do with it.

I hate just looking up at that track and thinking of the possibilities that could evolve from it, I wouldnt mind if they closed parts down as long as it came back!! Id love to see the PM come back to DL, just another step in bringing back the classic Tomorrowland that Walt knew and loved!

George Lucas did announce a new video for the Star Tours in Florida. Many believe it will also be moved to CA after it is perfected in FL.

Thing is, would such major construction be going on for the 55th anniversary?

Yes it would. 2010 is not far away. DCA will be heavily under tarp and detour, and the Disneyland Hotel will not be far behind. It's quite possible that a great deal of construction will also be present for the 60th anniversary.

Ah I see.. I guess I was thinking that since its such a major year, and Tomorrowland is a popular and congested area, doing major construction wouldn't seem like the best idea. But PM work could easily take place behind the scenes (and just as well on the scenes). It'd be better, imo, to do it now and have it all ready by the major year, a la Space Mountain being down from 03-05 and up for the 50th.

As for the DLH, do you think they would do work on it (what is it, a total demolition or just renovation) tower by tower so as to at least have some rooms open, especially for major years?

... Could they even implode the towers individually? That doesn't seem like a lot of space to be able to implode them. I don't think they can ever implode them period with how close they are to other areas of the resort.

^good point. Forgive my architecture ignorance, but maybe there's ways to take it down without imploding... I mean, I hope they don't. If they wanna just renovate the current towers, I'm all for it, but I think I'd cry if they took down the whole thing and build anew, especially with a new design.

Imploding it all at once would not be a major mess, but would be a loss of hotel revenue and space, imo.
