As some of you know...Rockin' Space Mountain debuted to the public on January 4, 2007 and it continued until April 26, 2007. The overlay turned the darkness of space and made it into a rock 'n' roll light show with the Red Hot Chili Peppers playing on the coaster's speakers. As far as I know, most of you...well, hated it. I for one thought it was a fun diversion.
Well for those of you that HATED Rockin' Space Mountain, this might scare you...according to disneyland.com, the ride will be closed for two days on the 15th and 16th of January 2008...Rockin' Space Mountain might come back. Why would I assume that the refurbishment is for RSM and not for maintenance. Well the ride, as far as I know, isn't really falling apart and the speakers work just fine. So I think that the awesome Rockin' Space Mountain is making a comeback for the 2008 Spring Season. |

I wouldn't necessarily say people HATED it here.. Most people seemed to think it was interesting and fun; though, most could do without it if for say it were to ever return later years.
I for one, can do without for returning later years. I mean, it's all fun, right? But I think the regular Space Mountain is far more superior than Rockin' Space Mountain, that it really doesn't need such overlays. Space Mountain is already as popular as is, and I don't think it needs these to boost attendence or whatever it is Disney is looking for.

Ok well I just looked at the calender. I figured out the trick to see their schedule for the whole month, you have to say your date is DEC 31 then where it says Span in the URL change it to 30 0r something.

Well it's never had a refurb since 7/17/05 when it reopened, so there is 27 months of constant wear & tear. Not to mention one sound effect that went missing after Rockin' that's still missing.

Well I last rode it, when rockin' was going, but how the heck do you change wear and tear from 27 months in two days? To maintain the ride going, they have to replace the wheels every once and a while anyway. And steel tracks shouldn't make the wheels squeak. It doesn't on any outdoor coaster I've been on. But like I said they have to change the wheels every so often, and I'm pretty sure coasters don't have axels that go across the entire train. I know they replace the wheels because at Magic Music days, we had to get from the music building behind toontown, up to the stage next to the castle. And we went past the Train shed on BTMRR, and there were new packs of wheels and a bucket with old wheels in it. If they change em' that often on btmrr then they probably do the same on Space Mountain. Plus how could they fix that much stuff in two days? Yes they probably could fix the audio but idk about anything else.

Well im pretty sure everything for RSM is still their. They just gotta fire it all up, load up the show file, and press the "go" button
As for adding effects, the moving heads (the lights that move) have gobos, which are cut outs of pictures, so it projects stuff. And the light changes color behind it, thats how they did the moving dancers in RSM. They may have DL1's (ha Disneyland DL) http://www.highend.com/products/digi...hting/dl_1.asp thats a DL one, its a projector that sits on a moving base. We've got one at our school its sweet. Its plugged into a video server, ( a computer or something) and then we record a show with the path of the image. And voila you have a moving image. All they'd have to do is load in a new video which would take not much time at all. But I still doubt their gonna do that.

^Well lets see, how many employee's did they use? ALOT!!! DL can't spare as many employee's. But I'm talking a refurb where they take apart all of the cars, and replace any parts. Sure they could take them apart, and put em together, but do they have that many spare parts, for the number of trains they have? Plus if they had to do fix the track at all it'd have to get fixed, then inspected and tested. And they usually test for a full day straight. So you may as well count it about 1 and 1/4 of a day.

The galaxy projection that can be seen while going up the 2nd lift wasn't working when I went in late July. Also the asteroid wasn't lit up. Are they back on now?

^ The asteriod's never been lit up as far as I know. Maybe once or twice during one test or another, but that's about it. As for that little spinny galaxy, it's pretty much hit & miss.

Well im assuiming its a HES DL1, or 2. Im in stagecraft at school, and we were talking about moving projectors. we had a show where a video appeared in different spots, so we came up with a solution! We strapped a LCD projector on top of a moving head! The moving head cost 2,000 dollars, and the project was 800, and its great!
Keep in mind that they may be using custom made gobo's ( an object that blocks the light and creates an image) and they can spin, yet those dancers moved in a very complicated pattern. Anyway, many companies sell their equipment after use, so Disney may have sold it. I don't think they did, usually its broadway show tours that sell their stuff.
