HA! Asking some of these people to have faith in Disney and at least wait to judge the ride is like asking them walk on water!

^ You guys aren't getting the point at all. It's not about what specifically they do to the ride. We all know they are changing it to fit with the movies, and that's all we need to know.

Default You're Not Going To Like This!

1 February 2006: Pirates updates confirmedIt has today been confirmed internally at Disney that Pirates of the Caribbean at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland will undergo the much rumored show enhancements. Top of the list are the additions of elements from the Pirates of the Caribbean movies, including Captain Jack Sparrow and Barbossa audio-animatronics. There will also be new special effects, and some new operational enhancements. The timeframe has not been confirmed.

I'd take the new special fx, but not the other crap. Its too bad there doing it to both POTC's cuz i said well they probably will change it so i'll go to WDW even though that place isn't as good but nevermind.

Yeah. I can understand new f/x and a new soundtrack digitally remastered, but everything else can go. If they were just redoing the ride with different scenarios not themed to the movies but just to change up the ride, I wouldn't mind that as much. At least it would still be original but updated.

Thumbs down Not so bad...

The film is inspired by the ride. So the whole time this was a Disneyland thing. Not a Pixar thing, not a Disney Channel thing, not even a Disney Animation thing. From the start it was a Disneyland thing.

Did the film change your perspective of the ride? Maybe a little bit. Was this a negative thing? No, I don't really think that it was. If anything, it broadened the scope of the attraction. In this Post-Jack Sparrow Era, the ride has undergone revitalization in concept, if only in our minds.

Did the film diminish the prominence of the attraction? Of course not--if anything it raised it. So what if Jack Sparrow joins the crew downstairs, it's all part of the now abusingly-over-quoted credo of Disneyland: A place that is never finished.

Does the ride lose any originality? No, becuase this was always a Disneyland thing. It's time for the boys down the double-flumes to meet the 21st century.

It does lose originality in the sense that as of now, there's nothing in that ride based on any previous "Pirates of the Caribbean" production. After that rehab, that will only be true in part.

IMO, since WDW's version is not an original classic, it is a poor clone, adding things from the movie franchise to it is a very good idea. It will add life to a currently dead attraction that is largely more an embarassment than a treasure. I've always believed that it makes a lot of sense for Disneyland, being the true original Disney park, should keep the true original Pirates ride. This is an alternative solution where everyone can have what they want in a sense. Those who want the movie stuff can go to FL, those who want the classic can go to CA. If you want to further whine that it's unfair that if you live in CA, you have to travel all the way to FL & it's inconvenient etc, ask yourself how fair it is to those who want the classic to not have any option to ride the classic at all?

It still strikes me as an interesting paradox that we're going to have a ride based on the movie that was based on that ride.

LOL! I thought the same thing...talk about convoluted...

Not changing anything in Anaheim risks turning it into Yesterland (my apologies to the site with the same name). This is what I might call the Knott's Berry Farm syndrome: Don't change anything in years and risk falling behind. While this might be pleasant for the more nostalgic parts of us, it's not practical from a business standpoint and it's against what Disneyland is about in the first place. I don't feel Disneyland is ready to become the next Coney Island yet...

WDw's pirates was too short and stinked. They should only change it to WDw's and not ours.

Exclamation Eddie Murphy Haunted Mansion? Like THAT?

This thread is really going nowhere. Here's the deal.

It shouldn't be changed. It is MAGIC. It is a FEAT OF ENGINEERING. It is DIFFERENT. It is ten steps above any other ride that has ever been created. Not everyone has seen that movie. That movie also came out years ago. The ride is the original. It is such a great ride, that we don't need ONE CENTRAL FIGURE to spell out what the ride is all about. The characters in the ride are already famous, just like the characters in the Haunted Mansion are already famous, on their own.

For all of those who want to change Pirates into a Johnny Depp tribute, I have an idea for all of you... Why don't you also petition for a Haunted Mansion that is themed around that moustachioed freak, Eddie Murphy? Why not? Isn't it the same thing?

Yours VERY Truly,

Hans

PS- Actually, I do think that they could stand to put better speakers throughout the ride... Some of them sound like the voices and ambient sounds are being played through a really bad transistor radio. But don't change any of the sounds, soundtracks, or voices. Just make 'em sound richer.

Default One more point.

This is meant only for those kids who this post applies to. This is not addressed to all young people, by any means.

This is to all of you little, disrespectful, underaged jerks out there who are making hurtful comments to anyone on here who is over 20 years old, calling their opinions "underrated" or "outdated". I have a few things to say to you. Please try to keep up, as I know that you are easily confused by "big words".

Every time you want to go to Disneyland, you just ask your mommy and daddy for another ticket, just like you ask them to wash your dirty underwear and feed you. Your opinion is totally irrelevant, and your parents must be absolutely ashamed. Sit down, junior. Life consists of more than the things you see through your limited view and experience. Put your baseball cap on forwards, pull your friggin pants up, and have some respect for yourselves, your parents, and people who know a lot more about life, art, and taste than you will know for quite a while.

Like I need to hear the opinions of the very people who are shooting spitwads at the pirate skull before the first drop on Pirates. As if I really respect anything that is said by the little miscreants who are ripping the paint and drywall apart on Space Mountain. Like I give a rat's you-know-what about your outlook on what is a true piece of American history. It's just a "thing" to you. It's not a part of your life. It's not a wonderful part of your past yet. You will look back on pictures of yourselves in a few years and be REALLY embarrassed (just as embarrassed as we are for you now). Let's not turn Disneyland into something that we will be as ashamed of as you will be of your personal pasts.

You truly disgust me, and everyone else who has respect for others, loves Disneyland, and can SPELL. Ugh.

Yours VERY, VERY Truly,

Hans

PS - To the person who has been jumping into this thread to make one-line, inflammatory comments over and over again: You really should have the guts to write more than one sentence, and try explaining what you are talking about. I don't think that you can, because you really don't have a point other than to take cheap shots at other users, and then get your jollies reading the reactions. Pathetic.
