Default I need people to respond to this because I dont know if it's a rumor or if it's true

My friend told me that at DLR one reason they have a lot of plants is because they have chemicals in them that get into people and make them hungry or thirsty. Then, when we went to buy fries at the McDonald's Fries Shop, my friend told me that they make the fries really dry (no grease) and salty so you buy a drink. Is any of this true? I mean, DLR has enough money in itself, they can support a $40,000 fireworks show every night and they still have a lot of money. So I would like a response really soon, thanks!

Ummmm... no. The Disneyland Resort has a lot of plants because it looks pretty and it provides shade. I really doubt that Disney's poisoning it's public just to make a couple bucks. Why you're so thirsty or hungry at Disneyland? You've been walking around all day, sometimes in the hot SoCal sun, and you're tired. It's true that there were very few water fountains (1-3) and a lot more Pepsi-Cola stands when Disneyland first opened, but that was because a plumber's strike forced Walt Disney to decide between more water fountains or bathrooms. Walt Disney responded to a journalist when he pointed this out by saying, "People can buy Pepsi-Cola, but they can't pee in the street."

AS for the fries thing? Any McDonald's stand is owned by McDonald's, not Disney.

I would doubt the fries because while they are being sold in Disneyland, they are still McDonald's product & I have a hard time thinking McDonald's would allow their product to be altered like that.

As for manipulating people into buying food/drinks, it's a well known successful strategy to do that. Phoney aromas of fresh buttered popcorn, fresh churros, freshly baked waffle cones all act as seeds to plant thoughts in guests' brains. Also the planting of free water fountains in obscure places while offering bottled water for $3/bottle or whatever it is in prominent places is another conventional strategy.

The bottom line goal for any of those places is simple - somehow get the people to spend more than they originally intended to.

Yes, but they're not chemicals that directly manipulate your mind; they just tempt your senses, not force you to be hungry or thirsty.

You know what's funny though. I've always had this theory about McDonalds that there is a chemical formula to keep you dependant on the "food".

I don't know to what extent it's been researched but even in SUPER SIZE ME Spurlock reported a certain "dependancy". "Depression" when not eating the food and a "euphoria" when fulfilling his craving.

Food for thought. HA!!

No, no. There are vents that pump out the smell (Example: vents underneath the glass windows at the candy store on Main Street pump out the scent of vanilla (or peppermint during Christmastime).

So since this isn't really a rumor anymore, is there a way I can move this thread into the Disneyland section of the discussion boards?

AKA an AC vent. As for the food carts, they do vent them to keep the heat away from the CM so they don't get dehydrated.

I dont think it is true. I was hanging around in Adventureland for a bit (lots of plants there) and didn't get hungry until lunch time like I always do. If it was true, I think more people would have heard about it.

Strangely, every time I go to Disneyland, I always manage to stay not hungry for most of the day, I barely eat there. I more drink water or something to keep me hydrated for the day. Then when dinner comes around, I'll eat.
