CARS themed Autopia Opening 2009

Just announced that the autopia that we all love is GOING TO BE THEMED WITH THE CARS MOVIE...says an LA Times article.

Wooooow.. that kinda sucks (No offence to Disney). But isn't Autopia an original Walt Disney attraction??

Is there a chance you could provide a link to the article to prove that this is true?

And if it is true, it looks like Tomorrowland will turn into Pixarland after all....It won't be long until the Imagineers change Star Tours, Space Mountain, and all the other Tomorrowland rides into Pixar-based rides.

Why can't they just put a CARS-themed autopia ride in California Adventure and leave the original one alone?

Yeah. Star Tours, Space Mountain, and every other attraction can turn into more Buzz Lightyear rides. Or maybe even rides based off Wall-E, Pixar's next movie after Ratatouille, which happens to be set in a Sci-Fi setting. I mean, it is most fitting for a place like Tomorrowland afterall..

Autopia has gone through so many changes, I wouldn't care if they changed it to "cars"... I bet it'd be a whole lot different than what it is now though!

Maybe put a classic 'midget autopia' back where the motorboat cruise used to be (and pretty darn close to where the midget autopia used to be!)

I'd like to see a reference about this though, or else we're moving this thread to the "rumors" section pretty darn quick!

okay... just did a search in the LA Times and given the absence of any article on Disneyland recently, this thread is going into the RUMORS SECTION.

Also, micechat and mouseplanet would have covered this 'breaking news', and there's no mention of it.

This rumor has been around for a while as a "what if?" Frankly, I don't like the Autopia as it is now, which is different than it was when my kids were little, which was different than it was when I was little. I think a "Cars" theme would be adorable and that today's generation of young'uns would love it. I would see a HUGE problem, though, as they would fight over getting their favorite car. Also, since all the character cars from the movie have -uh- tops? ceilings? roofs? it would be difficult to make a "one-size-fits-all" ride car that actually looks like a Cars character. And while I have no complaint about bringing more Pixar movie stuff into Disneyland (go hunt up the old discussion of all the "classic" rides that are based on "classic" Disney movies to see that basing rides on movies is status quo for Disney), I don't think the setting or style of the movie would fit in Tomorrowland. I've never been on it, but I hear there is another car ride in DCA that might be a better fit for a Cars redesign.
