I have a friend who is a castmember and he has been claiming for some time now that Disney is going to abandon the current fastpass system in favor of one only for Disney Hotel guests. When I saw him last week he said that this will be going into effect within the next month! Now to be honest, I don't hold much stock in his "facts" (he can tend to exaggerate or twist things for a reaction), however I'm wondering if there is any truth to this or if anyone else has heard something to that effect? I haven't been able to dig anything up from my personal research but maybe it's just been under wraps?

We have it on good authority that serious discussions are happening at the highest levels of both Disney and Hasbro to fold the largest toy and game company on the planet into the Mouse. From what we’re told, these are still just discussions at this point, but serious enough that something could be announced at any time and create ripples throughout the entertainment industry.

The Lucasfilm acquisition has been reported as taking as few as 6 months to complete. On the other hand, Disney Chairman and CEO Bob Iger has until 2015 on his current contract, and he waited about 3 years in between the acquisitions of Marvel and Lucasfilm, so we may be without firm news on this for some time.

The acquisition would give Disney the rights to Transformers, G.I. Joe, Dungeons and Dragons, Beyblade, Battleship, Nerf, and Magic: The Gathering among several dozen other game titles and IP. When you add Marvel and Star Wars to that list it’s a pretty comprehensive lock on boy’s entertainment; a far cry from a few years back when Disney was heavily criticized for losing its grip on boys.

Movie Hole
Disney’s Condorman, the story of a cartoonist that transforms into the superhero he draws, is the latest being tinkered with over there in the Burbank redo department. The 1981 Charles Jarrott film starred Brit stage star Michael Crawford, Oliver Reed, and James Hampton. “The idea remains the same”, a House of Mouse insider – albeit one that works in a producing capacity for animation, so hasn’t got a direct line to anyone on this particular production and has admittedly heard this all third hand – told me over Skype this morning. “Emphasis would be more on action this time around though.”

“But there’s talk of doing lots with the Condorman brand.” The original Condorman wasn’t a big success, and didn’t gain much love among critics, but in recent years its taken on somewhat of a cult classic status, which has apparently helped stem the movement to get the reboot on the fast track.

One of the big supporters behind the resurrection of Condorman is Stephen Wackler, an editor on Amazing Spider-Man. He, and quite a few others, believe that with Disney now doing Marvel’s movies, they should consider making the character part of the Marvel Universe. Either way, “it would all begin with a solo movie – the obligatory origins movie.”
Fans of 1993's Halloween-themed comedy Hocus Pocus might have a chance to see the popular vacuum-riding witch trio returning to the big screen. Moviehole has the words that Walt Disney Pictures is currently developing a sequel to the Sarah Jessica Parker-starring fantasy movie. According to the report, the possible sequel will be titled Hocus Pocus 2: Rise of the Elderwitch. It will likely feature new cast members since some of the original stars (Sarah Jessica Parker, Kathy Najimy and Bette Midler) have now become in-demand actresses. The story is said to be an "all-new tale, though set in the same surrounds as the first film and likely tackling similar teritory."

No words from Disney have been released regarding the report, but it is said that the sequel has been planned to be released sometime in 2013.
All I've managed to find are second-hand (or even third-hand) reports. Rumors are going around that the sequel may be multi-platform... but it's hard to judge from market research questions. The whole point of this type of questionaire is to gage the potential interest in a product, one that may not even exist... yet. And it the responses are tepid, it may never happen.

The world's leading theme park operators — Disney World, Canada's Wonderland , Sentosa of Singapore and Genting of Malaysia — are in talks to set up a Disneylandstyle park in Gujarat, that could be bigger than the Disneylands in California, Paris or Tokyo.

The $2.1-billion project being developed by Mumbai-based by infrastructure and real estate firm, Atlanta, has already been cleared by the Gujarat Tourism Department. Ernst & Young has done the market research and financial modelling for the project, while the concept plan has been prepared by architecture and design firm, Morphogenesis, two people familiar with the development said.

A senior executive of Atlanta said, "We would not like to comment as details are being worked out." A Disney spokesperson added, "We are constantly exploring opportunities to grow our busness. As part of that process, we have conversations with lots of entities. While India is an attractive market, at this time, we have no further plans for this region." Others did not respond to email sent by Economic Times.

That's right folks, Blackbeard may be returning to Pirates of the Caribbean. For many years (Before the movie character refurbishment a few years ago) Blackbeard appeared as the captain of the Wicked Wench, bombarding the sleeping Spanish port. With Blackbeard now joining the cast of movie characters he may very well be immortalized in the attraction. Where? Well he's not going back to the Wicked Wench. Nope, he's supposedly replacing a recently-added effect: Davy Jones.

Will a holographic version of Blackbeard soon begin appearing in Disney's "Pirates of the Caribbean" ride?

SPOILER: Apparently Blackbeard has magical powers in the movie, hence why his face will supposedly replace Davy's on the waterfall.

I don't know how it will work, but I'm a bit divided on it. It'll be great to have Blackbeard return (Not the original, but it's cool) but might be odd theme-wise. Davy fits in with the grotto as he is ghostly and practically undead. It makes sense to have him lurking in haunted caverns. Blackbeard on the waterfall may not have the same effect, whether he has magical powers or not. For all we know he can be undead in the movie. We'll just have to wait until May 20th.

Thoughts?

Thoughts?

Not letting another marketing opportunity go to waste, Disney theme park engineers (otherwise known as Imagineers) are supposedly working on a new theme park ride to go along with the upcoming Tron: Legacy film. Rumor has it that Disney Imagineers have been pouring over the Tron: Legacy sets, concept art, and props to potentially put together a new ride attraction.

Although this new ride is just in its initial stages, if the film does as well as Disney expects one can expect a new Tron: Legacy ride to be constructed in just a few years. Where might you find such a ride? Where else but Tomorrowland of course.

Cinema Blend
In the new Entertainment Weekly’s coverage of the Marvel-Disney deal they randomly drop this aside: “Pixar is said to already be eyeballing an Ant-Man movie.” They offer no further explanation for this particular minor bombshell, but there was news last week that Disney-Pixar animation head John Lasseter was meeting with Marvel’s team. With better characters like Iron Man already taken, doing Ant-Man might make sense.

There’s one minor hitch here and that’s the fact that Marvel already had a live-action Ant-Man in development. They already have a script, written by Hot Fuzz’s Edgar Wright, who had also planned to direct. Wright has been busy working on Scott Pilgrim, but when he finishes most had assumed Ant-Man to be next. If EW’s story is correct, then perhaps we’ll soon see Edgar trying his hand at directing animation. Or maybe Wright is out entirely, a consequence of his choosing Scott Pilgrim over getting things done with his Ant-Man script. We’ll let you know, as soon as there’s some sort of official announcement.
