Website Updates

The tireless work of Jeffrey Baldwin continued this past week. We have restored most of our site interior pages (the flash maps and theme park pages). Along with that, we have also restored the Gallery that I mentioned in our last update. It is still our intention to eliminate the Gallery, but a number of people had requested to get access to their files so they can transfer them to their computer. Deadline to get your materials from the Gallery will be July 1, 2013. At which point we will delete all existing materials within the Gallery.

VF Radio Requests

The next task involves VF Radio Requests and bringing back this unique feature. Because of a changed server configuration, we (Jeff) is essentially starting from scratch to get the server up and running again properly. We anticipate at least another week or two until we can share any updates on it's return date. There will likely be an extensive testing period where we don't allow any Requests.

VF Scavenger Hunt 8

Registrations are now open for the Scavenger Hunt. Premium Members can get in on the early-bird discount, which is $25. Regular Members $30. Prices go up June 1 - you have 30 days prior to the Hunt in which to cancel your registration for a full refund (minus Paypal fees).

Registrations Now Open!

Yes folks, it's that time of year again to start assembling your two person teams and send in your registrations! This year plans to be ever bigger and better then before! But first some details:

Basic Rules:

The VF Digital Scavenger Hunt is a game designed for teams consisting of two people. They use their keen eyes to spot a variety of details inside the Disneyland Resort. Like any other scavenger hunt, you need to know what you're looking for before you can find it, right? So each team is given a booklet. These booklets will contain cropped photos and a list of other items that are located throughout Disneyland. Your job is to find these items and use your digital camera to take a picture of the item. Only digital cameras that store the pictures on removable memory cards may be used for this, no cell phones or any other type of cameras. You team will spend the day wandering around the park looking for these items and MORE!. Points are awarded to the top teams that locate and take a picture correctly of the items.

This years event will take place inside the Disneyland Resort on Saturday, September 7th, 2013 with event check in starting at 7:30 am at the picnic area to the west of the Disneyland main entrance. The Hunt starts around 8:30 am or when all the teams have arrived and checked in. Details are still being worked out, but plan on having the awards ceremony between 6:00 - 7:00 pm.

* = Park admission is not included in your registration. You are responsible for entry into Disneyland, along with all associated costs (parking, food, beverages, etc). No items will be located inside Disney California Adventure, so you will NOT need to purchase a Park Hopper ticket. However, there is a chance that we will try to get a group to go into DCA after the event for a meal or the go on some attractions.

Team Registrations:

To enter a team, all you need to do is send in your registration fees and then send your teams information to Cavemandon via our Private Message system. We will highlight the correct link below to make it easier to get the the fee page. Below is the time schedule for each phase of registrations. It's important to know that Premium VF members will receive a $5 discount off of their team registration fees.

Early Bird Registrations: Opens at 8:00am PST on Saturday, May 4th, 2013 - Closes at 8:00am PST on Saturday, June 1st, 2013
Regular Registrations: Opens at 8:01am PST on Saturday, June 1st, 2013 - Closes at 8:00am PST on Saturday, July 13th, 2013
Late Registrations: Opens at 8:01am PST on Saturday, July 13th, 2013 - Closes at 8:00pm PST on Saturday, August 10th, 2013

Update: VF Downtime and the Future

What a week! VF went down this week for an extended time. Our Dedicated Server went down with a hardware failure (hard drive) and after replacing it, we continued to have issues. Neo (Jeff) spent many long hours into the wee hours of the morning getting things downloaded, re-uploaded, and all over again once they got us a new server (A big deal, since the content of VF is several gigs of data). Because we have a "brand new" server, there will continue to be tweaks and adjustments, unfortunately. VF Radio will remain offline for most of the following week, along with our Gallery.. Which brings me to our next topic...

The VF Gallery has always been a place for Disney friends to share their photos, videos and other media files. VF pre-dates Facebook and social sharing sites like Twitter, Photobucket, etc. While it has always been priority for us, we understand people use other methods to share their photos (like Facebook, Twitter, SMS Messaging, etc). That said, we feel it's time to retire the VF Gallery. We have the entire Gallery backed up, but our intention is to not bring it back. The interface has always been cumbersome and full of problems (issues uploading images over 2 megabytes).

Our ideas include changing VF to a combination of our current Forum and a Wordpress Bridge. Allowing us to easily post and share content, but without the limitations of the software. (The software is excellent for Forum software, we just don't feel it makes for a great way to share things quickly).

VF Radio Requests will continue, with an upcoming facelift to the interface, along with our Reviews section which we hope to expand and update.

VF Digital Scavenger Hunt 8

Can you believe we're already talking about Scavenger Hunt 8? We will begin taking registrations starting this next Saturday, May 4 at 8:00am. This event has grown in popularity since it began 8 years ago. Begun with only a handful of players, the game has been expanded and now comprises over 25 teams of two in a day-long event taking place at Disneyland on September 7th.

First off, this spring, Visions Fantastic will be holding yet another Disneyland Resort scavenger hunt. This newly designed event will be held inside Disney California Adventure and will take place on Sunday, April 7th, 2013! And it is called....

Yes, that's right... a Twitter Scavenger Hunt! Only this time, it's for bragging rights! No prizes.. Well... I wouldn't say NO prizes... The winner of this most newest of games will win a personalized, awesome, wonderful, full color, full size, two dimensional, did I say personalized, signature bar and/or avatar for use on the VF forum boards! Applause, Applause! YaY!!!

This event will be FREE of charge to enter, but will be limited to the first 25 people to sign up. The premise of this event is for individuals to scout Disney California Adventure with their cell phones for 40 strategically located items, take a picture of the item, and post them to twitter. The first person to post all 40 items the fastest will win! Simple... Straight forward... Fun... :)

If you have good ride videos (you know, without excess commentary), we would love to feature them on VF.

A couple of requirements: They need to be in WMV (Windows Media Video) or at least a format we can transfer into that format easily. Quicktime (MOV) is more difficult for us to feature on VF.

Please don't send us links to Youtube videos - we want to feature higher quality videos on VF people are able to download and enjoy.

If your video needs editing, we can take care of that as well - if you want to just send us your raw footage we can edit them if necessary. We need videos for the following attractions in the "New DCA"

I've come to this area of the site today to announce my departure from VF staff. I am officially stepping down as an Administrator and as VF's Social Media Manager.

This decision was not an easily reached one, but ultimately a necessary one. I have decided to pursue interests outside of Visions Fantastic, and cannot devote the time that staff of a site should be able to. This decision is completely mine, and in know way reflects on VF. In fact, I'd like to personally thank Chris for giving me the opportunities he has, along with staff and other VF members who have supported me throughout the years. I've come to call many of you friends, and that won't change.

I would like to add, that while I'm stepping down as a staff member, I'll still be around, so feel free to drop a message whenever, and I hope to engage in thoughtful discussions as a member.

Registrations for the 7th Annual VF Scavenger Hunt are now closed. Thank to all the teams for joining and I hope that you will enjoy the event!

Event Rules

This event will take place inside the Disneyland Resort on Saturday, September 8th, 2012 starting at 8:30 am with the awards ceremony between 6:00 - 7:00pm. All teams are to meet in the picnic area to the left side of Disneyland’s main entrance at 7:30 am for event check in. Then at or near 8:15 am, the teams will be given their VF Digital Scavenger Hunt game booklets. These booklets will contain cropped photos and a list of other items that are located throughout Disneyland. Your booklet will also contain a mystery hunt who's details you'll find out on the day of the event. The teams will search the park for all of these items and take a digital picture of there items.

Now this is a game for a team consisting of two people with at least one of them a current member of Visions Fantastic in good standing. Only the two people on the team may search the park looking for the items. Visions Fantastic staff and event volunteers will be scouting the park for teams that are asking for help from anyone else, including Cast Members. Again, this is prohibited. All event rules must be strictly adhered to. Any team found to be deviating from any these rules will immediately be disqualified and have their Scavenger Hunt booklets removed from their possession. If you have any questions regarding the Scavenger Hunt, please PM Cavemandon prior to sending him your player information.


The current fee is $30 per two-person team. (VF Premium Members receive a $5 discount on regular and late registration prices). After July 27th, we enter "late registration" and which point the fee increases to $35 per team.

Prizes, along with the Gideon Elliot Stuart Memorial Award, will be announced at a later date.

I'm in need of two people that would like to help the staff of VF by testing the upcoming Scavenger Hunt. The actual testing date has not been determined yet, but it will be held on a Thursday (since that's my day off). Testing of the game will include a full complete run through from start to finish, so this will be an all day event (8am to 5:00pm'ish) Obviously you will need to provide your own way into the park. The will only be held inside Disneyland so a park hopper will not be required.

Contestants will submit their voices for various VF Radio announcements. The ones we pick will win a free 1-year Premium Membership and be heard on VF Radio Requests!

Now, for some official rules:

1. Contestants must submit 3 sound files of the three different promos. Submitting less than 3 sound files makes you ineligible for the contest. We will chose one selection from each of the 3 categories (3 Premium Memberships will be awarded)

2. Contestants must not use any background music, sound effects or voice altering, pitch adjustment, etc. (background music may be added later for use on the Radio, but please, keep the audio strictly your own voice for now)

3. No direct impersonations; (i.e. "Hi, this is Walt Disney, Mickey Mouse", etc. These are trademarked 'voices' and cannot be used on our Radio Requests). Now, if you want to do a voice 'inspired' by a character, as long as it's not overly obvious, it's probably okay.

4. Again, it must be YOUR OWN VOICE. You cannot have your 'friend' record it for you. Once the contest is completed, you may be asked to re-record your product with some small changes.

5. Once you have submitted your material to VF, you release all claims to it. You will not be re-reimbursed, paid or compensated in any way for your material submitted.

6. Submitted files can be in WAV (preferred), MP3 or WMA. You can mail your submissions to chris@visionsfantastic.com or you can upload them to your VF Gallery space and send us a link to your material.

7. Deadline for submissions is Monday, June 20th (midnight). We will not take submissions after that time. You can only submit once - so make sure you're happy with the finished product.

8. We will announce the winners soon afterward, depending on the number of entries. If one particular user wins all three categories, they will receive additional years of Premium Membership (up to 3 years).

9. Judging will be done by VF Staffers; Chris, DaddyB, Cavemandon and Neo. The clips with the highest number of votes will be awarded winners.

Volunteers will be needed for a number of tasks including but not limited to:

Assisting teams at the event check in, judging, assigned spots throughout the park assist the teams, event runners, game testing, attraction attendees, etc. Details about exact times and locations of all volunteer positions will be given later.

It's suggested that anyone wanting to assist this year send me a PM letting me what times you would be available to volunteer and what you would like to do. There are a limited amount of spots available for event volunteers so get your name in to me as soon as you can. All volunteers will need to provide their own admission to Disneyland Park, parking, food, etc. We ask that volunteers be at least 18 years of age or older for liability and safety reasons.

It's safe to say that most volunteers will need to report to the picnic area at the Disneyland Resort prior to the 8:00am team check in to get their assignments. So if you want to enjoy being part of the hunt, but don't think you'll be able to enter a team, get your information to me to be part of the VF Digital Scavenger Hunt.

As I prepare to close this show, I would like so say a few words. I have been part of the Visions Fantastic family for almost ten years now, starting back at the Disneyland Source and beyond. We have joked around and had our best moments, and we have had our differences, and yes, we are heading our separate ways at this time, but that does not diminish the fact that I am very proud of our accomplishments and our work over the years. Leaving the Visions Fantastic Staff is an incredibly challenging step I am about to undertake, but it is a necessary one for my both my continued advancement and development, and for Visions Fantastic's own mission. To those who have truly enjoyed my programming over the years, please do not fret. I'll still be elsewhere online, and I'll still be making music and other content, just not this one specific show. Spanning 83 episodes, by show's end, this program will have reached over 48 hours in runtime, many many more if you consider my numerous live broadcasts throughout the years over VF Radio, the Historical Spotlights, videos, and other projects. Event Rules

This event will take place inside the Disneyland Resort on Saturday, September 10th, 2011 starting at 8:30 am with the awards ceremony around 7:00pm. All teams are to meet in the picnic area to the left side of Disneyland’s main entrance at 7:30 am for event check in. Then at or near 8:15 am, the teams will be given their VF Digital Scavenger Hunt game booklets. These booklets will contain cropped photos and a list of other items that are located throughout Disneyland. Your booklet will also contain a mystery hunt who's details you'll find out on the day of the event. The teams will search the park for all of these items and take a digital picture of there items.

* = Park admission is not included in your registration. You are responsible for entry into Disneyland, along with all associated costs (parking, food, beverages, etc). No items will be located inside Disney's California Adventure, so you will NOT need to purchase a Park Hopper ticket. However, there is a chance that we will try to get a group to go into DCA after the event for a meal or the go on some attractions.

Now this is a game for a team consisting of two people with at least one of them a current member of Visions Fantastic in good standing. Only the two people on the team may search the park looking for the items. Visions Fantastic staff and event volunteers will be scouting the park for teams that are asking for help from anyone else, including Cast Members. Again, this is prohibited. All the rules listed below must be strictly adhered to. Any team found to be deviating from any these rules will immediately be disqualified and have their Scavenger Hunt booklets removed from their possession. Please make sure that you fully understand these rules before submitting your entry. If you have any questions regarding the Scavenger Hunt, please PM Cavemandon prior to sending him your player information.


  1. You must locate the items listed in the booklet and take digital photos of them. Only one item will count in each picture and you must get EXACTLY what is asked for, not something similar.
  2. Points are awarded for each correct photo of an item taken. The different point values can be located at the front of each section.
  3. Before starting the event, the first photo you take will be of your team and that photos' file name shall be written at the top of your teams score card. DaddyB will be taking a photo of your team when you check in, but the first photo on your camera must be of you.
  4. Teams are allowed to use one (1) digital camera and one (1) single removable memory card. There will be NO exceptions! (See Rule 8 Below)
  5. No cell phone or non-removable memory card type cameras may be used at any time.
  6. Only one (1) flash memory card may turned in per team, so make sure you have enough room on it. Again, there will be NO exceptions.
  7. The above stated removable flash memory card will be turned in, along with the teams booklet and score card team check in times. The cards will be returned to the players after the judging has been concluded.
  8. All photos on these memory cards become the property of Visions Fantastic and will be deleted from the card before they are returned to the teams. If anyone wants to use a secondary camera for the purpose of documenting the days events, they can do so provided they notify myself upon checking in. A note will be placed on the roster. But remember that only one card can be turned in. No photos may be taken of the team booklet or it's contents on this secondary camera.
  9. Any team that does not check in at the designated check in times/area will automatically be disqualified from the event.
  10. No photos may be taken on or in any area where it is clearly stated NO PHOTOGRAPHY or NO FLASH PICTURES. Any photo found to be taken from these areas will not be awarded any points, regardless if they are correct. To note, there are no items located where these rules apply.
  11. Some items, however, may or may not be located in an area where the above photography rules does not apply. In fact, there are some items that can only be found while in an attractions queue area or on an attraction.
  12. All items are located inside the Disneyland Park. No items are located inside Disney's California Adventure or Downtown Disney.
  13. No team may ask for or receive any assistance from anyone at anytime including but not limited to Disneyland Cast Members, family members at the park, or any other Disneyland park guest at anytime during the event. Any team found to be asking for or receiving assistance will have their team score card and booklet confiscated. Teams will be provided hand outs that they can give out to other park guests explaining the event and why you, the event teams, may not talk to them. If in the event that you run out of these hand outs, you may get more from the event staff located at the Plaza Gardens.
  14. Besides your single digital camera, no other electronic devises may be used at any time during the event. These items include cell phones, PDA devices, walkie-talkies, GPS units, portable laptops, microwave ovens, weed-eaters, time machines, etc. Any team found to be using any of these banned items during the event will have their team booklet and score card confiscated and be disqualified. If you are in procession of any of these banned items, they must be turned off at all times during the event. Cell phones may be used during the afternoon break and must be turned back off when you return to the game.
  15. All teams must obey any and all Disneyland Resort rules and regulations. Teams may not enter any area that normal park guests may not go. Disney is being very courteous to Visions Fantastic by allowing us to hold this event. Please don't ruin the chance of future events being help there.
  16. Above all other rules listed above, we ask that you PLEASE do not interfere with other Disneyland Resort park guests at any time. Don't ruin their day by cutting in front of them to get a photo of something. All it takes is one park guest to complain about a team pushing them out of the way to take a picture of something.
  17. As a participant of this Digital Scavenger Hunt IV, you are acting as a member of Visions Fantastic. Please act in a way that reflects professionalism and pride in your website.

This year the per team fees will be $25 for early registration, $30 regular registration, and $35 for late registration.

Second, we have decided to award prizes to only the top four teams with the first place prize being two (2) $100 Disney gift cards with a surprise added. Based on previous events, in order to offer Disneyland Deluxe Annual Passes, we would have to substantially raise the price of registration, which we didn't feel comfortable with. Other prizes, along with the Gideon Elliot Stuart Memorial Award, will be announced later as well.

Again, event details are still in the planning stages but we will be post them as soon as we possibly can.

As some of you may know, Bloomin' Cockroachers and I are planning our wedding for next year. We are going with a World of Color theme and have most of the details planned out, however we need some help designing our save the date, invitation, program and thank you cards. This is where you come in, we are asking the artists of the VF community to help us with some of the designs. Below is a list of some of our ideas, however feel free to make up your own designs as we would love to see what everyone can come up with.

We would like the theme to be kept Disney and World of Color, this is one thing that should be kept at the top of the priority list. We have seen several designs and really love the idea of a fastpass for the save the dates. As for the invitations let your imagination run wild with the theme.

We will be announcing prizes at a later date and they will be based on the number of people who respond. All entries should be in PSD or other editable format so we can change any wording/dates/times/names that we need to, no JPG or GIF images. And remember VF guidelines still apply and only submit your own work.

Over the past couple months we've been trying to update this section with new games like Disney Potpourri Trivia and re-upping some of the others, such as Jeopar-Disney and The VF Picture Battle, just to name a few. Keeping the games fresh and fun can be quite a challenge - an unanswered question or turn will stall a game and keep people from joining in. Therefore, some rules have been set in place regarding times to answer turns, not following up on questions, etc. in order to keep things flowing.

One important factor that is missing, however, is feedback from you, our VF members. So Now I am asking you for just that. Do you play any games in the Fun & Games section? Have you checked it out at all? Are there sections or games you really like? Are there things that could be done to improve? Games you would like to see added? Other rules that you believe would help things flow more?

I welcome all feedback, suggestions, and constructive criticism here in order to keep the Fun & Games section in VF going strong, and would like to start a good conversation in that vein. Please post any thoughts here, or if you feel the need to share privately, feel free to PM me as well.

Now simply click on your own name to see your profile. Under your name is "Status Update". Simply click EDIT and include your own status update, click save and you're done! This can also be done on messages you've posted on the boards.

Note: To let everyone know, there have been no staff changes at VF - all current staff will continue to do their own duties.

Criteria required:

1. At least 1 year registered member with VF.
2. At least 100 posts
3. Age 18 or older.
4. Clear Record (no infractions, warnings, etc).

If you are interested, please contact me directly via PM and include the following:

1. Write a short paragraph about why you'd like to become a VF Staff member and possibly share any experiences you'd had with VF members (maybe you helped somebody find a particular thread, etc).

What's most important here is that you can relate to people in a positive manner and help keep VF a fun place to be.

Whether this is possible or not, I don't know.

But to have a newsletter sent to everyone who subscribes, you could talk about the top news stories, new podcasts, new songs added to the radio, hot threads, anything really.

I just thought of this idea. I'm always thinking how VF could improve an already awesome site. :)

You can submit any website to the Directory - it does not need to be your own website. Keep in mind, if you submit another website and they wish to have their link removed or their description changed, they have this option.

To minimize spam, all submissions are moderated and must be approved before they are posted. Our guidelines for the link directory are as follows:

1. Websites linked to in the Link Directory must be in good taste, family friendly and must not violate any VF guidelines (copyrighted materials, abusive language).

2. All submissions are subject to editing by VF staff, and entries may be altered or removed by website owners.

3. Websites listed must have content and cannot be "link farms" or "under construction" pages.

4. Only one submission per website (domain). Website owners take precedence over VF Member submissions.

5. Abuse to the link directory may result in action taken against your VF account (banning, suspension, etc).

6.
