Hello VF!!

It's been about two months since the D23 Expo. Two months truly fly by and with so much stuff going on in my life and DE's "life", I'll admit that it was pretty tough to push out 3 days worth of content FAST. We're relatively small when it comes to writers and staffers, so I always make it a point to write and edit these Wrap Up reports myself. I remember when we left the Anaheim Convention Center for the last time during the Expo, the first thing I thought of when I got into my car was "Oh, no...I have to write about ALL this!!"

Honestly! It really is a daunting task to put together a large report that consists of in-depth detail and news over the course of 3 days AND do it in a way to make it fun and entertaining for all of you, our readers. So first of all, I'd like to apologize to all our fans out there and here on VF for the lag in stories over the past couple months. We appreciate all your guys' patience and support as we were continually straining toward the goal of finishing our D23 Expo Wrap Up. We know it took long, but we hope that this "Part DEUX" made your waiting worth your while!

We stuffed quite a few things in here, including more EXCLUSIVE news about Buena Vista Street, the making of STours: The Adventures Continue, and of course the NEW films that are coming out from Walt Disney Studios!

There's quite a lot of reading to be had, so get on it! But don't forget to enjoy it too!

We also updated our Snippet section, giving you what's going on as of last week - we'll talk about Christmas @ Disneyland, the AP Soundsational Parade Event, and much, much more!

Anything enticing so far? I thought not. So before you head to either one of our new articles, here's an excerpt from our D23 Expo Wrap-Up --

(picking up from some Imagineers talking about Buena Vista Street, the new entrance to DCA) -

If you remember Sunshine Plaza, you remember that if you stood in the plaza itself next to the sun “hubcap”, you’d always see Disneyland and its features (the summit of the Matterhorn, Main Street Train Station, etc.). To Imagineers, this brought you out of the STORY. They wanted to make sure that every element of design focus around that, so in doing so, they put the Hub to the left of the actual Street as you come down. That way (as you can see in the above REAL photo taken directly from the construction site), you can see that you no longer see any visible indication that Disneyland is there…well besides the Matterhorn, but they assured us once the new facades go up, it will be gone and you’re left in pure STORY of the new DCA. Incredible detail.

The photo also shows the new Buena Vista Street Fountain, a fountain designed after a real fountain found at the headquarters of Los Angeles Department of Water and Power.

Hey VF!

Hope all is well with ALL of you! Apologies for the delay in the rest of our D23 Expo wrap up, but I will be posting it later on next week for you all to enjoy! I promise, it will be a "MARVEL"ous report...

Anyways! I wanted to share a quick update that comes in the form of a video. I had the opportunity to go to opening day of the new Paradise Park eateries in DCA - Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta and Paradise Garden Grill. Both offer different offerings that is sure to satisfy any appetite. Our videographer Marcos Payan (who does ALL of the DE videos and who does an excellent on every single one of them) put together a visual montage of the various offerings. I promise you'll get hungry after watching, so I encourage all of you to head out to DCA and try these new restaurants!

We also did a full wrap up report on the specifics and our reviews of the food on opening day, which can be found by clicking HERE. We meet a lot of the food managers and supervisors that were dining with us that day as well and because of our reviews, they actually changed the way they servered their pizzas! COOL HUH?! Gives us more credibility, so read on! :D

Enjoy the article and video. Il cibo è ottimo!

Best,

Hey VF!

Jordie here again! It's certainly been an awesome honor to be reporting here to all of you...believe you me, this here writing space is valuable to me and is about to be filled with magic!

That's right...magic! It's been a little over a week since the D23 Expo, but I certainly hope you guys didn't forget it! For those of you who attended, you know what I'm talking about! For those of you who couldn't, that's ok because that's what websites like DisneyExaminer and VF are for - to immerse you in the Disney magic wherever you go!

So without any further adieu, I'd like to present a day-to-day recap on what DE did at the D23 Expo this year! Here's an excerpt from that wrap up report - my encounter with Destini!

* * *

Those were some of the highlights from the Carousel of Projects. There were also models of Shanghai Disney Resort and Aulani, but that was pretty much it! One thing I just happened to stumble upon was Destini…

That’s DEST-EE-NEE.

Who is Destini? Think Esmerelda the Fortune Teller on Main Street for the 21st Century! How? Well he analyses you.

Basically what that screen shows is that through cameras and motion detectors, Destini (aka an AI) can communicate with you! As he is still in the testing stages, It is really cool that he can actually interact with you, as if he was a person. Scary, I know but I got the chance to have Destini himself show me my fortune, which can be seen below! You’ll be able to see how solid he is with his conversation with me. I promise there is NO person doing a voice behind a curtain…nothing! He’s a self-sustaining AI.

**You can see that video by checking out the whole wrap up report on our main site by clicking HERE.**

Destini was so cool, he made me do this face!!
* * *

And that's only a portion of the D23 Expo we got to experience and now are bringing to you! Be sure to check out the rest of the events we attended on Day 1 of the Expo that include the Disney Legends Awards Ceremony AND the Walt Disney Parks and Resorts presentation that is filled with the latest news about Cars Land and some new experiences coming to Disneyland next year!!

All that and more can be seen in our full wrap up report which can be found by clicking HERE!

Remember this is only Day 1 folks! Day 2 will be "MARVEL"ous...

Poppin' on Broadway!

Mary has landed at Segerstrom Center for a limited stay!

I had the opportunity of going to watch the stage production of Mary Poppins at SoCal’s premier performing arts establishment, Segerstrom Center last Thursday, 7/14.

It was a great show, but I had my concerns, which we’ll get to at a later on. Before I start my review on the show, I did want to review the place where me and my parents had dinner prior to the show itself.

Leatherby’s Cafe Rouge, located within a venue at the Segerstrom Center, is my recommend place to grab a delicious meal before any show. The menu is simple and revolves around traditional American cuisine, with a hint of asian flare if you ask me. The chef, Ross Pangilinan, is Filipino and his take on American dishes like the dish I had, is simply respectable and stunning.

The Duo of Beef entree. $34.

Yes the place is pricey, but at the end of the day if you want to have a night on the town with anyone, this is the place to feast at before your show. Oh, might as well mention that you get 10% off your total bill if you are watching a show the night you dine. Just show your ticket!

On to the show!

It was opening night for the show, but it was a Thursday and it really wasn’t a packed house…so we moved up some seats (with permission, of course)!

To be totally honest and straightforward, I did find that the first part of the show was a little…boring? It might have well been that we ate just a couple hours prior and that the food was catching up with us, but reflecting afterwards, I would say that acting and new renditions of the song just didn’t click with me. I did quietly whisper away at the ‘ol favorites like “Jolly Holiday (with Mary)”, and “A Spoonful of Sugar”, and that’s what gave it it’s high points throughout.

I really do think the magic really does reveal itself in the second act. As this is a Disney stage production, there had to be some type of magic somewhere! The energy picks up, the acting and dancing moves with each song. I don’t want to spoil this part with you too much as always, but I promise you, you’ll start asking yourself how or just be speechless, especially Bert’s part when they sing “Step in Time”. Pure Disney Magic and Song.

All in all, I did like the show very much. I’d have to say that the Lion King production is still at the top of my all-time favorite Disney Broadway productions, but Mary can join the ranks too.

Like always, I urge you all to be your own judge and see it for yourselves! That’s what I did. And if you think that Broadway plays are pricey too, think again! Disney sent me an email that details some extreme discounts for shows at Segerstrom Center right here in the middle of SoCal in Costa Mesa. Take a look below!

Now you have no excuse to go…seats starting at $15!

Thanks for a magical time, Ms. Poppins!

Mary Poppins will remain at Segerstrom Center in Costa Mesa until August 7, with shows every Tuesday through Sunday!

* * *

Oh, and just a quick disclaimer and recommendation - DO NOT WATCH the MARY POPPINS MOVIE BEFORE YOU SEE THE STAGE SHOW!! The story has been altered a tad in the stage production, so don’t be disappointed if it doesn’t follow the movie too much.

Hey guys!

I had the honor and privilege of going to THE Walt Disney Studios/Disney HQ in Burbank today to watch an advanced screening of Winnie the Pooh, Disney's newest hand-drawn animated full length feature film since Princess and the Frog. I got the OK from my Disney rep for an early posting of this review, so here it is! Here's an excerpt of my full review on Disney's Winnie the Pooh!

Synopsis -

Walt Disney Animation Studios returns to the Hundred Acre Wood with “Winnie the Pooh.” Featuring the timeless charm, wit and whimsy of the original short films, this all-new movie reunites audiences with the philosophical “bear of very little brain” and friends Tigger, Rabbit, Piglet, Owl, Kanga, Roo—and last, but certainly not least, Eeyore, who has lost his tail. “Ever have one of those days where you just can’t win, Eeyore?” asks Pooh. Owl sends the whole gang on a wild quest to save Christopher Robin from an imaginary culprit. It turns out to be a very busy day for a bear who simply set out to find some honey. Inspired by three stories from A.A. Milne’s books in Disney’s classic, hand-drawn art style, “Winnie the Pooh” hits theaters in the U.S. on July 15, 2011.

* * *

I'm not sure that after watching this film, I would write a biased review. Why you may ask?

Just to clarify, I LOVE<strike>D</strike> Winnie the Pooh when I was a kid! I watched it on Saturday mornings on ABC and even had huge stuffed Pooh bears on my bed when I lay asleep. There was just something in me that attracted me to watching over and over again. I don't think it was the story, but the charcters. I really fell in love with the characters.

And that's what you'll do AGAIN in this feature animation film. From watching the trailer a couple months back, I was unsure what kind of appeal it would have to others. To me, it seemed a little more mature than just a kids film where Pooh and friends would come together and accomplish something in cute and funny ways. After watching a few episodes that I watched when I was a kid, I realized that for even an adult, the story told lessons. To a kid, it was entertaining and something that once in a while they'd "ponder" about and then start asking questions...like I did!

Again we jump to present day. I am all grown up and I still had this love of a bear that loves hunny - yes hunny. We had the very special opportunity to watch an advanced media screening of the film at the Walt Disney Studios (aka Disney HQ) in Burbank in the famous Frank G. Wells Screening Room.

When we arrived with Mike, we found that we were the only teen/college aged people in the whole room! The rest of the room was filled with parents and their little ones. That gave me some idea of what to expect, but not until after the first couple minutes did I realize just exactly how this film would bring me back to my "childhood days."

Can you name them from left to right?!

1) I loved the STORY.

I'm a stickler for stories. STORY STORY STORY STORY! Just like I said in my Cars 2 review, the way a movie uses moving pictures and sound together should NOT just be for the sake of being a movie, but rather to portray and tell a story.

The Winnie the Pooh film is LITERALLY a story. The beginning credits begin with a narrator (John Cleese - great choice!) showing you around the room of Christopher Robin. He sets you up with how the characters come to be, where, etc. Then a book opens up and the story begins! It's a perfect way to begin...a story!! Kids will relate to this for sure.

As you'll see throughout the film as well, the imagery of an actual story being told through film is very evident and quite an interesting and yet thoughtful way to SHOW a story!

The narrator actually reads this text as the story goes on. It's like having the screenplay visible when it's being played out. I love that attention to detail - it REALLY just brings a book story to life!

To read the rest of my Winnie the Pooh review, please click HERE and you'll be redirected to our main site. You'll also find our reviews on Cars 2 and soon, Pirates 4! They are all part of our very special section we like to call DisneyExaminer's Summer Movie Madness!

Thanks everyone! Let me know what you're most excited for with your comments below. Loving hearing what you all have to say. Thanks for your continued support!

**Oh yes, I'll be posting some pictures and video of our adventures at the Studios later on this week! Did you know that your dear DaddyB also joined us?! Check back on our main site and here soon!

Hey guys!

Hope you're all enjoying the 4th of July weekend so far! I just wanted to let everyone here on VF know that DisneyExaminer has posted their full wrap up and reviews on the new Paradise Pier eateries - Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta and Paradise Garden Grill, as well as our review on Goofy's Sky School and other things we saw during our visit Friday! We called it our Food and Flight event!

Here's an excerpt from our full article -

We decided to belly up and try 2 pastas and 2 pizzas (no salads, folks - lettuce it lettuce and not for us carnivores to review)!

Pictured above - Pasta tossed with chicken in a sun-dried tomato cream sauce. $10.

We also tried a five-cheese ravioli with basil pesto and toasted pine nuts. Also for $10.

Pictured above - Flatbread pizza topped with Portobello mushroom and spinach. $9.

We also tried the flatbread pizza topped with BBQ chicken (think California PIzza Kitchen BBQ chicken pizza). Also $9.

For dessert, we tried the only two desserts offered at this eatery - a lemoncello cheesecake and espresso-topped chocolate cake. Both are offered at $5 each.

It was really hard to decided what exactly would be the staple to BP&P. Pizza has been done before at the Resort and when you really look at it, we knew that there would be some problems when it came to flatbread pizzas. Flatbread pizzas are usually served as an appitizer at most restaurants and at that $9 price point, we found it difficult to be satisfied by it. Going back to what I said about picking and choosing pre-portioned entrees, we found that the chicken on our BBQ chicken pizza was too dry, by the mere fact that it was not picked by guests immediately after cooking and that it sat for longer than expected. Sadly, this left both pizzas we tasted with the same verdict of not-too-good.

Hello everyone!

My name is Jordie...

You may know me as the First 1st Place Winner of the VF Scavenger Hunt and...well that's it! I've been a member here on VF since the days of long ago. I've loved this community ever since and I'm sure, just like me, you've all been fans of the work they do here on VF. With some help from some close friends and inspiration from VF's own DaddyB, my love for Disney has flourished and grown to the point that I have my very own website dedicated to the spread of Disney magic beyond what we see today - and that website is DisneyExaminer.com!

I've been given the great honor of having a special place right here on VF to share the various articles we have posted on our main site for all of you to read and so I can get your feedback on what you think!

So without any further adieu, let's go flying!
We’re ready for takeoff…then shortly after, eat some airplane food…

Hey friends!

Another week is about to close, but we’re going to go out with “flying” colors! As you all may know, Disneyland Resort will be revealing their new food offerings at Paradise Pier, as well as the new re-imagined attraction Goofy’s Sky School!

We’re calling it the Food and Flight Event!

As we wrote earlier this month, DE will be there for the first food reviews from both restaurants - Paradise Garden Grill and Boardwalk Pizza and Pasta - as well as broadcast a LIVE RIDE-A-LONG as we learn how to fly with Goofy on the new attraction!
We’re VERY excited to be one of the first to bring you the newest offerings at the Resort in a whole new and unique way! This is what we do and we hope you like it!Be sure to tell your friends about this and many more offerings coming from DE before summer’s end!
