I recently...

Possible Avengers and Amazing Spider-Man spoilers ahead! If you have not seen either film, I highly recommend avoiding this thread!

I recently got the Avengers on BluRay and the number of times I watch it is definitely going up. And of course, with more movies announced, it's all only the beginning! So it makes me curious... Ignoring all the possible legal issues between film rights of characters and whatnot, what does everyone else want to see for the Marvel Cinematic Universe? Again, anything... From characters to possible movies, anything.

For my own wish...

Spider-Man as an Avenger
The top of my wishlist is absolutely Spider-Man. Of course if Sony and Disney are willing to put aside the rights issues, the second biggest problem would definitely be the whereabouts of the Avengers during the Lizard's attack, the whereabouts of Spider-Man during the Chitauri invasion. BUT, I have come up with two possible solutions...

Solution #1: Spider-Man takes place before Avengers, therefore lacking the help of the others. Some minor supporting evidence: The head of the New York Police Department is not mentioned, but it's most likely not Captain Stacey due to his death in ASM.

But it doesn't explain why Spidey is missing out during the climax. True, Peter may have been a civilian, but obviously, Spider-Man himself lacks a visible presence during such a giant attack where the team would need all the help they could get. As hinted in the beginning of ASM where Peter places a photo into a display case, it takes place during 2012, which would mean Avengers takes place in the future.

Solution #2: Spider-Man takes place after Avengers, explaining a lot more. Supporting evidence: The cranes were most likely to help reconstruct New York after the attack (I mean, the damage was HUGE!) And at the end of the Avengers, they were said to disband unless they were needed again. Nick Fury probably would have made contact with Tony Stark at the very least, but seeing as Spider-Man took care of it and that the Lizard wasn't as big of a problem as Loki and the Chitauri, Fury advised Stark to stay low while keeping an eye on Spider-Man.

Also, since it was left reeeaaally ambiguous about Peter Parker's parents (that's fun to say), the most obvious thing to say is that they died in a SHIELD-related incident... Which could be feasible, as in the comic books, they were government workers and the plane was sabotaged by the third Red Skull, Albert Malik, and the film does point to a plane accident. However, it tended to point to Curt Connors having some sort of influence to their death as they assisted him in their research. Of course, who's to say the Red Skull still had no possible involvement, working with Connors or not?

So, reviews are coming in, and I thought it's time I should add to that. When you guys get to see the movie, please, feel free to add your own...

So, reviews are coming in, and I thought it's time I should add to that. When you guys get to see the movie, please, feel free to add your own reviews! I'm just going to say now that spoilers DO appear!

As I was safely seated, Woody and Buzz came on screen, with a card reading "Toy Story Toons". Small Fry is about a mini Buzz Lightyear Fun Meal toy who notices Bonnie's bigger Buzz Lightyear she brings to the restaurant and tries to replace him. Remember all that "Who's the real Buzz?" trouble in Toy Story 2? Prepare to revisit that, but in such a new, delightful way. It's hilariously funny, and I just want to keep these Toy Story shorts coming. Biased, since I may be what Walter is to the Muppets to the Toy Story franchise, but you are simply going to love this. Appropriately, this is like the Fun Meal toy that comes with the meal. You buy the meal, and it's the pleasant surprise.

After the pleasant short film, the movie came on, the classic Muppet Show typeface, reading "The Muppets." This movie is the most direct sequel to the Muppet Movie and the Muppet Show that there is, but at the same time holds on its own. This is a minor spoiler, but I'm going to say that the contract Kermit signed at the end of the Muppet Movie becomes an important plot point, as a good part of the plot (of the Muppets' storyline) is based around that contract. With all the characters, I'd say this is not only the most character-driven Muppet movie, but the most character-driven movie I've seen in general.

The characters of Mary, Gary, and Walter just add so much to this movie, and Walter is just bound to become one of your favorites. Gary cares for his girlfriend, Mary, and brother, Walter, but his care for Walter doesn't leave enough room for Mary. So Gary helps Walter restore the Muppets, much to Mary's dismay. It's not that she doesn't like the Muppets, but Gary quickly loses sight of what they came to California for: their anniversary. Not only does Gary, but Walter does as well, and each of the brothers must choose. Is Walter going to grow up and be a man, or help out his childhood heroes and become one of them? Will Gary own up to his mistakes with Mary, or is he going to stay behind and worry about how the telethon goes?

And now for Kermit. He hasn't seen his best friends in years. His song "Pictures in My Head" sent chills down my spine, and I just challenge you not to get a little misty-eyed. I mean, it's not that often you see a guy that green with the blues that bad... I'm sorry, I couldn't resist. In this sequence (heck, even movie), we learn just how much all of his friends mean to him. Especially Miss Piggy. This movie is probably where their relationship just... shines. In the original show and the original movies, it's really played for laughs, but here... I was so surprised that a felt frog and a felt pig could moved me so well.

Chris Cooper does an amazing job as Tex Richman, and this character is definitely going down in Muppet history with Doc Hopper. The only problem I had with Tex Richman was that on several places on advertising for the movie, it says somewhere that the Muppets caused some sort of trauma for him as a child, and that just made him seem a little thin to me.

The soundtrack is spot-on. "Life's a Happy Song" is Oscar-fodder, and "Pictures in My Head" has potential to go against it. "Pictures" is one that really made me teary-eyed, but I tried to resist, as a lot of recent movies have broken me (I used to have eyes of steel!). I barely made it out of that one, but then we get to the new rendition of "Rainbow Connection." And not the one done by the Moopets half an hour into the film, which is something of a self-parody, but the one towards the end of the film on the Muppet Theater stage. I would LOVE to talk about it more, but it's just something you have to go see for yourself. Whether or not you grew up with these guys, it's pretty likely you'll cry. Also, as noted by the trailers, the opening sequence is entirely recreated. Lavender arches and all. It's just a total nostalgia trip.

The cameos are well-done, and this movie is just filled to the brim with them. It's not the Muppets without any cameos! Some of the cameos were very blink-and-you'll-miss-it for me, but the ones I caught were fun.

I suppose that may be it for now. If I think of anything, I will certainly add it. In the meantime, feel free to add your thoughts.

Many skilled professionals use their talents to work on what is almost certainly the pirate Blackbeard's Queen Anne's Revenge ( QAR ) shipwreck. We hope you will learn more about the people who make this project possible.
In 1997, under the direction of the Underwater Archaeology Branch of the North Carolina Division of Archives and History, archaeologists began exploring, documenting, and recovering archaeological remains at the Queen Anne's Revenge shipwreck site.

I know lots 'n lots of folks around here & several other people who've gotten a change to go online or gone to see a recent movie at the theatre...

I know lots 'n lots of folks around here & several other people who've gotten a change to go online or gone to see a recent movie at the theatre can't help but be excited for the new "Muppets" movie coming in November. It's without a doubt the most hyped movie of the year & many people who grew up with these funny fellas are giddy with joy whenever a new trailer or poster advertising the film is released. I myself have grown up with the Muppets gang ever since I was an infant watching some of the old Muppet preschool videos & as I grew older, I got a chance to watch some of their earlier material & realized how genius Jim Henson was at writing these characters. I was also excited whenever I got a chance to watch any of the Muppet Movies from the original Muppet Movie all the way along to Muppets From Space (I know this movie isn't as well received as the earlier films but I still kinda like it).

Unfortunately since Muppets From Space was such a huge financial & critical disappointment, the popularity of Henson's creations waned & were stuck for many years appearing as guest stars on television shows & their only movies were made for TV films like Letters To Santa & Muppets Wizard of Oz. I was so worried that these characters would fade far away into the Disney archives & never be heard from again when suddenly...... a man named Jason Segel came along & wanted to bring the Muppets back into the limelight in a project Jim Henson (R.I.P.) would hopefully be proud of.

After years of waiting, we finally got to see the first teaser trailer for The Muppets in front of Pirates 4 & it was a dream had come true. PEOPLE WERE TALKING ABOUT MUPPETS AGAIN! It was as if we were returning to the day & age when Jim Henson wanted to make a new Muppet movie every few years! Months slowly passed in anticipation as new trailers & posters were being revealed to the public. It seemed like success was in the bag for our old friends.

And now here we are, a month away from opening day but now here I am finally getting to the point of this thread (sorry if it seems like I'm dragging on too long, guys). Last night I was surfing the web when I discovered this little article that kinda took me off guard:

http://blogs.indiewire.com/theplayli...ir_names_off_/

Now I don't know how valid the article is as I don't usually go on sites like this, for all we know the publisher might've embellished the story just a tad. Still, the fact that the Muppets performers who have performed these characters from their heyday until now might be upset with the new movie and considered taking their names off the credits is a very disturbing thought indeed. Just reading about "the person who controls Kermit"'s dissatisfaction with the final result breaks my heart.

But like I said, maybe this is just a weird story that was created to stir the cauldron for an extremely hyped-up movie.

I just felt like sharing this with you folks on here to see what your thoughts are & to see if this maybe makes anyone less excited for the movie. Honestly I think I'll give it a chance because I don't listen to too many critics nowadays & feel that we should be our own critics.

Thanks for reading, VF!

This was the first time I had the opportunity to watch it, and during the last fight scene before the Spanish destroyed the fountain of youth, and when the Missionary escaped to meet his new girlfriend, someone helped him to cut the rope. That person looked like Keira (Elizabeth Swan) Knightley. She only appears for a second or two, and I even played back that scene. It definitely looked like Knightley to me.

We all know that "Pinocchio", "Fantasia", and "Bambi" did not do too well at the box office on their releases, thanks to World War II. But what if there had not been a war? Would any of them have done better then? Personally, considering all the time and effort they had put into them, I think "Pinocchio" in particular would have done very well, possibly even outdoing "Snow White", which was what Walt had tried to do with these films in the first place. Certainly, I think the critics reacted just as favorable to "Pinocchio" as they did to "Snow White". I don't know about "Fantasia" or "Bambi", but "Pinocchio" certainly would have done well had it not been for the war.

What are your thoughts?

In the book "Mouse Under Glass", we are treated to numerous plot holes in Disney movies. Actually, while some of them are legitimate, most others are just nitpicks about the movies' seeming inconsistencies that seem to bother the author David Koenig, who, in talking about "plot holes" seems to give off a lot of woulda-coulda-shouldas. In any case, here's a list of some of these so-called "plot holes":

In Pinocchio:
Shouldn't Pinocchio turn into a wooden donkey?

In Lady and the Tramp:
Amazingly, when Lady is introduced as a Christmas present, she doesn't fall limply out of the giftbox in need of resuscitation - the giftbox has no air holes.

I have taken those from the book, but I would think it'd be equally fun to see if we can't find some "plot holes" of our own. What do you think?

So the trailer was released with On Stranger Tides, which totally took me by surprise. It looked like this big family-romantic-drama-thingy, and then it said "with Kermit the Frog and Miss Piggy", and by then we were all like Applause, Applause!, with even more Applause, Applause! when they unveiled the title.

So what are your thoughts on the new movie? Which Muppets are you excited to see back on the big screen?

This is going to be such a blast!

Hello everyone! I have a question for you so I hope you can help me :mickey:
I'm only 14, but my biggest dream is to be an animator and work at Walt Disney Animation studios. But there's a problem, I'm portuguese, so I live in Europe. Do you know if international people can also work at Disney? I really want to be an animator, but here in Portugal, people don't even know the meaning of animation, so I need to go to another country with good animation studios. So my first thought was Disney. Can anyone answer my question please?

Baltimore City Paper
ImageMovers’ newest animated movie has its heart in the right place, and thankfully for those who dig the new fad of being given snazzy glasses upon entering the theater, its heart comes through in Disney Digital 3D. Mars Needs Moms relies on our emotional connection to 9-year-old Milo (voiced by Seth Green), a little boy desperately trying to save his mother and tell her that he loves her. Considering that said tyke has to run around a foreign planet, dodge lasers, and infiltrate the security of a colony of militaristic Martians, you’ll end up smiling a few times whether you like it or not. But only a few times.

Milo’s determination is charming, but much of the movie seems drawn out and lackluster. As expected, there are some clever cultural references en route. Though it provides a few grins and some moments of that warm-and-fuzzy feeling, we’re left thinking that Mars is lacking style and substance as well as maternity

Bard’s tale gets the lawn-ornament treatment in Gnomeo and Juliet.

Variety
Cranky neighbors Miss Montague (voiced by Julie Walters) and Mr. Capulet (Richard Wilson) are unaware that their personal feud is being enacted on a smaller scale by the gnomes that populate their respective gardens.

Shakespeare with lawn ornaments turns out to be an unexpectedly winning proposition in Gnomeo & Juliet, which restages the Bard's tragedy as a romantic comedy set in the secret world of garden gnomes. Offering a welcome dose of honest silliness at a time when most family-oriented toons settle for smart-alecky, this long-gestating Disney release may be hobbled by middling early buzz, a so-so 3D conversion and a marketing push that doesn't entirely sell its eccentric charms. Still, it's the sort of pleasingly goofy diversion that could grow an audience if given the chance.

Set up at Walt Disney Feature Animation in 2005 through Rocket Pictures, the imprint of exec producer Elton John (who contributed new and classic tunes to the soundtrack), Gnomeo & Juliet was initially shelved under the new toon regime of John Lasseter before being passed on to the now-defunct Miramax. Six years after its inception, the film is being released as the first G-rated production under Disney's Touchstone banner.

Yet despite all its foster parents (as well as a script and story credited to a kitchen-crowding nine writers), this pint-sized, de-iambicized fairy tale emerges an enjoyable piece of whimsy whose ridiculous premise — think "West Side Story" with porcelain puppets and British accents — is somehow sustained from wobbly start to happy finish. While unlikely to be remembered as an artistic or commercial pinnacle in animation, the film nonetheless disarms with its sparkling vocal turns, adroit balance of humor and emotion, and an engaging visual style that's all of a piece.

I like to play games. I like to play games involving Disney. I like to play games involving Disney MUSIC. After so many times playing "Name that Disney Tune" with friends I notice things- No one gets Pixar's right! Now, to tell you the truth, we play with cards. So it's not like I'm asking my friends from my memory, 'cause even I got all the Pixar ones one. Now it comes down to my big question. Disney is big in the animation business, we always say this. BUT! Are they [perfect] in animation- plain an simple, or big in the business cause they are famous. The finer details is just that Pixar is mainly known for it's [near perfect] animation.

So, are Disney films recognized for music and family friendly as Pixar is for animation and family friendly? Or is Disney both?

Or am I simply looking into this too much. Just try. Next time you hear a Disney or Pixar song, try to think of it before searching for it. Probably 70+%, if you can't remember it, it's probably a song from a Pixar film.

My biggest outlier in this equation is: Pixar doesn't always use special songs for films. They licensed some music. So, sometimes they will be thrown off. Still, all of the songs I use in my game is only movie specific or single movie created. (How did you want me to call it?!)

Tell me your opinions, I'd love to hear your thoughts.

i liked last year's Prep and Landing (which btw is playing on ABC on the 9th of Dec), but i only had one complaint: it was short. But, it still managed to be satisfying, and funny. However, THIS time, it was WAAAy too short. The way I see it, theres some quick drama, a few problems, boom- finished. The jokes (if there were any) weren't really that funny; I might have gotten one chuckle out of this one. I've definitely seen better, more hilarious shorts from Pixar; I dont think it would be too hard for them to format one to the Holiday season.

SOOOooo....I was sorely dissapointed by this years prep and landing short.

What do you guys think? (also, it may be on hulu for those who havent watched it yet)

Ever since buying out animation...

'Tangled' Review

'Tangled' Review

Cinema Blend
Ever since buying out animation rival Pixar and putting their lot in with the company's CGI-animated, boy-dominated and masterful films, Disney has tiptoed away from the kind of lavish musical adaptations of fairy tales that brought them renewed glory in the early 90s. Last year's The Princess and the Frog was a nostalgic attempt at turning back the clock, but it seemed more like a relic from the earlier golden age than an actual comeback.

But just when we thought all was lost for little girls who wanted to be witty and tough princesses instead of Buzz Lightyear or Nemo, here comes Tangled, a clever and shiny and deliriously funny take on the classic princess genre, with rousing songs from Alan Menken, a splendid voice cast and a gigantic heart that proves an irresistible combination. Unlike the Shrek franchise, which skewered fairy tales with a sometimes brutal sarcasm, Tangled tweaks the classic Rapunzel story by basically abandoning all but the basics, creating a road movie crammed with adventure, coming-of-age lessons and, of course, a romance. Even packaged with the familiar messages of learning to stand up for yourself and realizing your true potential, Tangled is winningly clever and original.

Without ever striving too hard to feel hip and current, and avoiding pop culture references to everyone's benefit, Tangled possesses a frank modernity, from its weapon-wielding heroine to its embrace of silly yet gut-busting gags. Co-directors Nathan Greno and Byron Howard make confident, funny and warm films like this seem effortless, when we know from a decade of Disney's animated disappointments that it's anything but. As has been said, it's a tale as old as time — or at least Hollywood — but telling it this well, and with such grace, makes Tangled a genuine and special achievement.

OK. I haven't been able to find a thread for this:

You know the burning thought in your mind. A giant scrapbook like container holding more than 150 DVDs with all Disney and Pixar animation! I found this site (Edit: Link removed) selling something like that. I don't want to trust the site. Reviews are nice, but for something like that, 8 reviews isn't much to sway my opinion to like this site. Also, $61 shipping is outrageous! And the idea of getting all these films for only $150 excluding shipping, again is outrageously low. The Disney website sells something like this but for different "films." It's $500! That seems more reasonable.

I understand I can find each DVD individually, but making something just a little easier and keep everything in one place. I would just like to find all the Classic Golden Age, Second Golden Age, current, and Pixar films. i'm not asking for an imagineering of this. I'm asking if anyone knows a good site or store that has something like this- sans Pixar is OK. The person i'm looking to get it for isn't the largest Pixar fan in the world. Most classic Disney Animation.

I've decided to do a thread on something I found in David Koenig's book, "Mouse Under Glass": the Top 10 Disney Oddities. I actually embellished and updated parts of the actual text to have it more up to date (it was made in 1997). Anyway, here's the first oddity:

#1: Prince Charming Disease
For some reason, the prince seems to always be the blandest character in Disney movies. Snow White's Prince Charming was so boring, his previously-planned action scenes were deleted, and after a brief hello, he disappears until the closing scene. Cinderella's, Aurora's and Ariel's respective princes are no more exciting. As a result, while you can be sure of seeing a mess of little girls dressed in various princess outfits (like Snow White's or Cinderella's), you won't see too many little boys sporting Prince Charming's tights. Likewise, you won't see too many cast members at the Disney parks in prince costumes.
Maybe it's just they're overshadowed by the marvelous Disney villains who typically steal the show. Or maybe it dates by the archetypal Disney nice guy, Mickey Mouse himself, who became so popular during the 1930s that the Disney staff became more and more restricted in what the public would allow them to do with their hero. So while Donald and Goofy were getting into all kinds of incredible adventures, Mickey was content to just sit on the porch and read the evening paper.
You have to wonder if Aladdin lost his edge after he married Jasmine.

Anyway, that's the first oddity; look for more at a later date. Until then, what do you think?

So I was watching this tonight with my kids and noticed something odd...

The Beast is given til his 21st birthday to have someone fall in love with him and break the spell. However, as the song says, "10 years we have been rusting.... needing so much more than dusting!" If the Beast has not yet hit his 21st bday yet (until the end of the film) we can assume he's toward the end of his 20th year. So that would mean that the he was turned into a beast when he was near the end of his 10th year! He obviously doesn't look 10 in the stain-glass story book in the beginning!! Kind of strange!! Do you think they meant he had until his 31st bday?

(on a side note... where the heck did Chip come from? Mom looks like Grandma, and Chip looks younger than 10. Was he born a cup?! haha!!)

Sherman, the astoundingly prolific, Academy Award®-winning songwriting team that defined family musical entertainment for five decades with unforgettable songs like “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocous” from Mary Poppins, “I Wanna Be Like You” from The Jungle Book and the most translated song ever written "It’s a Small World (After All)" from the Disneyland attraction. The feature-length documentary, conceived, produced and directed by two of the songwriters’ sons, take audiences behind the scenes of the Hollywood magic factory and offers a rate glimpse of a unique creative process at work. It also explores a deep and longstanding rift that has kept the brothers personally estranged throughout much of their unparalleled professional partnership.

For ten weeks in 1941, Walt Disney, his wife Lilly, and sixteen colleagues from his studio visited nations in Latin America to gather story material for a series of films with South American themes. The feature documentary film Walt & El Grupo uses this framing device to explore inter-American relations, provide a rare glimpse into the artists who were part of the magic of Disney’s “golden age” and give an unprecedented look at the 39 year-old Walt Disney during one of the most challenging times of his entire life.

By the mid-1980s, the fabled animation studios of Walt Disney had fallen on hard times. The artists were polarized between newcomers hungry to innovate and old timers not yet ready to relinquish control. These conditions produced a series of box-office flops and pessimistic forecasts - maybe the best days of animation were over. Maybe the public didn't care. Only a miracle or a magic spell could produce a happy ending. Waking Sleeping Beauty is no fairy tale. It's the true story of how Disney regained its magic with a staggering output of hits - "The Little Mermaid," "Beauty and the Beast," "Aladdin," "The Lion King," and more - over a 10-year period.

This is an updated look at Disney villains and the Seven Deadly Sins, as seen in the thread: http://www.visionsfantastic.com/foru...ly-sins-18766/. It's basically the same thread, but with more villains than before. However, new villains won't really appear until the Greed sin, so until then, the list of villains will be exactly the same as before.

As always, it's based on an article I found at LaughingPlace.com: http://www.laughingplace.com/News-ID509740.asp. So without further ado, I give you...

POOR UNFORTUNATE SOULS: Disney's Most Wanted Villains
A great actor once said that it was always more fun to play the bad guy. After all, what better character than the villain to really be able to let loose and, if not to chew the scenery, at least burn it down?
The villains in Disney films have always had an almost cult following, a special fondness in the hearts of movie fans, even if they were threatening to skin a puppy, devour our hero or even destroy a city. Villain merchandise can be found in the theme parks, where they are the "stars" of the popular "Fantasmic!" show. Frank Thomas and Ollie Johnston even devoted a whole book to the subject.
So why all this fascination with the dark side of Disney magic? Perhaps we are unable to fully care for the protagonist without a suitably hissable antagonist, a carry-over from other forms of entertainment, from literature to drama to mainstream motion pictures. After all, what would David be without his Goliath, or Sherlock Holmes without his Professor Moriarty, or Bugs Bunny without his Elmer Fudd, or Luke Skywalker without his Darth Vader? Or perhaps we see in these villains sides of ourselves that we keep hidden, letting these outrageous characters do what we would never dream of, a vicarious trip into the shadows of our own souls. Or maybe it's just what that great actor felt: they are more fun.
But whatever the fascination with heavies, from Lady Macbeth, Hannibal Lecter and Goldfinger to the Wicked Witch of the West, the Joker and Bill the Butcher, the bad guy (and gal) has always been big -- bigger than life, in fact -- and Disney's stable of bad guys are no exception.
So in celebration of All Hallow's Eve, I'd liked now to "honor" these thieves, fiends and evil monarchs, and compare them to the Seven Deadly Sins they so readily embrace... and we so eagerly relish. This is Part One. We'll begin with the least deadly sins and work our way up the ladder to the most deadly sin of all.

Sin #1: LUST
Lust? In a Disney film? Sure, when the bad boy (or girl) can't have what he (or she) wants (i.e., the good girl (or boy)).

MORTIMER MOUSE

FILM: "Mickey's Rival" (1936)

DVD: Walt Disney Treasures: Mickey Mouse In Living Color

In all their long years of courtship, Mickey has had only one true rival for the affections of his Minnie: namely, Mortimer Mouse. Smug, egotistical and just plain obnoxious, Mortimer is the polar opposite of our main mouse, and his cowardly nature is exposed when Minnie is threatened. Mickey, of course, comes to the rescue.

OCCUPATION(S): Lover boy

CRIMES COMMITTED: None

QUOTE: "Well, if it ain't my ol' sweetie, Minnie Mouse!"

FINAL VERDICT: He leaves Minnie to fend for herself against an enraged bull. But he would eventually show up again more then 60 years later on the "Mickey Mouse Works" and "House of Mouse" serieses.

DONALD'S DOUBLE

FILM: "Donald's Double Trouble" (1946)

VOICE ACTOR: Leslie Denison

DVD: Walt Disney Treasures: The Chronological Donald, Volume 2

After yet another one of their arguments between them, Daisy doesn't ever want to see Donald again, leaving Donald devastated. So our main duck hires a debonair look-alike Lothario to try and win her back for him. Unfortunately, it all backfires when the duck's doppelganger falls in love with Daisy for real and takes her on a date to the amusement park. Needless to say, Donald is not happy...

OCCUPATION(S): Lothario

CRIMES COMMITTED: None

QUOTE: (to Daisy) "Darling, we'll paint the town vermilion."

FINAL VERDICT: When Donald tries to ruin his twin's trip with Daisy through the amusement park's tunnel of love, both Donalds end up beating it out of the park to escape the wrath of a humiliated Daisy.

VICKY ROBINSON

FILM: "The Parent Trap" (1961)

ACTOR: Joanna Barnes

DVD: Available

What's a glamorous socialite/gold-digger to do? She's hooked a handsome and (more importantly) rich ranch owner. But no sooner does she start to reel him in to the altar than not one, but two bratty daughters arrive to derail this loathsome deal. On top of that, the ex-wife shows up, too, and she is not exactly the spinster that the hubby-to-be made her out to be. And now what, camping???

OCCUPATION(S): Society gal

PARTNER(S) IN CRIME: Her mother, a very different kind of Mrs. Robinson

CRIMES COMMITTED: Terrorism, abuse

QUOTE: "First change I make in that household, off she goes to a boarding school in Switzerland."

FINAL VERDICT: Doused with honey and licked by bear cubs, an outraged Vicky angrily calls off the engagement and storms off in a huff.

BARNABY

FILM: "Babes In Toyland" (1961)

ACTOR: Ray Bolger

DVD: Available

The leering would-be Lothario Barnaby wants Mary Contrary all for himself. There's just one problem: she is to marry Tom Piper, a problem easy enough to resolve: he simply dispatches his dim-witted lackeys to dispose of the boy. Naturally, the plan fails, and Barnaby must face off with a shrunken Tom and an army of toy soldiers in Toyland.

OCCUPATION(S): Lothario

PARTNER(S) IN CRIME: Gonzorgo, Roderigo

CRIMES COMMITTED: Kidnapping, attempted murder, trespassing, assault and battery

GOTTA SING-SING: "Castle In Spain"

QUOTE: (trying to woo Mary through aforementioned song) "You'll eat nothing but cake/You'll drink naught but champagne/You'll be in on the take/In our castle in Spain."

FINAL VERDICT: After being shrunk as well, Barnaby is defeated by Tom in a sword duel.

GASTON

FILM: "Beauty and the Beast" (1991)

VOICE ACTOR: Richard White

SUPERVISING ANIMATOR: Andreas Deja

DVD: Available

He's the golden boy of his provincial town, an ace hunter whom all the girls go ga-ga for and, oh yes, every last inch of him is covered with hair. So why can't Gaston nab the beautiful Belle for his bride? Must be all that reading she does. No matter, with an ego the size of his pecs, he is certain he'll win her over... or else.

OCCUPATION(S): Pub proprietor, town bully, hunter

PARTNER(S) IN CRIME: LeFou, Monsieur d'Arque, local yokels

CRIMES COMMITTED: Attempted murder, kidnapping, breaking and entering, wrongful imprisonment, assault and battery, arson, inciting a riot, trespassing

GOTTA SING-SING: "Gaston"

QUOTE: "Were you in love with her, Beast? Did you honestly think she would want you when she could have someone like me?"

FINAL VERDICT: While battling it out with the Beast over Belle atop the Beast's castle, Gaston loses his footing and falls to his doom.

CLAUDE FROLLO

FILM: "The Hunchback of Notre Dame" (1996)

VOICE ACTOR: Tony Jay

SUPERVISING ANIMATOR: Kathy Zielinski

DVD: Available

The poster boy for "Disney lust", Frollo has his beady eyes set on the voluptuous Esmeralda, a "burning desire" that haunts his very soul. He finally finds a use for his abused "foster son" Quasimodo, manipulating him into finding the gypsy for him, so he can burn her at the stake. What better way to show a girl you love her?

OCCUPATION(S): Judge

PARTNER(S) IN CRIME: Phoebus (temporarily), an army of soldiers

CRIMES COMMITTED: Attempted genocide, manslaughter, attempted murder, attempted infanticide, abuse of power, kidnapping, wrongful imprisonment, assault and battery

GOTTA SING-SING: "Hellfire"

QUOTE: "The gypsies live outside the normal order. Their heathen ways inflame the people's lowest instincts. And they must be stopped."

FINAL VERDICT: Notre Dame itself seemingly comes to life to squelch his evil, sending Frollo to fall to his doom.

---

Sin #2: GLUTTONY
Whether it's for supremacy or, more likely, just for a taste of the protagonist, these antagonists are all starving to death. Bloodthirsty? You have no idea.

THE BIG BAD WOLF

FILM: "Three Little Pigs" (1933)

VOICE ACTOR: Billy Bletcher

ANIMATOR: Art Babbitt

DVD: Walt Disney Treasures: Silly Symphonies

Given the hit song about him, you'd think ol' Big Bad would get a little more respect, or at least a few pork rinds. All that huffin' and puffin' and blowin' down of one's house must take a lot out of a wolf, not to mention all those "clever" disguises (like an innocent sheep or a Fuller Brush man) that take some talent to pull off as well. And such dedication: he comes for more in not one, not two, but three follow-up shorts.

OCCUPATION(S): Predator

PARTNER(S) IN CRIME: His three little cubs (in subsequent shorts)

CRIMES COMMITTED: None; wolves have every right to stalk prey

QUOTE: "By the hair on your chinny-chin-chin, I'll huff and I'll puff and I'll blow your house in!"

FINAL VERDICT: Slides down the chimney of the Practical Pig's house, right into a pot of boiling oil, sending him howling into the distance. But he would keep coming back again and again to try and get a taste of the pigs...

THE WOLF

FILM: "Make Mine Music ("Peter and the Wolf" scene)" (1946)

DVD: Available

Certainly one of the most ferocious creatures in Disney lore, this wolf is also the only villain on this list to share title billing with the hero of their story. He's a hungry one, too; he wants to gobble up all of Peter's friends. But hey, that's only natural for this carnivorous predator.

OCCUPATION(S): Predator

CRIMES COMMITTED: None; again, wolves have every right to stalk prey

FINAL VERDICT: Young Peter is the local hero when he successfully captures the beast by lashing him to a tree.

BRER FOX AND BRER BEAR

FILM: "Song of the South" (1946)

VOICE ACTORS: James Baskett and Nicodemus Stewart

DVD: Still not available

The Abbott and Costello of the stories by Uncle Remus, these bungling fools are actually their own worst enemies. In their persistent pursuit of the scrawny Brer Rabbit (who would hardly make much of a meal for either of them, much less both), they constantly trip each other up, putting their collective foot in the tar, so to speak.

OCCUPATION(S): Predators

CRIMES COMMITTED: Attempted murder, conspiracy to commit murder, kidnapping, terrorism, assault with a deadly weapon

QUOTE: Brer Fox: "I got 'im! I got 'im this time!"
Brer Bear: "I'm gonna knock his head clean off!"

FINAL VERDICT: Bamboozled by Brer Rabbit's Laughing Place scam, they wind up on the wrong side of a hive full of bees.

MASTER CONTROL PROGRAM

FILM: "Tron" (1982)

VOICE ACTOR: David Warner

DVD: Available

The corrupt Master Control Program is planning on ruling the computer world, one computer at a time (talk about your computer viruses). Its User Ed Dillinger has stolen Kevin Flynn's video game creations and rewrote them as his own. Now Flynn and some of his pals are out to put a stop to this... even if it means getting sucked into the computer realm to play games for dear life to do so. But the MCP and its partner Sark aren't about to let some User sabotage their plans...

OCCUPATION(S): Computer program

PARTNER(S) IN CRIME: Ed Dillinger, Sark, Warrior Elite of the MCP

CRIMES COMMITTED: Abuse, murder, attempted murder, theft, kidnapping, terrorism

QUOTE: "No one User wrote me. I'm worth a couple million of their man-years."

FINAL VERDICT: During the final showdown between Tron and Sark (who now has the MCP's powers), Flynn leaps into the core of Master Control and distracts it long enough for Tron to hurl his identity disc into the one break in the tower's barrier and destroy it (and Sark with it).

BIG BOY CAPRICE

FILM: "Dick Tracy" (1990)

ACTOR: Al Pacino

DVD: Available

The Godfather of Four Color crime, "Big Boy" attained his nickname, not from his big pronouncements, but by metaphorically devouring his opponents, as in a mobster massacre to rival St. Valentine's. Now he's back in business and on top of the world, ma, "leetle friend" a-blazin'. But, oh, mother of mercy, could Dick Tracy mark the end of Big Boy Caprice?

OCCUPATION(S): Crimelord

PARTNER(S) IN CRIME: Mumbles, Flattop and many others

CRIMES COMMITTED: Kidnapping, terrorism, attempted murder, theft, fraud, assault and battery

QUOTE: (to his fellow gangsters) "You get behind me, we all profit. You challenge me, we all go down! There was one Napoleon, one Washington, one me!"

FINAL VERDICT: In his final showdown with the pesky goody-two-shoes Tracy, Big Boy falls to his doom.

There you have it, the first two sins up and running. More will be added later, and with more villains than last time. Until then, what do you think so far?
