Has anyone seen the 1965 Disney musical film, 'The Happiest Millionaire'? Supposedly it was one of the last films Walt Disney personally saw before his death.

As soon as I really got into listening to the song, 'Are We Dancing?' from Classic Disney Volume III, I loved the song so much that I wanted to see the movie.

The movie is out of date and I can't buy or rent it anywhere here in Sydney so I'll have to buy it on eBay. The thing is, you're always taking the risk of having to buy the film because you can't watch it any other way and then you may not ending up liking the film. Plus it's about three hours long and would be a bit hard for me to watch the film several times all the way through sitting for three hours straight.

Anyway, it has good reviews on Amazon.com, so I do want to buy it. It's a good feeling to own rare or unknown Disney films.

Any comments to those who have seen 'The Happiest Millionaire'?

I've seen it on Vault Disney. It has very good performances, and lots of nice songs, but it's a long movie about not very much. Totally suitable to watching in parts. Some long movies made in the 1960's are designed to be shown in two parts, with an intermission. You would probably want to watch half of it one time, and the rest another time.

If it turns out you enjoy it, you might also like The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band.

Personally, these movies were enjoyable for one viewing, but I don't think I have any desire to see them again. ...although it was fun to watch Tommy Steele manage/wrestle Fred MacMurray's alligators in Millionaire

I saw that movie as a kid and I don't remember liking it very much. But I do have fond memories of other Fred McMurrary movies....like the Nutty Professor. I would like to see it now though....to see if I actualy remember it.

This was a great movie. Had some great humor too. But I also had a crush on Leslie Ann Warren. LOL. I really enjoyed this film. Gosh, I haven't seen it in a long time. I am gonna have to buy it. Oh and Leslie is also in the Original Family Band movie, which the dad in it also plays in Darby O'Gill and he Little People. Another great movie. O man, did I just turn this into a 6 degrees of Kevin Bacon game? LOL Anyway, I think everyone that likes Disney might like this movie.

The problem is a lot of stuff I want off ebay is really expensive when you combine the postage and them convert US $ to AU$

Well I was finally able to see it and I agree with you Bones, it isn't about much..they drag it over a long period of three hours. I watched the first half one time and the second half another time. But yes I like the songs and performances.

May I add that in the opening credits it says 'Walt Disney presents' instead of Walt Disney Pictures presents'.

The reason I wanted to watch it because of the song 'Are We Dancing?' and the scene from the movie was quite romantic.

I seem to remember a scene witha butler singing "Evry bit of life is lit with Fortuocity." as he dances about while tending to several alligators in a big mansion. I always liked that butler.

I don't remember ...Millionaire but I loved ...Family Band. I still sing "Let's Put it Over with Grover" (for some reason it always pops in my head when I'm working in the yard) and the choreography in "West of the Wide Missouri" was great fun. Think I'll go order it now!

Well, I love the music from Happiest Millionaire. The movie does drag a bit. It was actually finished and released in 1967 after Walt's death and I think the editors were afraid to mess with it too much. They were trying to redo the success of Mary Poppins, but didn't quite get it.

However it is because of Family Band, since that got brought up in this thread, that I know who Benjamin Harrison and Grover Cleveland are...LOL

BTW both of those films are based off of books which recount real families and situations by the family members.......

Millionaire can be rented through Netflix.
