Disney invents interactive 3-D projection system

Disney applies for interactive 3-D projection system pattent (http://appft1.uspto.gov/netacgi/nph-Parser?Sect1=PTO1&Sect2=HITOFF&d=PG01&p=1&u=/netahtml/PTO/srchnum.html&r=1&f=G&l=50&s1=%2220060072076%22.PGNR.&OS=DN/20060072076&RS=DN/20060072076)
US Patent & Trademark Office
A group of inventors from Disney Enterprises, Inc. applied for a pattent for a new a new interactive 3-D projection system, presumably for use in new theme park attractions. The system would "allow users at separate locations, to share in an interactive experience" and "to engage in a game that rewards a user that focuses light on the target area" The patent details, among other things an "x-ray flashlight effect" in which a user "may peer through the outside walls of the house of a cartoon character in order to expose the cartoon character that lives inside the house" who when surprised "could react with hand to mouth and with an audible gasp upon being discovered in its 'habitat', and the movement and sound actions would only occur as the flashlight is pointing towards them. More than one sequence, used in a semi-random series, may advantageously be employed to maintain the novelty of the interaction with the user."

I love to hear about new inventive ideas! Yay keep them coming imagineers! Just take enough time to place them into the parks as a classic to be.

Wow. The imagination runs wild here. Wouldn't it be cool to have a flasher thingy that you could buy at the park with things to find here and there throughout the park? (A rabbit warren in Critter Country, a ghost around the HM, Injun Joe on TSI, a fairy home in Fantasyland). Yeah, far-fetched, but nothing is impossible for Disney imagineers. Like CB says, take time.

Midway Madness?

Probably, this does sound like the patent-pending technology that's in the works for Midway Madness. Of course final budget evaluations will make the final decision there.

Thank you VF for reporting on this very interesting Imagineering patent. Most sites don't get this "inside" knowledge. It's great for all of us hard-core Disney trivia buffs!

AMAZING!!! Thank you Imagineers.
Can't wait to find out how i can see this.
And debijeanm's ideas would really work.
I think they should put alot of these in ride queue's to keep guests entertained! Definately need one for Pirates though.... how about Davy Jones?
And you know when you're walking kind of in between Alice in Wonderland and The Mad Tea Party? The little house in front of Mad Hatter..... they could have one on the door.
:)
