Alright all you Pirates fans out there! There's about 10 and a half months left until Pirates of the Caribbean 3 comes out! Now, until then, I created this post for discussion upon what might happen in the third installment, theories to unanswered questions, and overall stuff pertaining to the third movie! Let me get the ball rolling with some unanswered questions we were left off with from the second movie.

1) What is the connection between Tia Dalma and Davy Jones?
2) What will become of Norrington, Lord Cutter Beckett and the East India Trading Company?
3) How did Barbossa come back?
4) What is Davy Jones going to do now that Norrington and Cutter Beckett have his heart?

*AND FINALLY!*

5) What will become of Captain Jack Sparrow?!?

BTW: I heard that the title "At World's End" will NOT be used as the subtitle for the 3rd film. If this is true, what could it be? (This is an unconfirmed report, so don't blame me for anything :icon_roll)

Actually it is the Subtitle. I was watching tv and they confirmed that it was called "At Worlds End". An addition to the plot is Keira is getting kidnapped by the horendessly mean Chianese Pirates. They begin filming in Singapore in augest. They also make a final trip back to Tortuga. On the tram tour at Universal they said they will film in that spot again. (The tortuga sets aka Little Europe).

Okay, thanks. I heard (on ET I think) that Disney wanted to create a new title because so many people had already spoiled the surprise :icon_roll. Thank you for clearing that up, because even though I knew that was a load of garbage, you can't be quite sure these days.

sounds awesome, my friend said the ring jack stole from tia dalma will come into play also. assuming how the plot uses three good guys & three bad guys, i'm guessing along w/ the ring, davy jones' heart, and the coin will come in perhaps? but i know that the tie w/ Davy Jones and his love will come in. and i don't mean the sea.

Actually, it makes sense that it would be called The World's End because of what Tia Dalma said at the end of the movie. You know, when she said:

"You would be willing to do anything to find him?...To find Jack Sparrow, you must sail to the end of the Earth and beyond."

actually at the end of the credits of POTC 1, Jack the monkey takes a piece of Cortezes treasure from the stone ches. So that's how Barbossa survived

linklewtt
08-01-2006, 08:04 PM
^^wrong. only Jack the monkey became a skeleton after that happened. This DID NOT bring Barbossa back to life. anyways, he would have become a skeleton, unable to eat food, and he clearly eats the apple at the end of the movie.

ONLY Jack the monkey is a skeleton.

Most likely Tia Dalma brought Barbossa back to life some way.

Jonny Depp once said that he saw pirates as the rock stars of there day, so he based Jack Sparrow around the mannerisms of Keith Richards. I recently saw an interview with kieth(from early 80's) and he acts exactly as Jack Sparrow would. For example, the person interviewing him said "rolling stones magazine has come out with a list of ppl expected to die soon, and u have taken the spot as number one". and kieth replied"I'll let you know if they're right" And he slurs his words and talks all lazy and mumbly, his voice is almost identicalto jonny depp. Quite interesting

Well, according to the "movie theories" presented in the Scream franchise, since this is the third installment in a trilogy, 3 things will happen:

1) The bad guy will be REALLY hard to kill. So, in this one, the final showdown is either going to be between Cutler Beckett, Norrington, Davy Jones, or Captain Sao Feng (Chow Yun-Fat). Although a battle between any one of these characters and a main character is imminent, what could also possibly happen is a multi-battle going on at once. For instance, Jack and Barbossa could be fighting Davy Jones while say Elizabeth and Will face off against Norrington. All iin all though, the possibilities are endless. Main point though: the bad guy the movie focuses on the most will be one tough cookie.

2) The past will come back to haunt everybody. I don't know how this could apply to any of our heroes, but Davy Jones is a different story. This may be our chance to see what really happened to Davy Jones when he cut out his heart, and a possible connection between him and Tia Dalma. As far as the heroes, Bootstrap's and Jack's pasts are the most likely to be dealt with if the movie goes in that direction.

3) Everyone, including the main character can die. Oh-kay. This is the million dollar question many pirates fans have on their minds. We already know that Jack is coming back for the third one, but would he really want to come back, or take the place of Davy Jones as ruler of the ocean with his father? Will Turner may die by sacrificing himself in order to kill Davy Jones. This one too has limitless possibilities, but if I were to bet on who would be killed off in this one (bad and good guys altogether), I would say... Will, Davy Jones, Sao Feng, Norrington, and maybe (just MAYBE!) Jack may want to stay with his father in the afterlife.

Is Sao Feng a villian in this movie? I was under the impression that, because The East India Co. and Davy Jones have vowed to stamp out piracy, Sao Feng would be on the same side as Barbossa and Jack and the other pirate lords (although, just because they work together doesn't nessecairly mean they have to like one another).

Well, when I first started this thread I was going on pure theory. What I had come to believe, is that Sao Feng captured Elizabeth and that's what caused Barbossa and crew to go and rescue her in Singapore. From what I've seen in the trailer though, it does look that Sao Feng is the pirate lord of Asia and therefore would be on the side of Barbossa, Jack and the other pirates to go up agains the East India Co. and Davy Jones. I guess we won't find out until the movie.

^ I think maybe he means "padawan clothes" maybe.

Also I found out that pirates has: 1.clocked in at 170 minutes 2.Has a bill of over $300 million and finally 3. Isn't even finished. Although that is a gigantic bill, Disney is happy to have that big a bill. So if it isn't finished, then the movie could be 3 hours long with the end credits being at least 10 minutes of the movie.

Has anybody heard what the musical score for this one sounds like? It's AMAZING and blows the other 2 movies' out of the water. :D
It certainly sounds very different, but its a welcome change for me. Previous important themes from the other 2 films do appear in the music though, so don't worry. :p

Apparently there's an all-new song in the movie called "Hoist The Colours" and goes like "Yo ho, all together, Hoist the Colours high! Heave ho, thieves and beggars, never shall we die!" and appears throughout the orchestral music at certain points, and ow, I can't stop raving because it was such a surprise to me, lol. *hyperventilates* Haha, wow. Yep, its obvious I wasn't toooo big of a fan of the music from the previous films. ^_^; (I do own the soundtracks to them though) Regardless, the movie definitely has an epic sound. Let's hope everything else delivers! ^__^ (I'm REALLY excited for World's End now)

The confusing plots are a great way to get people to see the movie more than once. This movie is a definite re-see!

The post-credits scene was a little predictable, yet it was also a great touch.

I loved the many odd yet awesome nods to the attraction. And I'm BEYOND glad they sang the theme song "Yo Ho (A Pirate's Life For Me)" more than once! :)

Was it not Davy Jones as the 4th that tried to kill him?

he did try and kill him but i don't believe he was the 4th because he wasn't there when he said it! Did Gibbs try and kill him at any time, i dont remember? because i have seen it twice now and i cant figure it out for the life of me!

I believe it was Tia Dalma who tried to kill him before she became imprisoned in human form. As Calypso, she could have created a storm on the sea that could have killed Jack. After stating that four people currently with him had tried to kill him previously, with only one succeeding, he approaches Tia Dalma who responds "But don't tell me you didn't enjoy it at the time?", to which Jack smiles broadly and replies "All right, fair enough, you're in."

Yeah it was Tia Dahlma. She responds with "Yeah, but you seemed to enjoy it at the time..." I'm guessing this alludes to something "romantically tragic" that happened in their past between the two of them

I think that maybe Jack was referring to Pintel and Ragetti, asa they were part of the origianl crew that marooned Jack on the deserted island.

The best line in that movie was

Jack: We pirates are an unimaginative bunch. I once sailed with a man with no arms and one leg.

Gibbs: What did you call him?

Jack: Larry

Not right away. Jerry Bruckheimer is busy developing Prince of Persia, and Gore Verbinski is working on Berke Breathed's Flawed Dogs.

As much as I love the pirates films, I think the trilogy right now is good to go for quite a while. If they do decide to do a fourth installment or another trilogy furthermore, I think they should wait a few years until a new generation is ready for it. My opinion though, I will continue to enjoy them, but 3 for now is good. I would rather see Disney try and make some films out of some of the remaining original park attractions like Jungle Cruse for instance.

Yeah what Matt said. The Pirates movies worked because the ride and storyline are so fascinating, but it's time to see some originality. There isn't really another ride that would work as a great movie.

Mansion would have worked as a great movie, IF they put as much effort (and budget) into that as they did POTC. Couple actors worthy of the title 'actor' & a script written above 2nd grade reading level would also have worked...

I have to sadly say that I concur. I went into Mansion with extremely high expectations after seeing Pirates back in 2003, but unfortunately it failed to deliver. And I do mean fail. Well, I guess that's what I get for putting too much faith into Eddie Murphy. I mean, I really, really, wanted to prove everyone wrong when they scuffed at the idea of Murphy being in it, but alas, they were right and I was wrong. Look at the bright side, at least they didn't put an animatronic of Murphy in the Mansion at DL.

I'm gonna have to say this third installment was my least favorite of the 3. I loved the first 2, but this one just got a little too wierd for me. Its like they were trying SSOOOOO hard to come up with an original idea (which they did) that they went overboard with everything. I thought the part where Calypso becomes this gigantic woman on the ship was laughable! And I understand that Jack was going crazy in Davy Jones' locker, but it got a little too wierd for me....especially the miniature Jack Sparrows that whispered into his ear. They also portrayed Davy Jones as a goofball. I thought he was much more intimidating in Dead Man's Chest. However, there were some great parts in the movie. I loved where they were sailing to "World's End" to fetch back Jack (The frozen scene, the waterfall scene, etc.). I also loved (of course) the whirlpool scene towards the end. But something that didn't make any sense to me was when the Pearl and the Dutchman came up on each side of Lord Beckett's ship and blew it to pieces.......Beckett's ship had about a thousand cannons on each side, so why didn't he fight back?! Maybe I missed something but it seemed unreasonable to me. Anyway, thats just my two cents. I still loved the movie, just not near as much as the first two.

I thought Pirates 3, while a great spectacle, was a very mediocre movie. The first one worked because of Depp and the originality, the second worked because it built up suspense. Unfortunatley I feel like this was the Pirates movie that fell apart. Like Spiderman 3, it took a huge amount of ideas and crammed so many of them in it felt overwhelming to watch.

Dissapointing.

Realistically speaking, Beckett's ship had more like forty-five or fifty cannons on each side, which made it look like an idiotic blowfish. Edward Teach's (AKA Blackbeard) flagship had only a grand total of fourty four cannons. Beckett's ship would have been slow and hard to manouver in a battle. Likely, it would have served the purpose of more of a sea fortress than a man-of-war. Beckett was undone and he knew it. He was so secure in his haughtiness that the Dutchman's betrayal was unfathomable. He froze up. Lost his cool. The Pearl was no match for that beast of a ship, but the Dutchman was an undead beast of its own. Beckett didn't stand a snowballs chance.

Besides, Beckett's crew would have theoretically been incredibly diciplined. To fire without an order would have been an offence. Unquestioned obedience and confidence in your captain was always a crew's first and foremost duty. To freak out and start firing because you are scared was not acceptable. Unfortunately, the crew sailed under the wrong captain.

I checked online at Harkins Theatres and it looks like another pirates should be out sometime in 2010. Which if you think about it is about right 3 years to develop another Pirates movie. Plus like you said Ezra that Gore Verbinski and Jerry Bruckheimer are working on other things right now, so maybe just maybe they are in the process of script making. I have no idea, though just a thought!
