I didn't see a thread about this, so I want to get this out there to all who have not heard about it. I read about it yesterday, and i was soooooo exited!

k so as the 50th celebration comes to an end, on October 1 of this year Disney will begin its new year of events. This next year is called the "Year of A Million Dreams" and it includes a really really cool aspect to the park experience. Each day CMs will award someone and their family a special night stay in the new Mickey's Penthouse in the Disneyland Hotel (at WDW, the guest gets to stay in a room in Cinderella's Castle)! now how cool is that?

there are other prizes to be won as well. A golden Fastpass ticket gets you in front of any line (i guess) whenever you want all day long! and you could win a trip to each Disneyland around the globe and be grand marshall in a parade!

also, new rides are coming. I for one was disheartened when i read on here that Rockit Mountain would not be going through as planned. but then i was smiling from ear to ear to read that Rockin' Space Mountain IS coming for the year celebration! also Nemo is coming. In WDW they will have 3 new attractions: The Seas with Nemo and Friends, Finding Nemo: The Musical, and The Laugh Floor Comedy Club.

so ya...this sounds totally awesome! it said on a different site that there was some sort of random way they were planning to pick the winners but it didn't go into detail. so i hope that they don't do it how they usually do and pick the most "deserving" guest (i.e. choose some 5 year old with cut blue eyes and such). but ya, COOOOOOL!!!!

here is a site with info. go a little ways down the page and you will find a few blurbs about the festivities. more info is to come, and if you have any at all...SPEAK!

also on there is something about this "have the Magic Kingdom all to yourself day". i think that's supposed to kickstart the celebration (at least in WDW). anyways you get to go in before everyone else (on a red carpet!) and when you leave each land (which only YOU and your party get to be in) all the other regular guests come in. so you get to be in whatever land for as long as you want i suppose with the envious eyes of all the regulars who can't get into the are until after you leave. GENIUS! anyways, read about that on the site too!

I read about this in the newspaper! It sounds really cool, as long as they have some fair way of choosing winners. I mean hey, I want to have a chance at winning some of these prizes too! I wouldn't mind winning a trip to Tokyo Disneyland! I was just looking through my receipts from the trip tonight and I realized that I'm going to be paying off my debts for quite a few years. :icon_roll So, a free trip to TDR would be a dream come true!

Y'know...every story I've ever read looks on being locked up in the high tower of a castle overnight as a bad thing. Amazing how context can change things...

Well if you grow your hair out really long,
maybe a handsome prince can come climb up it and rescue you.

or maybe take a look at you and say
uh, wrong castle, sorry...
and climb back out again

According to Lutz, about half of these so-called 'Million Dreams' will be free churros, soft drinks or burgers. Now I'm all for free stuff, but I can't say I can recall the last time I dreamed of winning a free soda.

and that is precisely why i'm kind of glad that cm's and families aren't really allowed to enter....i get free soda anyways lmao and free food.....well sort of.....i mean i do have to buy it before i bring it to the park for it to be theoretically free but still ;)

Anyways...

Does anyone know what attractions will be part of this promotion? Will the Finding Nemo Submarine Voyage &/or Midway Madness be somehow intertwined within the program, like they did with BLAB and Space Mtn with Disneyland's 50th? Yes, I know it's going to be a part of it, but are they going to slap the Year of a Million Dreams logo on every attraction that comes out in the next year or so?

PeoplemoverMatt

They did it with the 50th, and look what happened. They'd be foolish not to tie the new attractions in with the Year of a Million Dreams promotion.

It's going to be a lot more than that. I was watching the presentation on our website. There are going to be more sparatic givaways. Like telling a group of people who came to see a show that they all now have golden fastpasses for the rest of the day. Or how a CM tells a family that they are going to be the Grand Marshalls for the parade...and for the parades at the other parks. In addition to making dreams come true, they are going to have more interactivness between kids and characters. Like Woddy's cowboy school etc. It's going to be fun.

I know this is a little off-topic but, this is one of the best things TDA has done in the last few years - improve live entertainment all over the park. For a while there, the characters were bland photo ops only and there were precious few places to catch some good (interactive) live entertainment like the Jungle Cruise, the Golden Horseshoe, the jazz trio in NOS... pretty thin. The live acts help keep the park from feeling like one big robotic experience and I'm glad to hear they're finding new ways to use the characters.

on the site where i got my info, there was something about how guests' experiences at the park would be enhanced and personalized somehow or something like that. i'm looking forward to seeing exactly what that means.

Has anyone heard of Disney's "Year of a Million Dreams"? I guess they are going to make a million people's Disney dreams come true. And the first one is getting Disney World all to yourself. That would be sweet. It's on www.mydisneyparks.com.

For the whole year that I enjoyed the fireworks at DL for the Happiest Homecoming, I wondered why "Remember, Dreams Come True" was the theme. Now I know.

Yes, this sounds like a cool theme and a cool sweepstakes. I followed your link, though, and didn't read anything about getting WDW all to yourself. Can you tell us, specifically, where they mention that? I would be happy with a trip there, but having the park to myself would be too much!

I found an official press release from Disney regarding the ?Year of a Million Dreams? celebration. Basically, what is happening is that if you sign up on the website, it makes you eligible to win the grand prize of having Walt Disney World's Magic Kingdom to yourself for a day. As far as the other prizes are concerned, the winners are picked at random by a Disney cast member. Apparently those prizes range from a celebration pin, all the way up to a Golden Fast Pass, or being able to stay a night in Mickey Mouse Suite at the hotel.

I'll be there the 1st. Maybe I'll win a churro. Not exactly my dream, but I can say I WON IT!

To paraphrase A Christmas Story (One of the best movies of all time, thank you very much):
"It's a major award!"
"Looks like a churro to me..."
"Of course it's a churro, but...it's a major award! I won it!"

I really don't like the idea of Cast Members "randomly" picking guests to win things. I can totally see it being abused... :icon_roll

Disney has a long standing tradition of picking families with cute, photogenic children to win things. This goes all the way back to Disneyland's opening day. Michael Schwartner and Christine Vess would not have been the first children to enter Disneyland if they had gone through the line with everybody else... they were selected and brought in early to have their photo with Walt Disney.

I got an email a few days ago about this. It said a big surprise was coming soon, and asked me to check where I wanted my dream to come true (I picked DL, of course). It then said that very soon they would give more information, and thanked me with a themed desktop screensaver. It did get me excited, hopefully I win something to use on my next trip.

Contests are more strictly regulated than they used to be. There have been articles regarding this new promotion mentioning a "random process" which could be reminiscent of DL's 30th birthday where the ticket scanning machine determined if you received a prize and what prize that was as you were entering the park and a nearby CM inside the gates awarded winners with the machine selected prize.

I wouldn't put it past Disney to include a quicky makeover for guests to make the winners of larger "dreams" look more photogenic for the press releases.

Based on my calculations, in order to give away a million dreams, Disney will be granting about 2700 dreams a day. I sure like those odds! PeoplemoverMatt

It's not desperation, they just don't want people to feel like there's no reason to visit Disneyland anymore now that the 50th is over. However, you describe it pretty accurately when you call it a 'quick fix'. From what Lutz tells us, they're basically improvising the entire thing.

Disney is predicting the theme park revenue will "go flat" because the 50th is over. They've admitted to it as part of their third quarter financial reporting. The 50th renewed interest in the theme parks for alot of people, myself included. They know that interest will subside eventually, but they would like to keep it going for as long as they can.

PeoplemoverMatt
08-29-2006, 02:01 PM
But that Dream Squad will not be selecting the dreamers, but going to where a computer has randomly selected they be, so Lutz says. This will most likely not be the way it actually happens however because Disney always wants a certain image for their big media-covered prizes, and you can bet those free nights in the Mickey Penthouse will merit some media attention.

^^Unfortunately I don't fit Disney's little image. :icon_roll That's probably one of the biggest flaws of Disney, in my opinion.

Although I really do love our Disneyland, I agree that there isn't a whole lot there that really makes me say, "OMG, I have to go!" I wish they'd have more new things to keep me coming (like TDR, which has new merchandise, parades, and themes almost every season).

It's a nice thought but to keep putting the effort and quality necessary into new things like that every year, it takes a huge budget. A huge budget Oriental Land Co. has no problem with, but one that Jay Rasulo would need therapy over.

I don't know if I like the idea of a 'dream squad.' How do we know they're picking the winners at random? Even the computerized system of picking the grand prize winner makes me wonder... I bet the WDW winners will be a family of 4 -- mom, dad, little boy, little girl, in true Disney fashion. What if two senior citizens win the prize? Will that get as much media attention?

I honestly don't know the details. I just know that every CM is getting a class over at TDA about it in the next couple of weeks and it's mandatory to go to it.

I feel the same way! I don't think Disney ever does this stuff "at random." Heck, even the Grand Marshalls (is that what it's called?) always seem to be a "Disney family" - mom, dad, and two cute little kids. Who cares about some teenager who still loves Disney and comes with his/her friends? :icon_roll

Some new rumors regarding the "Dream Squad"...I heard that no one will actually be getting their personal dreams granted. There is just a list of prizes that will be given out (small and large) by the the "Dream Squad" to people that happen to be in the right place at the right time. It's gonna be a little different than what we thought but still great!

sp the other day my dad came home with this pamphlet they gave him at work (Disneyland). it's like the castmember guide to the new year! it's full of different things to do and what to expect. so here's what i got out of it:

- the CMs are supposed to be EXTRA nice and caring towards the guests. this is supposed to reflect the Magical Moments that so many guests love experiencing only at Disneyland. the pamphlet included suggestions on how to be more active with guests. CMs should ask what a child's name is, give extra special attention to birthday guests/honeymooners/first visitors. no joke, the pamphlet also includes various phrases a CM can use to strike up a conversation!

- the new nametags will feature the hometown of the CM under his/her name. these new tags are supposed to allow guests to have more in common with the CMs and perhaps talk about their hometowns as well.

- some "dreams" that will be awarded are the Dream FASTPASS, silver pin trading lanyards with 2 pins, a pair of Dream Ears, a night at Mickey's Penthouse, and a Disney Dining experience or VIP admission to one of Disney's special events.

- the official logo of the new year is Sleeping Beauty Castle with the phrase "Where Dreams Come True" up above it. across the front is a banner saying "The Year of a Million Dreams". this logo will be featured on jackets, hats, etc.

- a new merchandise program called the "Storybook" program will feauture Disney characters on jackets, t-shirts, hats, mugs, toys, pins, and more.

-a "Dream Collection" merchandise program will feature light-up Mickey Ears, new Disney character plush, and a Minnie inspired dress with light-up features

- a new "Pixie Dust Pin" program will allow many CMs to give a guest a special pair of pins. the guest is supposed to keep one and give the other away to another guest.

- new children's activity menus, gift with purchase dining pins, and more will appear in food locations

- a new snack inspired by the upcoming High School Musical Pep Rally will be featured (probably over at DCA). it is a little megaphone with "High School Musical" written on the side full of popcorn

- a Jedi Training Academy and Life of a Pirate experiences will be introduced. Disney's Princess Fantasy Faire IS NOT taking place of the Fantasyland Theater!!! The theater will just be TRANSFORMED into the fair (nothign is being raized; the theater will still live)

- Rockin' Space Mountain will come in January as well as Rockin' California Sreamin'! both will only be available Jan - April. it hink that they will be the permanent versions of the ride throughout those 4 months because the pamphlet does not say anything about switching at night or anything.

- a new Halloween party will be unvieled Sept 29 - October 31. it's called Disney's HaloweenTime. the whole resort will be decorated for Halloween and new interactive activities will be introduced.

So that's all my info, and doesn't it sound COOL?? it sounds like this year Disney really is focusing on the guest, which I think is really classy and sets Disney apart from other parks. they really will make our dreams come true.

Will these golden Fastpasses be issues in advance or when you get there? Also, I assume that means you don't have to wait in line for ANY rides right, including your guests?
--------------------------------------Double post added here.
Sorry for the double post, but I was wondering: since the WDW prize winner will be announced this weekend or early next week, does that mean all the winners for all parks will be notified? Or is that in October?

Has anyone heard anything regarding a winner? No. I checked several wire services that Disney uses just now and nothing yet. It'll probably be a couple of days before they release anything. Most likely the winner has to sign an acceptance agreement before it becomes official.

What's up with having a single slogan for the Year of A Million Dreams campaign for both DLR and WDW? Both locations will be using "Disney Parks: Where Dreams Come True." I just want to know what will happen with "The Happiest Place on Earth" slogan for DLR?

I think that they should have unique slogans (and merchandise) for each of the six parks involved that has something to do with the overall theme of the campaign. Anyway, just a thought...

I'll probably just bring a bottle with me! I really don't like the idea of "Disney Parks." The parks are losing their unique identities. People will start saying, "I'm going to a Disney Park tomorrow" or something like that. I think I'll be sick!

^ Despite Jay Rasulo's apparent thinking otherwise, NO ONE would say something like that. He might be able to rid the USA of anything that says 'Disneyland' or 'WDW' one day if he so chose, but people are not so mindless as to just adopt the new bland labels. They'll either be entirely confused, or see this for the obvious corporate branding this is. Either way, Disney Corp. Management will be knocked down a few pegs in their eyes. He might be able to erase 'Happiest Place on Earth' from a few napkins, but that can never change Disneyland's being the Happiest Place on Earth to its hundereds of millions of guests.

what is with the Dream Squad? I've been to the parks 3 times since October 1, and I have seen NO ONE win any prizes. i have seen 2 Dream Squad people walking around doing NOTHING. i mean, when i heard about this new thing i expected to see the DS everywhere in the parks and everyone enjoying getting prizes or whatever. but no. nothing.

now i did win a lanyard while in DCA, so i guess i have seen some pf the DS, but when they gave it to me they made no big hooha. they didn't play music or something and get me all excited. they just placed it on my head and 39 other heads. i thought they would announce themselves or something, but no. the only way you would know who the heck they are was to read about them on the internet.

so this DS thing is turning out to be lame. what are your experiences? same as mine?

Straight from my Oct. 5-8 trip report...

For the first time I ended up seeing Aladdin a Musical Spectacular and was wowed like never before. Quite possibly one of the best theatrical performances ever. The genie is hilarious and the magic carpet is also very funny. Great show.

After this my friend and I went over to the Animation Studio, sat on a couch, and watched the Disney animated magic unfold around us when we were approached by a CM named Valerie. Valerie wanted to know all about my friend and I, where we were from, who our favorite characters are, why we come to DLR, and? WHAT OUR DREAM IS!!!
This was the line I had been looking for. I immediately went for the big guns and said I had always dreamt about living on main street or riding my favorite attractions with a character or two. We went on to talk about other dreams and Valerie began asking us about attractions that we had already been on and what our favorite attractions are.

We mentioned that we really enjoy Tower of Terror but the wait time is always so long and we also talked about how we?d like to see Golden Screams but have never been able to because the shows are ALWAYS full. Valerie then excused herself only to return moments later with a camera crew and granted us our uh? wish of seeing Golden Screams. Valerie gave us special instructions and certain names of Cast Members to speak with when we arrive. After giving Valerie a hug for her kind gift my friend and I left the animation studio to head to the Screams theatre when we noticed the camera crew was following us through the Off the Page store. When I turned around and made it obvious I was watching, the camera crew (dressed in CM name tags and radios) pulled back a little.

As we arrived, the lines were already very long and the show full. We followed our specific instructions and were immediately escorted inside to front row center. It should be noted the camera crew was in the Golden Screams as well and went away soon after the show started.

We watched, we laughed, we cheered, we exited satisfied after a ?cute? show to CM Valerie who was waiting at the exit. Valerie then handed my friend and I fast passes to Tower of Terror and said she hopes she had made our stay even more magical and memorable. We agreed that she had and embraced her again.
And yes, the camera crew, whatever they were taping for, were there filming again.
Anyone know what they?d be taping for?

well, what i mean is that when they do make themselves known (when they show up at wherever) they should make a really big hullabaloo so that everyone in that area is like "WOW!!!!" but they don't do that. Disney held auditions for the DS. you would think that the people chosen were gonna be upbeat and attention attracters.

Age discrimination! Really though, I think it's unfair that this Dream Squad chooses who wins and who doesn't because IMHO it's not very "random." I think the other thread about the dream machine is a much better idea. I don't think a machine is as discriminating as a human being.

I have two questions that pertains to the Dream Squad. If I was approached and given my dream, and I said my dream was to ride Space Mountain with all of the work lights on, would they grant a wish that large? What about a lifetime pass, or even just a Space Mountain CM jacket/uniform? Would they grant one of those?
