I think I would enjoy the faeries much more than the princesses. I've already seen Tinkerbell stickers that say, "So NOT a princess," and Flora, Fauna and Meriweather are my favorite Disney characters (other than Mickey.)
I'll be watching for this one.

Jim Hill takes you to NYC's Jacob Javits Center for yesterday's big announcement. Where Disney Consumer Products finally revealed the name of the actress who'll be doing all of the talking for J.M. Barrie's (formerly) silent sprite from now on.

Opinion: TinkerBell Talks - Shame on Disney!
TinkerBell Talks - Shame on Disney! (http://www.cinematical.com/2006/06/21/tinker-bell-talks-shame-on-disney)
Cinematical
Last fall Disney unveiled a line of merchandise called Fairies, which follows the company's successful Princesses franchise. As part of the series of products and licensing deals, Disney will release straight-to-video animated films featuring TinkerBell, the tiny pixie duster from Peter Pan, and her fairy friends. Disney has created a clique of friends for Tink and is having TinkerBell speak. Providing her voice is Brittany Murphy. Maybe some people are okay with a talking Tink, but if I'm not one of them. If I remember correctly, a lot of the plot points in Peter Pan have to do with her inability to communicate by any other means than pantomime.

TinkerBell goes back-to-school
TinkerBell to ring school bells (http://www.fortwayne.com/mld/journalgazette/15081515.htm)
Journal Gazette - Fort Wayne Indiana
All the cool girls will be wearing TinkerBell on their backs when they show up at school this year, at least if The Walt Disney Co.’s market researchers got it right. Disney is putting TinkerBell, who just happens to be starring in her own feature film in 2007, front and center on fashion-forward denim jackets, backpacks, sweat shirts and nightgowns. She’s getting prime real estate in Disney stores, at the expense of some other Disney characters. TinkerBell and her fairy friends have a certain cachet with grade-school girls, an important demographic in the world of kiddie clothes. Some of those girls, who’ve been wearing Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty togs for years, might feel they’ve somewhat outgrown the princesses. "Girls 6 and up - they want to be TinkerBell’s friend," maintains Jim Fielding, executive vice president of retail, sales and marketing for Disney Consumer Products. "She’s a little sassy and has a fuller life. She has an aspirational lifestyle."

I do have to put my two cents in though...
Okay, Peter Pan is my FAVORITE- I mean, I wanted to grow up to be Peter (which is sort of an oxymoron, but whatever). Now, I cannot find Peter Pan stuff ANYWHERE! Not in Disneyland, online, etc.- it's ALWAYS Tinkerbell. Now, I don't have a problem with Tinkerbell, it's just that when I was in WDW, I saw a cute backpack with Tink on it, but it said, "Walt Disney's Tinkerbell" What happened to "Walt Disney's Peter Pan"? Grrrrr....
Give Peter some credit! :)

I agree, tinkerbell has always been everywhere, its so hard to find peter pan stuff, and the only peter pan action figures i can find are those rediculus looking ones at the disney store that are ripped with muscles, and look like animae characters. For the longest time tinkerbell has been one of the leading characters for disney merchandice (i dont have a problem with that) but people love peter pan too, its like only selling merchandice with the seven dwarfs, but never selling snow white, it just does not make sense.

No not a Princess a character with faults like jealousy and spite. I don't know why I like that little spunky character she is not the sweetest of all characters but yet her imperfections make her interesting and a bit comical. Her is a Disney link that promotes the Character of Tinkerbell (http://disney.go.com/fairies/index.html) in the new movie TinkerBell and the Ring of Belief comeing sometime in 2007. I think it's a cute little site for little girls to enjoy. I like the animation that was put into it.

I agree! She's much more interesting than the princesses. I'm a little worried (c'mon Deb, it's Disney, chill out) that they will try to 'princessify' her.

At least Peter still has the hats at the park (ya know the green elf-ish looking hats). They should have some more stuff on him tho...
Kinda understand how ya feel though. I totally love pip and pop (see avatar). At one time it was somewhat easy to find stuff on them... now it's like ugh. >.< I was lucky to find one small set of plushies (like 4" high)...

I think there are more little girls that get into the girly stuff marketing, what the little girls are in most demand of. If it was your business what would you do? It would be cool to see more of the other characters from the movie of Peter Pan though I agree. I really wanted a statue of Captain Hook once it was just made so well.

Disney Book: In the Realm of the Never Fairies
In the Realm of the Never Fairies offers a detailed look at Disney's newest fantasy world (http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/archive/2006/09/27/5967.aspx)

Jim Hill reviews this handsome new hardcover from Disney Press
Do you believe in fairies? Seems like a simple enough question, don't you think? But - before you answer - you may want to consider picking up a copy of In the Realm of the Never Fairies: The Secret World of Pixie Hollow (Disney Press, September 2006). Why For? Well, just as the title suggests, this handsome hardcover gives its readers a detailed look at the formerly secret world of the Disney Fairies (http://disney.go.com/fairies/homepage.html). Loaded with beautiful paintings of Pixie Hollow locales, this 144-page book attempts to covers all aspects of the world of the Disney Fairies. Only now we get to see where Tinker Bell hangs out when she's not pal-ing around with Peter Pan. continue reading (http://jimhillmedia.com/blogs/jim_hill/archive/2006/09/27/5967.aspx)

For whatever it's worth...
I actually kind of like the idea of the Disney fairies, and quite like the designs for Pixie Hollow...
However...
What I don't like is how little imagination has been used in developing the franchise: "Okay, we'll give Tinkerbell a bunch of friends with different abilities and zany personalities and we can join in the adventure as they all learn to grow... awwww."
I honestly would much rather have seen them try to pull together the disparate fairies throughout Disney - Tink, Flora, Fauna and Merryweather, the Blue Fairy, Fantasia's weather fairies - ala Disney Princesses and pit them against the built-in villain, the one fairy gone horribly horribly bad, the Mistress of All Evil herself, Maleficent. Now I don't mean some kind of Lords of the Ring-style epic adventure (we'll save that for the Dwarfs ^_^), but maybe them demonstrating all those sweet virtues little girls are supposed to have and defeating Maleficent's evil plots by way of them.
I dunno'...

Well, what a bummer! I was hoping they would bring together all the faeries from the movies. Looks like instead we get a new community (and they seem kinda cheesy to me.) Oh, well.

I have to admit I like that idea too. Although for marketing I can see what Disney is doing being a parent the target is often to work more moral than a daring adventure for the young set maybe 3-8yrs.. I am guessing that is the target age for this.

Tinker Bell still needs tinkering, Disney decides
Tinker Bell still needs tinkering, Disney decides (http://www.orlandosentinel.com/entertainment/la-fi-tinkerbell21dec21,0,249767.story)
Orlando Sentinel
Top Walt Disney Co. animation executives have delayed next year's release of a Tinker Bell DVD that the company was counting on to drive sales of a key new line of merchandise aimed at young girls. The decision is important because Disney has been hoping Disney Fairies, introduced last year, can replicate some of the success the company has enjoyed with its lucrative Disney Princesses line of dolls, clothes, videos and other merchandise. But executives from Pixar Animation Studios, who now run Disney animation, decided the plot of Tinker Bell needed some tinkering of its own. As a result, the film, originally scheduled for next fall, is being pushed back until at least 2008, according to Disney animation employees and company executives.

Fairies to capture Princess magic
Fairies to capture Princess magic (http://www.variety.com/article/VR1117959135.html?categoryid=13&cs=1)
Variety - USA
Princesses will be passing the baton to a whole new group of gals: the Disney Fairies, with Tinker Bell as the Fairy-in-Chief. "I think it could be as big as Princesses," says Walt Disney consumer products chief Andy Mooney.
The Mouse has started ramping up its Fairy fare, which is in stores now, and will keep churning ahead of a "Tinker Bell" movie coming in the fall of 2008, direct to video, with Brittany Murphy voicing Tink. One pic a year will follow for at least four years. The movies are all-CGI, with stories in development.
Mooney notes that John Lasseter, chief creative officer at Walt Disney Feature Animation, has taken a keen interest in the sprites. "When you get someone with (Lasseter's) creativity into the mix, you have unlimited possibilities," Mooney says.
Mooney says a soft launch on Disney.com that lets users create their own fairies has been a roaring success. "It's been up 10 days now and we have 45,000 unique fairies created," he says proudly.

A Tale of Two TinkerBells
A Tale of Two TinkerBells (http://www.o-meon.com/pages/news%26features/-2007/n%26f_02-22-07.htm)
O-meon
Sources close to DisneyToon Studios report that animators have been working on what amounts to two separate versions of the film TinkerBell. John Lasseter, the creative head of Disney/Pixar animation, reviewed TinkerBell and ordered up a series of changes to the film’s original storyline. Toon Studio head Sharon Morrill has reportedly ordered up even more changes to the film, most of which undo Lasseter's changes. "For quite some time, when John would return to check on our progress," said a Toon Studios’ artist, "he’d be shown one version of the film - his version. At the same time we also had Sharon’s version in the works."
