I was just going to post a thread about this game in the "Off Topic" section. Its kind of like VMK (http://www.vmk.com) and Toontown (http://toontown.com) but its a promotional game for the POTC Franchise.
You can check it all out HERE (http://disney.go.com/pirates/online/index.html)!
Coming to blast you away out of the water Summer 2007.
(This game is in very interest with me, I will probably be buying a web server and making a fan site. Who ever wants to team up or help me, Drop me a line.)
Chris, Thanks for making a board on this. I was seconds away from sending you a PM about this.

I hope its free..If its something where u have to pay a certain amount every month than I might not get it. It looks really cool, once people on VF start to buy it we could probably like make a guild or something. (If there are gonna be guilds in POTC online)
P.S. whoa its been a while since i was on VF.

Does PoTC Online have its own community boards?
I read that you'll be able to make guilds and sail together on ships as a guild, so I wanna make a guild thread there, stating my guild's interest in the game. Thanks in advance.

It should be around the same price as ToonTown which is $19.99 a month.

Pirates of the Caribbean Online won't be free, just like WoW (World of Warcraft, Ragnorak, City of Heroes, City of Villians, Auto Assault, Lineage II, and Everquest 2.) I think.
But, World of Warcraft is the still one of the best MMORPGs. It will beat the crap out of POTC online, no kidding. Cause my big brother plays it.

Pirates of the Caribbean online to debut this spring
Disney creates online world for virtual pirates (http://www.smh.com.au/news/Technology/Disney-creates-online-world-for-virtual-pirates/2007/01/09/1168104975861.html)
The Sydney Morning Herald - Austrailia (source AFP)
Walt Disney Corporation has created an online world in which people can be virtual swashbucklers in the spirit of iconic movie company's blockbuster Pirates of the Caribbean franchise. A massively multiplayer online role-playing game with a pirate theme befitting the film's beloved Captain Jack Sparrow will be online by the spring, Disney revealed at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
People will be able to find the gateway to the game at the revamped Disney.com then create animated "avatar" characters to "crew-up and live the life of a pirate," Disney executives said. People will be able to play the game "free for as long as they want," according to Disney.
"We plan to build more virtual worlds like Pirates based on more of our properties," Disney chief executive Robert Iger said at a celebrity-studded press conference. "You can imagine living in Buzz and Woody's Toy universe, or fighting in the magical world of Narnia, or sharing the powers of The Incredibles," he continued, referring to several Disney-owned hit movies.

^It should and the new disney.com was supposed to be out a few days before the end of the month. Hmm lets see its the end of the month and it still isn't open. This doesn't surprise me.
Well, here it is, Feb. 4th and still no new Disney.com
Now they're saying 'Coming Spring 2007' at www.piratesonline.com (http://www.piratesonline.com)
John Frost at The Disney Blog (http://www.thedisneyblog.com/tdb/2007/02/disney_releases.html) says:Disney Online has released the pricing structure and other details for Pirates Of The Caribbean Online, a new massive multi-player online role playing game (MMORG). There will be an ad supported free level and a $9.95/mth Unlimited Access level. The game is scheduled to go live this spring.

Does that mean the new disney.com isn't come out till then too? I don't think so. In fact, I think they tried to put up the new Disney.com a couple of days ago. I went there in the dead of night and there were just a series of links and no graphics. One of the links was to a "lite version" which didn't work either. So there are "technical difficulties" delaying the launch.
Forgive the double post, but the new Disney.com (http://www.disney.com) is up now. But Pirates Online (http://www.piratesonline.com) still says "Coming Spring 2007"

Pirates Online to launch in May
Disney in uncharted waters with Pirates game (http://today.reuters.com/news/articlenews.aspx?type=technologyNews&storyid=2007-02-05T141250Z_01_N04260306_RTRUKOC_0_US-MEDIA-PIRATES.xml)

Disney Online will offer the legions of fans who have flocked to see Captain Jack Sparrow in movie theaters a chance to star in an original video game adventure for free with Pirates of the Caribbean Online.
The massively multiplayer online game, slated to launch in the spring in conjunction with the May 25 theatrical release of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, will bypass retail and be available via a free download at www.PiratesOnline.com.
The game takes place in an alternate universe, with a new story arc that introduces Jolly Roger as a nemesis. Players must help Sparrow get his crew back together to find the Black Pearl and restore order. The story line will span hundreds of hours of gameplay, and Disney Online will launch free expansions for the game every two to three months.
Disney Online is selling advertising for this version of the game. There will be no ads or product placement within the game world.
Disney Online will offer consumers two ways to play the game, both of which will include a free electronic download (there will be no retail PC box version of the game at launch). Gamers can choose to play the free version of the game, which will incorporate about one-third of the game world and content. Gamers who want to upgrade to the full Pirates Online experience will be charged a $9.95 monthly subscription, which offers such extras as more customization options and characters and the ability to take part in tournaments and engage in player-to-player combat.
All the actors from the film, including Johnny Depp, Orlando Bloom and Keira Knightley, have granted Disney Online the use of their likenesses. The game will use voice-alikes for the original dialogue.
The unique aspect of the online world is that after players design their own playable avatar, such film characters as Sparrow, Will Turner and Elizabeth Swann will appear in cut scenes with the player's avatar, putting the gamer in the film experience.
Steve Parkis, vp premium content at Disney Online, said Disney regards this MMO game as the backbone of the franchise, because the game will expand and evolve for years, well beyond the release of the films and DVDs.
Although there are more than 100 MMO games in the global marketplace, only one, Blizzard Entertainment's World of Warcraft, has truly crossed over to the mass market, with more than 8 million paying subscribers.

So. . . With the ad-supported play, will we still get to do as much as the paying customers? Probably not I suppose.
Just like TT... you get 1/3 of the world and the features without paying. BAH.
stevo505
02-10-2007, 07:27 PM
Well that's no good...
I jsut read the review, it says you can play for free w/ads... and $10 for none. And the Disney article says different... guess we'll have to wait and see.
