A new rumor has started on the Internet about a ride at DCA called Midway Mania. The ride will be similar to buzz's ride as in you will hit targets. The theme will be a Midway/Toy Story theme meaning Toy Story characters (except Buzz) will be in the ride. The ride will be near CA Screaming.
It sound to me that it is just Buzz's ride with different characters but what do you think.

The more I look at this, the more it reminds me of the concept art that's either up or was up in the exit lobby of the Opera House. I haven't been in there since after MI opened to know if something in there's changed in the past 5 months or so.

Well after reading the thread briefly, it started out as a "I heard this from a CM..." rumor, and then got way off topic. I'd need something more concrete than that before I put much stock in it. But we can always do what they did & chat about the ride concept itself.

Regardless of who trolled who there, all trolling is against VF Guidelines here.
Also, I read that Midway Mania would be replacing Millionaire at MGM! If this does happen, I will NOT be happy. :frown: Millionaire deserves life!

Al Lutz, not a troll, mentioned Midway Mania's concept in great detail today. Here's what was revealed:
Up until now the Placemaking concepts have revolved around simply re-themeing and re-branding existing areas of the Park, such as the plan to turn the contemporary themed entrance area into a time-period specific section themed to the late 1920's and the era when Walt first arrived in California. But there are also plans for the later phases of Placemaking that will add new attractions to the park. When Placemaking makes its way over to Paradise Pier in a few years, and replaces all of that strip mall cheap stucco and bland vinyl signage, they'll also open a new attraction to kick it all off. The current working title for this new ride is "Midway Mania", and it's planned to be a shooting gallery dark ride featuring Pixar characters (who else?).
What's interesting is that they'll be carving the entrance to this attraction out of the current location of the defunct Maliburitos restaurant (shown above). Maliburitos was closed in late August, 2001 after DCA's first disastrous summer. The Foods department refused to give up the space however, and they've been using it as storage as well as cannibalizing the kitchen for appliances and parts for other DCA kitchens over the years. But now, five years after DCA opened, they realize they still have too many restaurants than they know what to do with and they are willing to give up the location for good.
There were several key people in WDI who tried to ring the alarm bell in the late '90s that DCA was being overbuilt on the stores and restaurants, and underbuilt on the attractions, but they were pooh-poohed by the senior leadership of the time. Some of the most notable casualties in this huge error were Hollywood & Dine and Soap Opera Bistro. But five years later they still have to swallow some pride and turn restaurants into attractions. But at least now they have recognized the huge errors initially made with this park.
With the restaurant gutted and turned into the attraction entrance, the attraction ride track itself will be winding around through the support structure for California Screamin' behind the restaurant. Chalk up the popularity of the Monsters Inc. ride as another reason this Paradise Pier dark ride was recently given the green light, as it seems that little dark ride in the corner of Hollywood has had more impact on DCA than some of the recent bigger budget additions like Tower of Terror or the Block Party show.
I was really surprised at Maliburritos being the proposed entrance. Sounds like this is just the kind of thing that Paradise Pier could use. And, if memory serves, this will be the first time an attraction is included in any theme park's midway area. This could seriously boost the revenue brought in by the games there, as well as do all the wonderful things having a desired attraction at the back of the park does. Sounds interesting.

Well there goes any hopes I had of them totally retheming Paradise Pier into something that's actually interesting. I'm glad they're building a dark ride in that area though. If we are stuck with Paradise Pier, at least it will have a themed attraction.
I'm not sure if this idea will fly though. If they want people to go to DCA in addition to DL, wouldn't they try to build an attraction that you can't find at Disneyland? I don't think someone would choose to go to DCA if they already have a similar attraction idea (Buzz) at Disneyland.

I don't think the idea is to go to DCA instead of Disneyland, but to include both parks in your vacation. The multi-park idea it seems to me is to spend as much time possible going to both. So the more stuff that entices you to go to both, the better. Both parks have roller coasters too, but you'd want to go to both parks to ride all coasters offered. Right now with Disneyland pulling 2-3x the daily attendance DCA does, it's a pretty good bet that many many people just focus on Disneyland & scoff at DCA next door.

Oh I agree. I'm sure they want to attract people to both parks. But the idea of a Pixar-themed shooting dark ride seems awfully specific to me, for it to be included in both parks. If they want to attract people to DCA as well as Disneyland, wouldn't having two rides like that just cancel each other out?

From the lastest rumors that I have heard form different websites this ride should be opening in 2008 or yearly 2009.
