Does anyone have any idea what the next (this year, 2006)'s Christmass special for the Haunted Mansion is? Is there even a Christmass special for Haunted Mansion this year? Or is it the same 'Nightmare Before Christmas' theme?
Thanks :)

There's been a lot of rumours about last year being the last time they did it but nothing has been confirmed yet. I would imagine that as we get closer to the end of the year something will be announced. I hope it comes back!

Yawn
Nightmare Before Christmas was fun but now its just HO HUM.
My friend Deb & I are planning on going later this year but we'd rather see the old Haunted Mansion with the trendy new bits than yawn through another ultra-violet-snow covered-cash in for another year.

What again! Looks like they are going to remove it again and add the overlay. Another hard work. After when it is over, a 1 week refurb to make sure the installments were working correctly.

Anyway, I hope they make it different this time. Not that they haven't been. I just hope it is really different.

Haunted Mansion > Haunted Mansion Holiday.
While Burton's Nightmare Before Christmas is cool and all, I think it's gotten too mainstream to be anything special, now.
Quite honestly, I couldn't care less if the HMH came back or not. I was thoroughly unimpressed with it.
Anyway, to my point: When my wife and I were there at the end of January, a cast member working in Le Bat en Rouge said that the store was closing and the HMH would not be appearing again.
Now, Matt, I know you said a website states the downtime is scheduled at about the right time, I don't take anything as official until Disney says it.

You know CM just make up these rumours, just to see how far they'll spread. They really aren't in the loop about any information. The only ones who really know are Imagineers.

My friend Deb's in the Loop.
Not necessarily with Disney Imagineers, but she has lots of friends.
Making up rumours is fun.
Like how they said Haunted Mansion Holiday was sposed to be in
Florida in 2004!
Yeh, it so heaps wasn't.
Ah well.

While you guys may be sick and tired of it, I for one hope it comes back in 2006.
Why would I want this you ask? Because my family and I have never seen it.
Fortunately Disney doesn't constantly change just to cater to those who visit frequently. While you may not want it to return, think about the thousands of others visiting that will be happy to see it for the first time!

I live in Colorado. I've been lucky enough to go to Disneyland twice since I moved here in 1993. The first time I went at the end of September 2004, HM was down for the overlay. When I went back for the second time in February 2006, HM was down to remove the overlay. It's frustrating to miss a classic ride because they want to overlay an overdone movie.

I just dont want to go this year and miss the new additions.
Since they close the normal one before Halloween & then not re-open it till February, it sorta
takes a chunk out of Australian holiday times....since January is really the only holiday time
that i can bring my daughter Sally-Anne.
I've seen it twice, I have no reason to see it again.
Sure its fun.
But so is eating an icecream with good friends on a hot summers day.
But you couldnt do it everyday, or you'd get sick.

No, the reason I don't like HMH is because they've taken a decent movie and made it commercial to the point of obnoxiousness. When I rode HMH during my stay in 2004, both my wife and I walked away totally unimpressed: they took the classic elements and replaced them with stuff that, quite frankly, doesn't belong in the Haunted Mansion.
The Haunted Mansion is supposed to be "terrifying," but they do the HMH overlay, and it is comical. There is nothing remotely "terrifying" about it. In fact, it reminds me of Killer Klowns from Outerspace, not Disney.
Do I need to continue?

The only solution regarding the Haunted Mansion is to go to Disneyland between April and September in 2006 in order to ride the original version. That's the strategy to follow.

That is a good plan, but with my wife's work schedule and my work flow, that doesn't work. The best option is for them to not do the overlay when I want to visit Disneyland. :icon_lol:

Not everyone can just pop on over to Disneyland at the earliest convenience to view a tired old overlay thats Ho Hum!
No wonder Tim Burtons so huffy lately.
My friend Deb & I saw him at the Corpse Bride premiere & he said
" there's a huff waiting for me out the front, and i'm leaving in it!"
and he did.

Let's see: April, May, June, July, August, September. I count about 5 and a half months. Nope, not able to visit Disneyland during 5 and a half months because it's popping in at Disneyland at the earliest convienience! *end sarcasm* I'm really sorry, but that just seems a bit, I don't know, odd to me. But maybe it is odd for someone such as myself living so close to the park . *shrugs*

HMHfan4evah - yes not everyone lives close to the park like you do. I live in Australia and Aaron is listed as living in Australia so yes there are 5 months that the mansion is in normal mode but when planning a trip over there Australians have to consider school holidays, getting time off work, having the money to get there, getting flights & accomodation etc etc. I think that's what Aaron's point was.

When I lived in So Cal (before the HMH was started), I could go whenever I wanted. I moved away to go to college, I got married, and then I got a job. I cannot just hop on a plane and go. My wife and I have pretty demanding jobs that are fairly restrictive on when we can go on vacation. Therefore, the times we can go are generally between September and March.
Now, my other big beef with HMH is that they take the classic down to do the overlay during March. So, Halloween, the holiday most befitting of the classic HM, has the HMH. It doesn't make a lot of sense from a marketing standpoint.
Anyway, everyone is entitled to his or her opinion. I just feel that the HMH isn't as good as the classic HM.
sambadude
03-27-2006, 06:34 PM
I think the major reason for having HM in HMH mode during Halloween is because Nightmare Before Christmas is set in Halloween town and Jack is the king of Halloween blah blah blah. But I do agree that it would be great to ride the classic HM on Halloween!

That and you're 14.
When you have a family, need to pay for things like cars, houses, feeding the kids in the houses then planning trips to countries that are 14 hours away & $10,000 for a family of four to go there, then you can be sarcastic.
Yes, because you live in the country that has TWO DISNEYLAND PARKS, it is easier for you to get there at the closest convenience.
Sorry I'm just over the Nightmare Before Christmas overlay.
I've seen it twice. That enoughs.

Well...isn't everyone going to Disneyland at their earliest convenience? Someone's earliest convenience living in Anaheim is certainly going to be different than someone living in Australia's. I know my earliest convenience to travel to Australia is somewhere around 2015.

Actually, I've never been on HMH.
I'm going this year during winter, but for some reason, I'm just not that excited, and in fact, I actually want the regular Haunted Mansion to take over this year. Here's why:
1. I want to see the new effects that will be added this year
2. I want to experience the new plot
3. It's a classic and I like the scarier feel of the original HM
4. Haunted Mansion Holiday hasn't really changed much
5. HMH doesn't have any of the cool effects the original HM has
I'm not saying I don't like HMH, I mean who knows, I might love it! I'm just saying that HM has cooler effects, a cool plot, and is way scarier (classic too).

I saw it for the first time in 2005 and would love to see it a few more times. My sister had seen it the year before and said they seem to improve parts of it each year. She was hopeful that eventually all the black light neon would be gone and more sculpture integrated. However, (since we are in the Rumor Mill) the rumor I heard was that Tim Burton was upset with Disney (perhaps merchandising Corpse Bride stuff?) and was not going to release to the HMH again for 2006. Can anyone clarify that rumor?

111702, you say you haven't gone to HMH yet you still say it doesn't have any of the effects of the original. Everyone's opinion is different, and actually I hope it will return this year. It is a nice change and very well done with scenery and effects. Although yes it is not the classic, but I think it has proved to be worthy and earned its spot to return. Every year the lines aren't just a little full, but go out almost near the New Orleans Train Station. It isn't sheer coincidence.

Lining up for all the big noises & shiny things is the reason.
Lining up is fun though. I remember sending photos of my cat to people
via BlueTooth and seeing their reactions. That kept me very entertained whilst in line.
The classic with all the trendy new unclassic additions sounds like lots of fun.

I think tho that every year there is something differen't in HMH. Like in the ball room the wreath thing was new. And the one before last years HMH had oggie boogie on the table instead of the wreath thing. I do enjoy HMH because for us people who aren't lucky enough to have AP's, its a nice thing.

i've heard due to the pirates celebration going on, there will be no hmh celebration, but the overlay will still happen.
i'm happy, cause me and my husband will be going around halloween to see this for the first time. i've seen pictures of it, and it looks cool...
I wonder if they will have to make some adjustments for the holiday version just like they did last year. Last year The changing portraits were put in synch with the lightning in the regular Mansion and they had to bring the fading effect back for HMH. Same thing With Madame Leota they made her ball float for the regular show and put her back on the table for the holiday version. Do you think because of the changes to the Attic scene this year they might alter the HMH version to accomidate it?:icon_roll

I'll be seeing the Haunted Mansion Holiday Nightmare in Japan this year.
It'll be fun seeing Sally on the Piano with Evil Teddy.
I might pop over the California in March 07 to see new Pirates & the
crazy Bride in the Mansion.
As for Haunted Mansion Holiday, well ive seen the New Orleans version twice I don't really want to see it again.
At least Japan will have the novelty of the language barrier.

Hmm well i know tim burton has been wanting to pull out of disney for a little bit, so this may not happen because he is calling th shots. I acutaly think that every year the haunted mansion gets a little better every year. I agree that it isn't very impressive, but it is a nice change from the same ol same ol. So who knows. Every year they do have something differen't in 2004 they had oggie boogie on the table in the ball room. This year it was the crazy reath thing, that thing was pretty cool.

I am a fan of the Haunted Mansion in its originality with the whole 999 ghost. I personally dont' like The Nightmare Before Christmas; the song is kind of anoying with the 'la la la la la'. I just don't like it. I think something new might be, it is after all Halloweedn and the 'holiday' mansion does not scare at all! I know it has to be checked for the little kids but I think they just grow confused with the whole Christmas in October!
