Staff changes as a result of Disney's aquisition of Pixar: The merger of these two major entertainment companies means a major re-shuffling of the executive deck at the Mouse House. New items about the changes can be posted here.

Pixar President Ed Catmull will serve as President of the new animation studios. Pixar Executive Vice President John Lasseter will be Chief Creative Officer of the animation studios, as well as Principal Creative Advisor at Walt Disney Imagineering. Disney said Lasseter, who earlier in his career left Disney for Pixar, will "provide his expertise in the design of new attractions for Disney theme parks around the world." He will also report directly to Disney CEO Bob Iger.

Marty Sklar, a 50-year veteran at Disney, stepped down as vice chairman and principal creative exec for Walt Disney Imagineering.

Sklar has been saying he'd retire for years. It's always been right after this next project is completed... Now that John Lasseter has been named principal creative advisor, Sklar's job has become redundant. The only difference between Sklar's job and Lasseter's is that Sklar reported to chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts Jay Rasulo, whereas Lasseter will report directly to Bob Iger.

This is good news. Sort of like when Walt Disney sent artist and story man Marc Davis from animation to go look at Disneyland and make suggestions. Creative new blood is always a good thing.

Marty Sklar is still not retiring though. He's being given talent recruitment duties under the title of Imagineering Ambassador. :icon_roll
