Sounds like an excellent idea for our friends down under.

i asked my dad about this and he said that there aren't enough people in australia for that...but i think it would be cool

however, i'd like to see a park like Disney Sea, but totally different. Water is huge in Australia obviously and a Disney theme park should reflect that. The castle of the park could be Ariel and Eric's castle, and there could be a land featuring Finding Nemo (he is from Australia) and other underwater things like that.

I really think it should be like a marine world or Sea World, but more Disney-theme parkish, you know? Have marine animals but also rides like Animal Kingdom is.

I think they should. It's an English speaking country/continent making it possible to copy the original soundtrack recordings. I mean, I'd like to see statistics on the population of California in 1955. Unlike now, California wasn't exactly sloppin' over with people back then, yet Disneyland obviously succeeded. Also, are there any other Disney parks in the southern hemisphere? All the ones that I am aware of are in the northern hemisphere.

I've always said if there is another Disney park built, it should be in Australia. Aussies rock.

^^you do know that Disneyland's whatever no. guest is a sham right? lol

Australia would be a cool place to have a park cuz it's nice and warm there. But how many people visit there? j/w.

There are plenty of tourists to support a park (millions each year), local numbers should not matter as long as it draws a decent crowd.

A local park would fill a gap in the theme market especially if built in Sydney since the only theme park closed about a year ago.

I would even be happy with a DisneyQuest as long as they go all-out & theme it as heavily as possible!!

The Jungle Cruise could be done with a Crocodile Dundee theme!

i agree on the sydney part, we had Wonderland then that closed, so now we only have the smallest theme park (Luna Park) and thats crap.
But i thinks we really need a disneyland.

I just thought i'd add a thread to get feedback/criticism whichever from people with their thoughts on why this isn't/why there should be
a Disneyland in the Southern Hemisphere...namely Australia....

Even if it is Hong Kong Disneyland size, as long as it had some sort of Colonial Style Haunted Mansion, Pirates, possibly a Matterhorn or even Mount Everest people would enjoy that.

Thats about all.

I certainly wouldn't mind having a Disney resort in another English-speaking country. I've always wanted to go there and that would make me want to go even more. Whether that's actually something that would bring them a good enough amount of money to justify doing it, is another story.

Well, once you've been to a Disney Park, you can never go anywhere else without being disappointed.

You see Queensland Australia has two parks up here called Dreamworld & Movie World. And theyre disgustingly offensive. Theyre like those Japanese rip off parks that are near Disneyland but just arent Disneyland.

So we need a Disneyland here so people down here know what a good park is and how impressive they really are.

oh my god how good would that be. The parks here in Oz are nothing compared to disneyland.
Talk about a dream come true!

I think it would be great but dont shun our theme parks too much, they may not be Disney-quality but they are still much fun :). I cant wait to go to DLR at the end of this year!! yahoo

Sorry yeh I don't mean to bag them out too much...
But once you've gone Disney you'll never look at our parks the same again.
When you get back Danieru_X you'll wonder how you could have found Dreamworld any way entertaining.

I hate to say it but it's true, our parks do suck compared to Disney.

Not to blame the government....

But NSW's ( the state of New South Wales...) budget doesnt allow themeparks to be built anymore.
Its budget for anything to be allowed to go forward ended the year we won the Sydney Olympics.

Luna Park is being demanded to be closed but they keep fighting back, true story, the NSW government want it demolished to build housing, which is where majority of our budget goes sadly to say.

Enough blaming the Government, lets now blame the Weather.

Climate-wise, Queensland is prefferable as its compared to Anaheim as having 95%-ish sunny days. And the coldest it would get would be around 21 degrees.

NSW on the otherhand, especially in Penrith where the Wonderland used to be, gets to around 40-45 degrees on stupidly hot days, all of NSW does actually so it'd not only be uncomfortable for guests but might just burst into flames...or it may not...but it would be hot.

Now, Queensland.

Queensland tourism know how much money come from their Themeparks and are happy to oblige. NSW on the other hand isn't...anymore.
Queensland would bash every other state out of the way for the rights to Disneyland, and they know it would generate jobs, cash flow and exposure.

We can all move up there when it opens.

I know this may sound stupid, but what does NSW stand for?

danieru_x
02-10-2006, 07:26 PM
NSW - New south wales, its a state of australia. Learn your geography!! lol jks
Say DLA (disneyland Australia lol) did come to Queensland i dont think the other parks would like it because there is already enough fighting between dreamworld vs. movieworld + seaworld + wet'n'wild. If DLA decided to come and land in the swamps of the gold coast, there would be alot of debate. I say build it in either melbourne or sydney outskirts. Governments do change keep in mind. Going to dreamworld soon, so i can enjoy it once more before i get high standards about theme parks lol.

AaronVenn
02-10-2006, 08:30 PM
Knowing Disney, as they are shrewd businesspeople, I'd say they'd buy out Dreamworld and the Movieworld group.

Not that they don't like competition, its just competition goes down around them.

Universal Studios in LA is a prime example. Its so crap its offensive.
Sure, they tried, but its just nothing compared to every other Disney park the world over.

That'll happen with Dreamworld/Movieworld. People will go to Disneyland Australia, notice how uninspired Dreamworld/Movieworld is and
thank goodness there's finally a Disneyland in their hemisphere.

I'm all for big company buy-outs and would welcome Disney buying those Queensland parks and either fixing them or destroying them, either way at least we'd have a Disneyland.

Movie world is trying to improve- Superman. But the shows are half rate compared to DisneyResort shows.
Bring it on put it in the old Wonderland site. There is nothing out there yet so put that land to a good purpose. Now right near the motorway interchange perfect!!

I'm from Australia. I don't think they'll have a Disneyland in Australia for a while because the population is too little.

I really want to migrate to USA.

But they've built one in Hong Kong and they have a population of 6 million, Australia has 20 million. I know we're a lot more spread out and such but I wouldn't think population could be a determining factor. Australia also has millions of tourists every year.

Id love to see a disney in OZ. I dont see it happening anytime soon. What i dont get is that it looks like shanghi will be getting the next park. Why they need another so close to hong kong which is already being complained about for not being big enough is beyond me.

Bring us one. We are a major tourist country. Sydney seems like the smarter choice as its better suited for larger amounts of incoming people. The Gold Coast if a more obvious choice being that its a tourist strip and has better weather plus our government likes to spend money on tourism like crazy. We also build alot of crap too that we dont need.....Hello worlds tallest residential tower, hello new football stadium for the gold coast when you already have one not being used, hello major shopping mall every suburb. lol

I dunno. I dont see it happening in the near or distant future.

Well Wonderland Sydney closed down...as well as 'popular' places from where I live.

And I personally am disappointed with Hong Kong Disneyland...since it is a lot similar to the original Disneyland...which makes it hard to tell the difference ESPECIALLY THE SLEEPING BEAUTY CASTLE. now when I see it I can't tell if it is Hong Kong's or the Original's.

The sad thing is though guys even though ive planned that big massive Disneyland, the fact of the matter is we'll end up with a "Hong Kong-ish" Park when we get ours because they
"Phase" their parks now after the Disneyland Paris dilhemma.

You see, they blew millions on having every ride ready for Paris and when it opened like 2 people went and they've been in debt for the past 10 years...well the company who built it anyway not necessarily Disney.

So we'd end up with a bog standard Disneyland with a castle, some fantasyland rides, a train, hopefully a Haunted Mansion and thats about it. They'd build at least one Hotel also for the tourists to stay in.

Then, after a year or two, they'll add stuff and go from there to see how well it does.

But at least we'd have a park. And thats where id be happy. We could then at least say "Yeh, we've got a Disneyland now" even if it does take a few years to reach its Anaheim glory.

Cos afterall, Disneyland has been around for 50 years...

Lion711
02-14-2006, 08:28 PM
you 100% correct.

The fact is Disney are now in the buisness of building minni Disneylands with only future expansion after years of good perfomance.

Still its better than nothing and even hong kong style park would be better than anything in Australia. By the way i doubt they will excatly follow the hong kong park style again because of how much critisism they got about the park.

I say bring it on.

Just came across this on the hong kong disney resort wikipedia page

This is the first project of The Walt Disney Company's extension into Asia (despite the Tokyo Disney Resort having opened more than 20 years ago). Animation studios have been set up in India, Disney has been extensively advertising and publicising the traditional characters on billboards and Asian-only Disney cartoon shows, and plans are being drawn up for a second Chinese resort in the mainland, probably in Shanghai. Scouts are also reportedly surveying Australia for a new resort
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hong_Kong_Disneyland_Resort

Interesting i think.

Re: that post earlier about peoples comment about where the Disney park will go...

I like those Melbourne people pleading for something to be built there.
But it won't.
If people wanted to spend days in overcast drizzle, soaked in freezing rain & wallowing in fog while they walk around a Disney park then sure Melbourne is a great idea.
And why not London then on that logic?
Sydney won't get it either I'm sorry to say.
Disney won't be too happy with dealing with whinging povs dealing out compensation suits from the Heat Exhaustion of trapsing around Penrith.
It will be in Queensland.
Trust me.
It's the Resort State.
For an Australian resort that will make money forever tourists want water views, beaches, sun & the occaisonal Koala photo.
Not foggy, raining Melbourne or desert West Sydney.

Maybe they could have a water park called, "Nemo's E.A.C. Adventures." If I had to choose a place in Australia for a Disney park, I'd want Sydney.

emma15677

While Australia has 20 million people, little do people realise is when I say that Australia's population is not big enough for Disneyland, I say that because the population is spread out amongst the country, with only several main cities all in different states.

Disneyland Australia can only be in one location, which I guess would be Sydney, though it only has 4 million people which I don't think is large enough to keep Disneyland running, because there isn't as much Disney stuff in Australia as there is in the USA.

I'd say I'd be one of the selecvted people to constantly be going there, with a yearly pass and everything.

sambadude
01-17-2007, 09:09 PM
It's not so much the population of the city, it's how many tourists actually visit the city during the year and in terms of that Sydney is a great candidate! Hundreds of thousands, if not millions, visit this city, especially in peak periods like summer. The problem is finding a location here that isn't out in the sticks!

Seems much logic into this calculation... (#39)

If Disney has to decide whether or not building a park... This attendence potential is the MAIN thing...
You want REAL numbers?
Paris has some 280 million people base market to live on.... (keep in mind, that GENERAL attendence of attraction parks is MUCH lower in Europe then it is in USA, Europeans are not even 1/5 so interested in attraction parks as Americans are...).
OK, Disneyland Paris gets 13 million yearly visits on that base market.
But then, suppose a 20 million people base market in Australia would go on same attendence % as Europe, then this would give 930.000 visitors per year for Disneyland Australia.....
So, NOOOOOOOO, the project is ALLREADY burried .......... Stop dreaming.
(Bookkeepers logic, you cannot go around that)

By the way: HK Disney is not based on 6 million HK people. Its based on all Canton province and more parts of southern China... And then... start counting the millions, please... (Future vision, because Disney was wrong AGAIN in supposing Chinese would go mad about American stuff... NOT ! ...)

TOPIC CLOSED !!! LOL (virtually, of course)

I am from Melbourne, Australia. I visited Disneyland in Cali earlier this year and i believe that we have the potential to run a park like that it would also be very popular. Australia and NZ may only have 26million people combined but Disneyland would be a success. we already have a Warner brothers movie world and a Sea world on the gold coast that rolls in a vast amount of income every year and are hugely popular all over the country. Disneyland would just be a hit because:
1: It is said to be built in Avalon Victoria just over the road from an airport, therefore it is easy to get to (if flown to), but Sydney gets more tourists so it would be smarter to build one there. (Queensland already has it theme parks and we do not to put them out of business. So don't put it there!).
2: Movie world is popular so Disneyland would be an absolute hit.
3: It would be the first in the southern hemisphere.
4: it like all the other Disney lands around the world would be unique. (If we did something similar to "California Adventure" except with an Aussie theme, next to it).
It is just an idea that will work (i think) for those reasons. their wont be a time were no one is walking through the gates. If Hong Kong can do it we can.
